This is a sobering insight into the paradoxes, sacrifices and terrors of war in Afghanistan and of the extraordinary human qualities that it generates. Paddy Bury's story is immediate, unflinching and (as far as a non-combatant reader can judge) gives a true impression of what we ask our soldiers to do for us. Quite brilliant, in fact.
