One of my favourite movies and I was looking forward to a new remaster with lossless audio. I found the picture very soft and fuzzy at times, the audio is a great upgrade.

Good transfer, adequate 3d. This was a post production conversion but a decent one. Ok depth and decent clarity. Not a reference disc for 3d but not too bad.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great transfer, 18 Nov 2013

This blu-ray looks and sounds amazing. Good extras, though I am sick of House of hammer episodes being used as an extra. Seen them all too many times already! It comes with two aspect ratios to view the movie in, watched both and I do prefer the theatrical aspect of 166:1

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Blu-Ray Transfer, 26 Jun 2012

This is another superb Hammer Blu-Ray from Studio Canal. The colours are vibrant and lush, the image is crisp and clear and the audio is excellent. The movie itself is one of Hammers best efforts from the 60's. The plot is silly and fun, Voodoo in Cornwall! but helped immensely by the great looking, though brutally cheap, production values and the better than average acting. This makes for a great double bill with the simultaneously released Blu-Ray of The Reptile, a movie that was filmed using the same sets and some of the same actors, or with the movie it was originally released with as the B feature paired with Dracula, Prince of Darkness, a controversial Blu-Ray release from earlier this year (though I personally found it to be a great transfer and a vast vast improvement over any of the dvd versions). The extras are good, especially the interviews with surviving cast and devotees. I would give the movie a 3.5 to 4 star rating, but the Blu-Ray transfer rates a big 5.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Transfer of a Hammer Classic, 10 May 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have been waiting a long time for the Hammer library to come to Blu-Ray, and to just watch this movie I went out and bought a region free Blu-Ray player, and this one blu-ray made it worth the trouble. This is an incredible transfer, the movie has never looked better. The detail is very sharp, the colour is rich and bright colours pop beautifully. The audio is just as impressive as the video, this looked and sounded as I imagined it did on opening night. The movie itself is one of Hammer's very best, a smart, sharp script, with excellent performances, Its a shame Hammer didn't give Barbra Shelly more roles like this, she nails the part and proves she was more than just a Hammer sexpot. Andrew Keir is the best Quartermass so far, showing us the fallible human being as well as brilliant scientist. The extras are ok, nothing we haven't seen before on the Anchor Bay dvds, but still fun. I also have the Dracula Prince of Darkness Bly-ray as well, and except for the audio syncing problem, it is almost as impressive as this. Here is hoping the rest of the Hammer movies from Canal will be just as good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than expected transfers, 21 Nov 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a great box set for Nightmare fans, all 7 of the original movies in HD with lossless audio. The movies are split over four Blu-Rays and there is also a bonus dvd disc. I live in Canada and the dvd is in PAL format so I am unable to watch it. The Blu-Rays are region free and played perfectly. The first movie is on its own disc and also the only movie in 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, the rest are 5.1DTS-HD Master Audi. They all sound a lot better than I expected. The video transfer are a little more hit and miss, but all are a vast improvement over the dvd versions. Each movie has a decent amount of extras, some good some bad. The movies go from excellent (Part 1) , pretty good (3 and 7) ok (part 4) ,terrible (parts 5 &6), and then there is Part 2, overly campy and how no-one caught on to all the gay references but still fun in a so-bad-its-good sort of way.the video transfers are all pretty solid, they all look like they should for the time they were made. Great deal and well worth it for fans.
