4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product, shame about the price., 14 April 2014

This is a great idea. It's just a shame it is so expensive. I was uncertain about ordering it, just in case it turned out to be a waste of money. Fortunately it turned out to be really useful. I'm still not sure if I would call it a bargain though.

1.0 out of 5 stars Impossible to throw for any distance, or with any accuracy. Lasted 5 minutes., 14 April 2014

Use of the word 'Frisbee' probably violates the trades description act. It suggests a disk that can be spun and thrown for a resonable distance. This thing went for about 3m, maximum. The dogs barely took a couple of paces before they grabbed it. And once they did grab it, it took less than 5 minutes before they'd managed to saw open one of the edges to rip out the stuffing.

To be honest, I'd have been better off crumplig up a five pound note and letting them rip that to shreds.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fast, robust, works., 11 April 2014

I really like peripherals that feel as if they could survive lives little knocks. Some stuff feels like it will fall apart if you sneeze to violently. Not so the Anka Uspeed. This really does have a brick-like quality to it that makes you believe that this could not only survive falling off the desk, but falling down a mountainside. So it would have been easy for it to look brick-like as well, but the slight angle of the hard drive does, somehow, prevent that.

But the most important thing is the performance. And it's no slouch at all. My system is too old to have USB3, but it does have eSATA. Measurement of sequential transfer gives read and write speeds of 180MB/s - which I think may be a limitation of the drive (3TB Seagate Baracuda). The best thing is that it is hot-swappable. With my old dock I had to reboot to get Windows to recognise when I'd replaced the disk. The Uspeed has no such problems (which is handy when doing duplicate backups).

Why only 4 stars? Because the power cable is too short.

1.0 out of 5 stars 30 minutes of jiggly nothing, 14 Mar 2014
This review is from: Melancholia [DVD] (DVD)
I'll have to come clean and state that this review is based on the first 30 minutes of the film, because that's all I could withstand. I have never encountered such a meaningless pile of garbage. Nothing at all happens in those first 30 minutes. But it does happen in an artistic fashion, at least I assume that is what the jerky camera work is supposed to be.

WARNING!

When this stuff arrived I was astonished by the contents. As a retired chemist I recognised the chemical in this product. It is, and has been since 2009, classified as a Class C drug in the UK. Possesion carries a maximum penalty of 2 years imprisonment.

Needless to say, the contents went straight down the sink and I emailed both Amazon and the suppliers, expecting to see the product withdrawn. So I was surprised to see it was still available for sale (even though supply carries a maximum penalty of 14 years).

I'm hoping this review will succeed in getting it withdrawn from sale. Otherwise I'll have to move on to more powerful means (like the Police, or even The Daily Mail - I bet they'd love this story).

4.0 out of 5 stars Snug and comfy, 31 Jan 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This product would have received 5 stars but for one major problem. I ordered size XXXL and received size XXL. When I complained I was told that they don't actually make an XXXL. Fair enough, but why is XXXL still listed as available?

However, it turns out that XXL is the correct size for me. I wanted something I could wear under a T-Shirt when doing archery. In this sport flappy sleeves is a major no-no, so the snug fit of the UnderArmour base layer is a big plus. I later tried a similar product from a different manufacturer and XXL was far too small.

It is also great with variable temperatures. Shooting indoors during the winter often means one starts off in a freezing hall, which soon warms up after the heating is switched on. The HeatGear is good at compensating for both temperature extremes.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible writing, terrible science, just terrible., 23 Jan 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It's not often that I have to give up on a book, but after struggling through the first half I had to give up on this drivel. If it had been a paperback it would be ripped in two to prevent anybody else from having to suffer the pain of reading it. As it is my Kindle nearly went through the window.

I could, perhaps, forgive the characters that behave totally inconsistently. I could, perhaps, forgive the writing that would be poor for a thirteen-year-old. But I really cannot forgive the totally bogus science. How on Earth could a solar disturbance remove oxygen from the Earth's atmosphers (apart, it seems, from under a small row of trees)? How does this same disturbance remove all traces of magnetism? And there are loads more examples where impossible effects are attributed to this solar event. It is obvious that the author knows nothing about the topis - and couldn't be bothered to do more than read (and not understand) a few pages of Wikipedia.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dire!, 3 Jan 2014
This review is from: Elysium [DVD] [2013] (DVD)
The whole concept of this film is totally unbelievable. The science is laughable. The acting is atrocious. The plot might satisfy a six-year-old, but not an intelligent one.

Just one example (warning spoilers)...

Every home on Elysium has a built-in Autodoc that can cure anything (from radiation poisoning to having a grenade explosion removing your face). So why does Elysium have fleets of hospital shuttles ready to hop down to the surface - each of which has at least 20 Autodocks on board? It makes no sense at all.

Really, if your IQ is in double-digits please don't waste your time watching this drivel.

5.0 out of 5 stars At last, a version suitable for the second half of the 20th Century, 12 Dec 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I first bought this on cassette back in the 1980s. Sadly the cassette died, shortly before I had no equipment to play it on. I spent ages trying to find this album on CD or, even better, MP3 - all with no joy. Over the years I never forgot this album. The sad loss of Nelson Mandela last week prompted me to search again - and there it was at last. Not cheap, but well worth it.
