Aurora AS1023CD 12 Sheet Paper Shredder with Large 18L Pull-Out Waste Bin
Aurora AS1023CD 12 Sheet Paper Shredder with Large 18L Pull-Out Waste Bin
Price: £55.94

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but no reason to buy it, 30 Aug. 2013

I rate this shredder highly, it's relatively quiet compared to other similar products and easily does the task. There is; however, no justifiable reason to buy this product. It's quite expensive and for around £20 less, you can buy the Amazon Basics 12 sheet shredder which is essentially exactly the same machine - the actual shredder unit is identical, down to the look. The only differences are with the bin and in many ways, it's a worse design than the simple take-off-the-top design.

Firstly, the door does take a lot of encouragement to close before it's properly seated and the shredder recognises it. Secondly, the door design means the bin is actually very small and fills up very fast. The worst part of the bin is that, even with the door fully closed, the paper just goes everywhere. When you open the door the shredder paper is all over the back, behind the bin.

The only thing points it has over the Amazon product is that it has wheels. Also if you're particularly adverse to pulling the shredder unit off the bin each time to empty then the door design may be for you. It is a good shredder but the it's too expensive and there are no good reasons to buy this over the cheaper Amazon Basics shredder, the different bin design is actually a drawback in my opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little hard drive, 20 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Having suffered an external HD failure from Lacie I decided to buy this little Seagate to replace it. The drive itself is very compact and looks great with a simple but attractive design. It can easily be carried around and the case looks like it will survive a knock.

The interesting part about this drive is that the part of the drive which houses the USB3 connector actually comes apart from the rest of the drive exposing the SATA connection. It means you can swap out the USB3 for other connections if you wish or in my case I've even used the connection part to plug into an old hard drive. It's a useful little feature. The downside to this is that it does come out when you don't want it to. When you try and disconnect the USB connection from the drive, you have to hold onto that part to make sure you don't pull the whole thing off the drive.

The hard drive read and write speeds are very good over USB3. The drive is backwards compatible so it will work with USB2 and speeds are acceptable there. I've had no issues with overheating either which I have found in other drives before. This is a great little drive and is good value for money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good for the price, 20 Aug. 2013

This shredder is a great deal. It's very, very good for the price. You definitely won't find a cheaper 12 sheet shredder anywhere. It is very powerful and, well, it shreds!

The downsides:
-I've found that it can overheat maybe a tad quicker than other shredders and once it does, it takes a very long time to cool down again.
-The bin isn't the best design, it has no handles and only a thin rim to hold it with to empty it.
-The shredder itself is also very heavy but that's not too much of a problem.

Other than those minor problems (and I mean they really are minor), this is a great product for the price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good quality if a little heavy, 20 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought the Asphalt Grey one which has the red back to it as you see in the photos. When I went to the checkout; however, the product image changed to a completely different backpack which was a light grey. Don't be alarmed though, the photo on the product page is actually the right one and it's more of a very dark grey, almost black colour.

The bag itself is really well made and very comfortable to wear. It's big inside without being cumbersome and has lots of zipped pockets.

The only bad thing I will say about it is that it is a little heavy when empty, not unreasonably so but more than you may expect. I paid £48 for mine from Amazon which was a great deal. At the moment it's £70 + £5 delivery so I suggest holding off as it may come down again.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the quality I was hoping for, 20 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this as a deviation from my usual of buying Speedo as it looked great in the photo and the reviews have been mostly positive. It comes in a nice box and looks like a quality product when you open it. The first time I put it on I realised that the sizing runs small, around one size too small. The material is quite thick which is good but after a few weeks it has really started to thin out and has lost a lot of its elasticity. The swimsuit itself looks quite nice with a simple pattern but the material is not as smooth and soft as it appears in the product photos.

Overall I'm disappointed with this swimsuit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely material and perfect fit, 20 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I've always bought Speedo but recently decided to try Addidas and Head swimsuits and found their fabrics are nowhere near as good as Speedo. This swimsuit has the smoothest and softest material I have ever worn - it's extremely comfortable to wear. The fabric is on the thinner side but the front is fully lined so there's no problem with it turning see through when wet.

This is not Endurance fabric (which I've found to be far less comfortable) but it seems to be lasting well and looks as good as new after a few weeks of chlorine. The material has a lovely shine to it and is very flattering.

I'm quite tall but the sizing was perfect for me and wasn't too short as others have found it. It is medium leg height and offers good coverage. The suit also comes quite high up the back which is great for those who want a little more coverage. This is my favourite swimsuit for a while and I will stick with Speedo from now on!

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple but works, 29 Nov. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a very simple product but works as you would expect it to. The package came literally as just the item in a small padded envelope with no documentation whatsoever. It's actually very short and appears to be shorter than the photo would suggest. This is not a problem if you have a lot of room between ports but, if like me and you use it for security cameras where you have a lot of connectors on the back of the DVR, you may have trouble fitting in all the connections with this splitter. Other than that, it works and it's very cheap.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what you expect, 29 Nov. 2012

So I've bought memory cards from eBay before and ended up with a fake so I'm quite wary. The one that arrived is genuine and comes with the MicroSD to SD adaptor which is very useful. I use it in my Xperia and boosted the storage from 16GB to over 40GB! The read/write speed is very good and I've had no problems with this card.

