4.0 out of 5 stars Star Wars not for kids, with no prequel influence? Yes please., 9 Feb. 2012
This was a story I read as a teenager, I haven't bought the collected edition but recently reread the individual books.

Unlike the prequel movies they are clearly not aimed at children, I think they were for people who had enjoyed the original trilogy when they were young, but had grown up a bit. I'm pretty sure that the original novels (along with the first X-Wing game on PC) led the resurgence of popularity that Star Wars experienced in the mid 90's.

It's a great story line with politics, espionage and action, as well as a brilliant villain in Grand Admiral Thrawn. It only really suffers when you compare it to the continuity of the prequels and current TV show, both of which directly contradict it on a number of issues.

4.0 out of 5 stars Definitely better than one star!, 23 Oct. 2010
I really liked this book and thought it needed defending. Yes, it is a bit (Ok, very) cheesy in places but this is just how comics were written in the 70's. Get past this and it's an enjoyable read. The black and white artwork, on the other hand, has aged very well. It looks great and this alone elevates it above the one star mark.

Plus, Johnathon Ross liked it enough to write the intro; which makes at least two to one in favor...
