5.0 out of 5 stars Great compilation of the Immediate years, 10 Jan 2011
A very comprehensive compilation of the Immediate years from one of the best bands of any era the Small Faces.

Should you not have Ogden's Nut Gone Flake on the 2nd CD you get all of the 2nd side of that album including the dialogue of Stanley Unwin which is one of the highlights of Ogden's.
Any compilation that includes Tin Soldier and Rene is a must and at this price a no brainer!

5.0 out of 5 stars The most amazing book I have ever bought or ever will., 1 Jun 2007
Always difficult to buy a book that sealed and expect not to be dissapointed.

Not this one.

The work and attention to detail is simply breathtaking.

Rather than give away all the surprises the book contains copies and other memorabilia of parts of the Tour De France through history and thankfully an English translation in a separate booklet is included, so you can understand in the true spirit of the TDF each item.

The painstaking work that went into this book is worth anyones money.

Simply perfection.

An absolute must.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 star music, 4 star Compilation, 5 May 2006
This review is from: The Jam Story (Audio CD)
The Jam were the very band I grew up with.

Seeing Going Underground on TOTP blew me away, the riff, the energy.

As a fan I of course have my own personal favourites.

All tracks on this album are terrific..but, it omits some key tracks.

'A'Bomb in Wardour Street' and 'News of the World' were great A'sides, the latter a Bruce Foxton song, both sadly missing here.

The Jam were more than a singles band, excellent Album tracks and B sides made them the complete band and this album goes some way to show that, but some really great tracks have been missed by the compilers 'Smithers-Jones' another Bruce Foxton song, some great album tracks, 'Art School', 'It's too bad' and 'Billy Hunt'.

Despite the last two tracks on CD2 being great covers, those two missing A'sides would have been a better choice and really have made this a 5 star compilation.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you only ever own one Jam album, make it this one, 7 Feb 2006
This review is from: Snap SE [2CD] (Audio CD)
I originally had this as an LP back in 1983.
It was at the time the only album to feature the studio recordings of Strange Town, When you are young, All around the World, Bitterest Pill, News of the World, Beat Surrender, Funeral Pyre, Absolute Beginners and that all time classic Going Underground.
There have been since several 'Hits' and 'best of packages'even an edited version of SNAP! just including the singles, but this is the one to have.
The Jam were a great singles band, but hidden on LP's were some terrific tracks, Thick as Thieves, Man in the Corner Shop.
But some wonderful B sides Butterfly Collector, Smithers-Jones and the classic B side that should have been an A side Tales From the Riverbank.
If you only ever own one Jam album, make it this one.
All the essential stuff is here for under a Tenner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Soul from the Finest of Soul singers, 14 Jun 2005
This review is from: Soul Master/25 Miles (Audio CD)
Edwin Starr I was very fortunate to see live once at the Isle of Wight Scooter Rally in the mid-80's.
He was amazing Live, the energy, the soulful voice.
The twin package on this CD really marks his wonderful pre-'War' and pre 70's Tamla Motown work.
Soulmaster contains I feel his best work,'Agent Double-O-Soul', 'SOS','Headline News' and the real standout track, 'My Weakness is You' all wonderful Soul Standards of the Mid to late 60's.
25 Miles standout track is that great Northern Soul All-Nighter clasic '25 Miles' a song you can't fail to dance to.
The rest of the CD is full of treasures not normally found on compilations albums, so it sounds new and fresh.
Remastering is excellent and the packaging of the two albums on one CD, make this a well thought out package plus the three non-lP extra tracks.
Classic Soul from a truly great artist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Zucchero Fantastico!!!, 5 Sep 2004
This review is from: Zu & Co. (Audio CD)
A very special lady in my life brought me this as a gift from Italy, so it will always be a special album to me.
I had only known the artist from his collaboration with Paul Young 'Senza Una Donna', but Zucchero in Italy is to popular music, to what Luciano Pavarotti is to Opera.
Too many great collaboration's to mention but my personal favourite is a Sting song, in Italian 'Muoio Per Te' its simply beautiful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply one of the best albums ever, 5 Sep 2004
I never thought that DM could better Violator, but as with all the quality reviews on Amazon for this exceptional album it has.
This simply is one of the best albums ever, its dark, its melodic and I believe contains DM's greatest ever single the simply brilliant 'Walking in my shoes' its mixture of synth/drums and distorted guitars makes for a album which makes you want to replay as soon as it stops, not one single song less than brilliant.
One of the simply must own albums.

Don't be fooled by the title, this isn't the Clash going Andrew Lloyd Webber.
This is simply a starting compilation to the world of one of the best bands of all time.
The Clash were an honest band, they made some of the most energetic music ever, were possibly the greatest live band ever, were pioneers of music to move away from Punk rock and with each album made they just furthered their creative wings and strangely for a band had three front men.
The compilers just about got it right, leaving some great songs for the listener to look forward to when they buy the albums. The clash never made a bad album, they are all great, but if you can't beg, steal or get hold of a single album, part with the £15 quid and get this, no need to disect the tracks, this is music at its very best.
Hats off to the compliers and packaging team, this is how all compilations should be done, the booklet is excellent, very informative notes and great pics plus another booklet with the lyrics.
What more do you want? you need to buy this...

5.0 out of 5 stars TSC at their best!! Hooray!! for uncommercial albums, 31 May 2004
This album is a hidden gem, Very uncommercial.
At the time of release, sadly commercial sales for TSC dipped, hence why its a hidden gem.
This is sad, but maybe TSC's audience wanted 'Long Hot Summer' part 3, 4, 5 etc every year, but with maturity you can listen to this some 16 years after it was released in a different light.
The First part of the album is very experimental, beautiful vocals, orchestration, piano and charming gentle tunes as good as any of TSC's early work.
Standout tracks 'The story of someone's shoe' and Mick Talbot's 'The little boy in a castle' are a case in point.
The second part of the album has soul, even funk with the only two singles released off the album, the charming 'Life at the top peoples Health Farm' and 'How she through it all away' showing the humour and softer side of The Style Council.
Its a terrific album, enjoy it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Jam Live, unbeatable, 31 May 2004
This review is from: Dig the New Breed (Audio CD)
I remember my Father buying me this on vinyl in 1982, so it will always be special.
One of the main reasons was to have Going Underground on a LP.
The Jam simply generated energy whenever they played live, lots of great feedback from Paul's Rickenbacker, Bruce's always solid Bass covering the lack of another guitar on stage and the other part of the great rythmn section is Rick's understated Drums.
I would even go far to say that the tracklisting on this album which rather than going for all the commercial singles, goes for some of those great album tracks, Sound Affects 'Set the house ablaze' I think is better live than on that great album.
'Standard's' from Modern World is another with the simply lovely crowd participation on 'Ghosts' from The Gift is another gem.
A hidden gem here is the great cover 'Big Bird' which is the only Jam album to find this track on.
Sadly I never got to see the Jam Live, but this goes some way in having a momento of how great they were.
