5.0 out of 5 stars Great bags to make, 10 April 2011
I have to admit when I think of floral bags I conjure up an image of my grandmother's handbags...but I am very glad to say that is not at all what the bags in this book are like. Many of the bags in here I would love to use myself (I'm in my 20's) plus there are many my mum adored too so I would say that it covers a great age range.

The book has patterns for several easy to make bags which are then embellished with floral designs to give them that special look. The book starts off by covering equipment and stitches, and then has a guide to constructing the bags. You will find step by step instructions, photos, diagrams and all the templates you need in this book.

The book is then split into seasons: spring bags, summer bags, autumn bags and winter bags and using beads, sequins, buttons and a variety of stitches these sections guide you through the embellishment of the bags. This is a great book for anyone looking to make bags or learn embroidery & embellishing techniques.

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice selection of projects, 6 April 2011
This book contains 15 small quilt projects, to get you started with quilting, or help you experiment without the commitment of a full size quilt. These projects can be used as wall hangings, throws or lap quilts. The book is split into 3 sections, the first aims to get you out of the quilting rut and trying something new, the second is full of scrap quilt ideas to help use your scraps up and the final section focuses on traditional quilts.

The quilts in the book are stunning, with a great use of vibrant colours to inspire you. Each project has a details supplies list, cutting list and several pages of instructions, diagrams and photos to guide you through the techniques used and steps required to construct the quilt. There is also a general instructions section at the front of the book and templates to the rear.

With contributions by Pam & Nicky Lintott, Maggie Ball and Katherine Guerrier amongst others this is a book quilters will love. However, do bear in mind that this is a compilation of projects from other books so if you already have books by the contributors you may already have these projects.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great source of inspiration, 5 April 2011
This review is from: 400 Art Deco Motifs (Paperback)
This book is a great source for inspiration in textile work, and artwork alike. Whether you are looking for a quilting design, a border for a picture, a motif to incorporate into textile art or something to embroider onto clothing, bags, blankets etc you will find plenty in here.

The designs are all in black and white, so you can add your own colours to them. The motifs are sorted into categories which include flowers and plants, animals, birds and borders and patterns making it easy to find what you are looking for.
The book itself is quite thick and chunky so it would be difficult to photocopy of scan directly from the book. But they have thought of this and kindly included a cd rom at the back of the book with all the designs on. These motif books make a great addition to any sewist's or artist's library.

4.0 out of 5 stars A useful block dictionary, 4 April 2011
This book gives you instructions on how to cut out and make up 130 different small blocks which you can then incorporate into a variety of projects. The first part of the book is dedicated to tools and techniques covering subjects such as piecing, appliqué and quilting. It also gives you a few ideas as to the projects you can incorporate the blocks into.
The remainder of the book is a block dictionary, with the blocks divided into type including stars & pinwheels, Japanese odyssey, log cabin and country classics. You get a photo of each block, a cutting list and instructions on how to make up each block. There are also quilt designs and project ideas scattered throughout.

This book is a great inspiration for people looking to incorporate more patchwork into their designs.

Bunting (Twenty to Make)

5.0 out of 5 stars Full of simple projects, 4 April 2011
This book is part of the 20 To Make Series which are small books with 20 different projects on a common theme. I will admit I never thought there were 20 different types of bunting, but I was definitely proved wrong! Each of these projects are distinctly different from the other, some are seasonal such as Christmas bunting and Valentine's bunting and other use different materials and shapes to create a whole new look.

There is bunting for every occasion, as well as for every room of the house, from the very simple `Almost Instant Bunting' to the more complicated `snow Flake bunting'. Even I, who to be honest have never really seen the appeal of bunting, am very tempted to have a go at some of these projects! The author makes it look very easy with clear instructions and inspiring photos.

5.0 out of 5 stars Anne Boleyn story told from an alternative perspective, 2 April 2011
This book covers the period when King Henry VIII loses interest in Katherine and becomes interested in Anne Boleyn. Unlike most books written about this period this book covers the story from the perspective of Queen Katherin, and that of Cardinal Wolsey too which I found really interesting.

All of the books i've read so far in this Tudor series have been very well written, and this is no exception. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series. I'd highly recommend this book as an alternative viewpoint to the Henry/Katherine/Anne love triangle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to make projects and gorgeous embroidery, 2 April 2011
This book is full of simple to make projects which are customised by stylish embroidery. The book starts off with an introduction to fabrics and threads and is then followed by a very useful stitch guide. The stitch guide has a photo to show you how the stitch looks when incorporated into a design, and then diagrams of how to do the stitch. There are diagrams for right handed sewists and for left handed sewists too.

The projects are fairly simple to make and would be ideal for beginners, it is the embroidery on them that makes them look so good. Projects include a sewing tidy, a pin cushion, cushions, aprons, bags and a blanket. Each project is spread over a few pages with a list of what you need to make the item, a step by step guide to making the item, and to embroidering it, a photo of the finished item and diagrams. You will also find a techniques guide and templates at the back of the book.
There are some fun projects in here, I particularly like the sewing tidy. The red and cream colour scheme used throughout the book gives the items a timeless feel. This book would be good for beginner sewists, or for more experienced sewists who are looking to learn to embroider.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitive guide to braids, 13 Mar 2011
Braiding is an ideal technique to introduce texture, or a trimming to your textile work. The first half of this book covers the techniques needed to make the braids including knotting, looping, weaving and working with beads. There are written instructions and photographic guides to each technique.

The middle of the book has a braid and trim selector, showing photos of all the different variations shown in the latter half of the book and telling you which page number you will find them on. The second half of the book devotes two pages to each braid variation showing you 4 different ways of making it, with colour and material variations.

The Witching Hour
The Witching Hour

Edition: Paperback
Price: £7.19

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Amazing!, 13 Mar 2011
This review is from: The Witching Hour (Paperback)
This is my all time favourite book. The first Anne Rice book I ever read and I could not put it down at all! It's one of those books that you do not want to stop reading but equally never want it to end. It is so well written you are completly immersed into the book and feel like all the characters are real. I've enjoyed Anne Rice's Vampire chronicles but nothing beats this book, I would recommend it to everyone.

Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Very good value for money and my 3 year old son loves it. It's relatively short (just under an hour) but keeps my son transfixed the whole time it is on. Ideal for any Peppa Pig fan.
