Love these new Rock School Bass and Guitar books - the original series failed to live up to it's potential, this new series is outstanding and I use these books almost daily in my private teaching...

I really like this capo !

I've used loads of different capos over the past 49 years of guitar playing and this is the slickest...

If it lasts years I would regard this as the most practical (and reasonably priced) unit available...

Resistance: The Essence of the Islamist Revolution

5.0 out of 5 stars A disturbing critique of who we are..., 7 Mar. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is one of the most thought provoking books I've read in a long while...

It is both a scholarly and meticulously researched explanation of the emergence of 'Islamism' AND and a very damning critique of The West's relationship with the rest of the planet and it's historical and philosophical roots...

If I was being critical I feel that Alastair Crooke has a tendency throughout the book to contrast the often sordid realpolitik machinations of The West with the theoretical ideals of (in particular) Shia Islam...

His views are not particularly 'clubbable', indeed The Spectator’s Melanie Phillips maintains that Crooke is guilty of ‘appeasement of Hamas' genocidal terror’.

But then Melanie Phillips is symptomatic of a refusal Crooke identifies to engage honestly with Islam's genuine disagreement with our culture's values and behaviour.

This is essential reading for anyone who wants to gain an insight into 'the essence of the Islamist revolution' and it is also a disturbing critique of who we are...

5.0 out of 5 stars An outstanding watch at ANY price..., 5 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is my third Seiko divers watch and my second kinetic.

I was originally contemplating replacing my old Rolex GMT Master (which I sold due to being very broke!) with a current Rolex. When I had a look at the prices I decided that spending £ 5,500.00 on a watch was a mug's game.

The Seiko Divers Kinetic cost just over £ 160.00 and is equal to the Rolex in build quality, styling, solidity of the strap etc. In terms of accuracy however the Seiko is far more accurate than my Rolex GMT Master was.

I set the Seiko against the (very accurate) online clock and 5 days later it is still accurate to the SECOND. My Rolex would have lost a couple of seconds in that time.

I appreciate that the Rolex has an amazing hand built movement (which represents a pinnacle of that form of watch making technology), but the kinetic movement costs around 2 % of that and does the job that much better.

Then there are the Rolex servicing costs currently £ 300 - 500.00 every two years.

I will keep the Seiko for as long as it remains 100% and then replace it with a new one in 5 - 10 years...

5.0 out of 5 stars An outstanding album..., 15 Feb. 2013

Nu jazz guitarist Lee Jones and I were discussing this album yesterday during a session...

When I first played this CD I was shocked by the apparent lack of production. It has since become one of my fave 'go to' CDs. There is a wonderful human warmth to this music and Sco's relaxed, languid phrasing really gets to you once you make the adjustment to the rather austere soundscape on offer.

On the more straight ahead jazz tracks Sco and bassist Steve Swallow have completely reinvented the classic 60's jazz guitar trio sonic paradigm. The inventive, quirky brass and woodwind (arranged by Sco himself) ensemble work featured on several tracks further add to this sense of genre reinvention.

This album works for me in the same way that Nurat Fatah Ali Khan's 'Shahen Shah' album works. A simple beguiling proposition - put a group of supremely talented musicians into a sonically beautiful space, let them make real organic music in real time and record the results with consummate engineering and production skill...

An outstanding album and as important as Miles' 'Bitches Brew' and Mahavishnu Orchestra's 'Inner Mounting Flame' IMHO : )

5.0 out of 5 stars Strong Second Series of Justified, 10 Jan. 2012

This review is from: Justified - Season 2 [DVD] (DVD)
Once again the unique 'Justified' combination of slick gunplay, sexual tension (twix our hero and his ex - or is she ?), tattoo laden hillbilly gothic and tight tense story lines, hits the top cop drama spot...

Massive kudos to Margo Martindale who plays the Mags Bennett character for which she won an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series - a bravura performance.

Nice twist at the end of the final episode too !

I await series three with anticipation...

5.0 out of 5 stars Mens Wolverine Apperentice Tan Brown Leather Boot, 18 Jun. 2011
Always wanted to get hold of some Redwing boots, but in UK they are very expensive...

Came across Wolverine as an alternative and I must say I'm now a fan ! These boots are very well made, from good quality materials.

I shall be buying a further two pairs later in the year (in different colours) : )

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD from a 20th Century Icon..., 21 Mar. 2011

Coming from an era and a world I never directly experienced, Miles is one of those guys who seems very much larger than life to me...

I always loved his playing and his ability to stay in the forefront of whatever the hell was happening in jazz and fusion from the mid-forties to the very early nineties (albeit with periods of being AWOL due to personal issues).

This album was released in 1986 and is a great fusion of the jazz funk of Marcos Miller and George Duke and that totally distinctive Miles trumpet sound...