You need to make sure you get a fast memory card for your phone otherwise you could see many functions slowing down such as the camera taking longer between shots, files opening slower.. I wouldn't go for anything below a class 8 really and this class 10 card is ideal. The price is also fantastic at under half the price of buying it instore at places like PC World (never buy a memory card from there because you will be ripped off).

The packagins is a pain, even with the cutting along the line and pulling it out, it refuses to budge - but other than this minor gripe it's highly recommended addition to your smartphone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very clever and actually useful, 29 Nov. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have a Sony Xperia T which didn't come with any tags so I bought these. These are the NT1 tags and there is a newer version called NT2; however, these are the same apart from colour. You will need to download the "Smart Connect" app to use the tags and NFC needs to be turned on (you can leave it on as it uses very little battery power).

As soon as you swipe your Xperia over the tags the phone will open up the relevant app and you can assign almost any task or tasks. I have one set up for "Home" which turns on WiFi, changes sound profile to loud, turns on bluetooth to pair to a wireless speaker etc. They work very well and it's very well integrated to phone functions. The tags themselves are quite attractive and well made, I have one on a keyring and it appears to have survived all the knocks. I've tried the tags with other NFC android phones and they do recognise them so if you can find a relevant app then you can use these as well.

Things I would improve:
-You can only use the NFC on the Xperia T whilst the phone is on and unlocked so you can't just pick up your phone and swipe it over a tag when it's on standby. This is not a problem with the tag but with the phone but I'd like the option.

-The commands are stored in the Smart Connect app and not the tags so you can't buy 2 or 3 sets of the tags and assign different tasks to two red tags or example. Again, this is a limitation of the app rather than the tags.

BlackBerry Bold 9790 SIM-free Smartphone - Black (discontinued by manufacturer)

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent BlackBerry, 12 April 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I previously had a BlackBerry Curve 8900 and I've spent a lot of time with iOS and Android phones.

When I was choosing my next phone, I was torn between the Bold 9900 and the 9790 - both of which were released around the same time, similar specs etc. In the end I went for the 9790 and have had no regrets. Despite having a slightly slower processor, there is no hint of lag. The camera is better and battery is also better. The only thing is that the screen is smaller however it has the same resolution which means that the 9790 has a higher pixel density.

Build:
When I first received the 9790, I was surprised at how light and well built the phone is. It feels solid in the hand and that's more than I can say for some of the previous BlackBerrys. The rubberised back is nice to hold and ensures your phone won't slip out of your hand. The USB port has been moved to the bottom of the phone which is actually an advantage, this means holding the device is easier if you need to use it whist it's charging. The dock charging points on previous BlackBerrys have been removed so docks will have to use the USB port. The trackpad is very sensitive however there is a slight wobble when you use it, although having read other reviews, I'm assured this is normal. The top "Unlock" button seems to be a little tough and I'm unsure the longevity of the plastic over use; however, for now I'll say it works well.

Screen:
The screen is very responsive to touch and it's sharp with punchy colours. It's also very bright so you may want to turn it down to save some battery. The front of the phone including the screen is one piece of plastic that goes all the way to the top so if you scratch your screen it may be hard to replace. The flush screen means that a screen protector will be very noticable so you may want to invest in case. The screen is actually plastic, not gorilla glass (9900 has glass).

Keyboard:
One of the main reasons to get a BlackBerry is the physical keyboard and the 9790 has one of the best that BlackBerry has ever made. The keys are big and have a reassuring feel to them. It's also quiet, unlike the Curve keyboards which have a loud click with every button press. The keyboard uses the whole width of the phone, right up to the edge. This takes some getting used to but in the end it's been made that way so you have a larger keyboard.

Camera:
It's the same as the 9700. It's not amazing but it's not that bad either. It is fairly slow to focus sometimes but the photos are surprisingly natural. There is a dedicated camera key on the side of the phone but it's not a two stage press so you can't prefocus.

OS:
The OS is great, it's very fast compared to previous BlackBerry OSs and is designed well for the touch screen. I have had this phone over 2 months now and I haven't experienced any lag. It comes with OS7.0 which is good but I encourage you to update to OS7.1. It brings in extra features such as Mobile Hotspot, BlackBerry Tag (extra NFC capabilities) and most importantly it has much better battery life. BlackBerry remains the best operating system for Email and BBM is also great as ever. The web browser is much better than previous BlackBerrys but is still behind Android and iOS in terms of speed.

Cons:
-The battery life isn't great when you first receive it however after a few days it settles down and can easily last a day. It's slightly better than Android and iOS devices but you'd still need to charge it every day. The OS7.1 update has improved the battery life significantly and you can expect around 3-5% an hour drop with average use.
-Although integration is great throughout the phone, the Facebook app (v3.0) is still some way behind the Android/iOS/WP equivalents. The Twitter app is pretty good though.
-The rubberised coating on the back cover of the phone has started to wear off. Particularly in the top left corner and around the headphone and USB port. I guess this is due to the extra usage of those areas such as when you're fumbling to plug in your charger.
-The OS is designed for pure communication function and it's definitely the best OS for it. Email and messaging is far better than any other OS. Entertainment has taken a back seat and as such the media functions aren't as pretty as the other OS alternatives.
-Leading from the last point, the App World has far less apps and entertainment apps than the App Store or Android Play.

Overall I would highly recommend this phone, as long as you know what you're getting. It's the perfect BlackBerry and ideal for those of you who want the best communication device.
