1.0 out of 5 stars When they do work they aren't bad at all, 5 Jun. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I'm afraid this product is rubbish! They seem to be a generic item that's churned out in China and various companies load their own software. I've had a few of them now and they all pack up after a while, that's if they work at all properly straight out of the box! When they do work they aren't bad at all, but it's a hassel keep having to return them. Very disappointing that they just don't seem to have any build quality or something. Problems include going out of focus, no focus from beginning, stopping working altogether and just stopping recording. Would be an excellent product for more reliability and I would happily pay twice as much or more for that!

2.0 out of 5 stars The Old adage - you get what you pay for, 5 Dec. 2014
I bought this item from Ebuyer, but wish I'd gone to Amazon as their returns policy is more favourable!

I bought it as a sound system for the PC, but couldn't connect straight away because the 3.5mm jack leads required by the PC aren't supplied. Though generally there's a reasonable amount of connectors. Then it took me a couple of days mucking about to get Windows 7 to recognise it and it must have done by accident in the end!

Once I got the sound working, not much comes out of the centre unit and the front right is faulty, giving much hissing and distortion. Unless you're in good light with good eyesight, the connecting is difficult due to very faint markings on the back of the amp. Those on the front for control are no better, but at least you do have a remote too. The volume control on the amp itself is horribly un-positive and the LED readout confusing. The RCA audio lead connections on the back of the amp don't inspire confidence and feel actually quite slack. Now also found that the rear sockets are incorrectly marked i.e bass is actually centre!

There's a fair amount of bass and top end, but of course severely lacks mid range. Volume is poor, though OK for the computer room. Trying it out with our 4 year old Panasonic flat screen TV, the TV very much out shone it for both range, quality and volume!

It's OK I suppose, but as always, you get what you pay for!

2.0 out of 5 stars I really wanted this to work - well!, 3 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I've only had this one about a week, but I'm pretty sure now that it will have to go back. It feels nice and solid with a reasuring heaviness, a very attractive product. There are loads of brackets, screws, cables etc, as well as screw driver and allen key. The picture is occassionally very sharpe. How I wish it worked better!

The recommended bracket to use for dash cam work takes a bit of assembly, having to remove screws, turn components etc.. You then find it obscurs the tiny screen by at least 50% with a great band running across the middle of it. This arrangement turns out to be a bit too flimsy too, as you can see it wobbling as you drive, unlike another cam I have mounted next to it.

I'm using it with a Samsung Class 10 32G card, but the picture is very stuttery and often pixalated or completely frozen when connecting to the PC. Saving to the PC before playing back offers little improvement.

There appears to be a component loose within the body of the camera. You can hear it rattle as you drive along or shake the camera gently. You can also hear this on playback of course.

The clock/timer seems to have re-set itself to 2 days ago too!

Nice, if it worked!

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible value, 14 Jun. 2014

At 99p including carriage from Hong Kong you just can't grumble anyway, but it does work too. I've only tried it transmitting photos from phone to my PC (fitted to the PC) - what I bought it for and it works fine. Took a while to get here -understandable and was still within the estimated time stated. It has a little red LED to show something is happening and the PC just recognised it straight away.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoying it so far, 14 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Light weight but not too flimsy construction and quite smart appearance. The playback on the PC looks good quality and it picks up the sound of indicators etc very well. It is supplied with a good long length of lead for connecting to the car's auxiliary socket, plus a USB cable. Be prepared to figure it all out yourself though! The instructions are probably the worst example of translation I have personally seen, to the point that I found them almost completely useless! As a result, I'm not sure I'll ever get the most out of it, not being much of a techno geek. Otherwise I would give it 5 stars, particularly for value. As mentioned elsewhere, the battery charge doesn't last long, maybe an hour at best with mine, though not a problem once plugged into the car. I bought a Samsung class 10 32G card to go with mine, which works fine and will probably store about 6 hours with sound at full quality. A micro SD USB stick style reader has come in handy, rather than bringing the whole thing in out of the car. The windscreen mount seems sturdy enough and fits in my MK 4 Golf fine.

As an update: Have sent the first one back after a few weeks as the quick release clip has started to break for one. Secondly it has developed an intermittent fault of stopping the recording as you're going along. This is in spite of having plenty of memory space. I have ordered another because I'm hoping that it's just a fluke, that it's very good when working and you can't really grumble for the price.

Further Update: Replacement has arrived and is in use. I'm sure I ordered it from the same Amazon page, but it came in a different box and the software is definitely different as it has more steps to the zoom feature, segments the recording and brings up a picture of a sports car when opening and shutting down. In addition, this one will not allow fast forward/reverse in the playback mode on the camera, though on the PC this is fine of course. So far so good though.

Further to the further update: I have applied to return the second camera as the focus has now gone! Otherwise it was working well. Whether this is due to it getting hot in the car, which may have caused internal distortion - who knows! Either way the focus is now really blurred, and it is a dash cam - cars get hot and you can't be expected to carry it round all the time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very bright and good balance, 20 Feb. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I had been using a 60w bulb in this room before and the contrast is quite spectacular. It really is bright and probably the equivalent of the 150w as claimed. It also gives a good cool light as claimed, so I find it good for craft projects. The first one did flash still some hours after being switched off, but the seller was brilliant and sent out a replacement straight away with no questions asked.

4.0 out of 5 stars Capable of great results, 19 Feb. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This scanner has a nice compact design and is capable of some incredible results with the Silverfast software. I had trouble loading the drivers, but I contacted Plustek UK and Ed Hill there was very very helpful in guiding me through. He assured me that it was very rare to have such difficulties, but I would have to be the 1 in a 100! Whether it's something on my PC, the software or just me, I don't know! The software, both Plustek drivers and Silverfast do seem to be a bit unstable at times though. I don't have trouble with anything else and my PC is well above the minimum spec requirements. It can tend to lock-up a bit though for no apparent reason, it doesn't like changing settings sometimes and other times takes several attempts to get it to save settings etc..

It came with a UK 3 pin transformer/reducer and I'm told this will be the case if you buy from a UK source.

The Plustek software is very basic by all accounts and I've not tried to use it for scanning. The Silverfast is extensive and will take a lot to really master. There is so much that can be done with it. Yet there is also the 'Smart Pilot' which helps you navigate through on a much reduced course, but still with very good results. Pushing it to the limits I've not done yet, but will update in time. For the moment it looks like extremely high detail is achievable, though at the cost of time and file size. Even on the Smart Pilot settings, when you're used to it a bit more, it can still take several minutes a frame. The Silverfast dust and scratch removal is great, but it wont take everything out, so cleaning can add a lot of time too. Be prepared! It does mean that you can bring those slides to life though and get more out of your negs than the commercial print hoses did.

I've not bought anything like this before, nor done any fine honing, so just a few tips on looking after and using it would have been nice. But nothing. However; it is nicely made, good bit of leather well riveted etc.. The useable length is a little under 13 inches.

Don't be surprised by the size of these bars, they're pretty tiny, a bit less than 40mm long. So it seems a bit pricey, but they will go a long way.
