3.0 out of 5 stars Looks nice, getting there is less so, 13 May 2011
The item looks nice when fully assembled but the amount of time it took to get to that stage is really not what I was expecting, or wanting. There are many parts to assemble, many of which were not measured to the size they needed to be and the instructions were, in my opinion, very confusing in several parts which hindered the process. It took a total of 4-5 hours to completely fix up, with two people, due to many parts not fitting. Even right now, the unit itself is not secure at all as the locking bolts used to hold certain pieces in place are very flimsy and the slightest movement causes them to 'release', which is obviously a problem when you have glass sheets balancing on wood that will move further apart when these bolts are released.

Luckily, it is currently in a position where it is secure (for now) and capable of holding electronic equipment, but we are needing to purchase something to stop these bolts from releasing and causing the structure of the unit to become unstable. The only reason this has got three stars is because it genuinely looks nice when assembled, but don't expect to have it that way in an hour.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cheap and reliable, 12 Nov. 2010
I bought this for my new iPod (just over a month old) because it was picking up a fair amount of scratches on the back as these devices usually do. I bought this because it was cheap and looked just like what I was looking for. I'm glad I did. It's of great quality, fits my iPod perfectly and is quite a hard material so wont slip off easily. If it gets a little greasy on the back it's easy to clean off, even more so with the small cloth they provide you with. You can also see the back of your iPod so it's handy if you have a device with an engraving on the back. You also get a screen protector but I don't use those so can't comment.

My only gripe is that there is no hole in the cover for the volume buttons or power button. It can sometimes be a little difficult to adjust the volume as you have to press through the material to get to the button itself. Other than that, a great product at such a reasonable price.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Worthy Upgrade, 29 Oct. 2010
Before purchasing this device, I had previously owned a 2nd generation iPod Touch. Whilst it had served me well for two years, it was beginning to see it's age and the unfortunate thing about Apple devices is that the older they get, the more obsolete they become. So I decided to purchase this iPod and I have not been disappointed.

What makes this iPod more worthwhile than previous iterations? Well, there are numerous things that come into play when choosing this iPod over any other. I will review each point seperately and award a score out of 5 for each one, with 5 being excellent and 1 being poor.

Front facing camera/Rear facing camera - 4/5
The inclusion of the two cameras is easily the most discernible feature of this iPod. The front facing camera is mainly used for FaceTime, Apple's video communication software, with the rear camera taking video footage in 720p HD. The quality of recorded videos is remarkable for an MP3 player - sound and image come together perfectly. That being said, taking still images is not so remarkable. The rear camera can only take images at 0.7 megapixels which does not produce as good a picture as one would hope it to do. Taking pictures in good light can improve the quality of the pictures by a wide margin, but the main focus of the rear camera is the video recording, which is excellent. Overall, the inclusion of the two cameras is more than enough to warrant a purchase.

Retina Display 5/5
If you've ever used a previous iPod touch and you move onto this one, you will be immediately blown away by the quality of the screen on this device. It is, quite simple, phenomenal. Pictures and videos look ten times better with this new display and reading text on the device is made so much more easier, and fun, with the ultra high quality screen display. I cannot fault it. Games that are made with retina display support look so perfect on the screen.

iOS 4.1 - 4/5
This device comes preloaded with Apple's proprietary mobile operating system, titled iOS 4.1. Multi-tasking is enabled, as well as lock/home screen wallpapers, game center support and a wide range of other things. The fluidity of this system and the sheer ease of use it comes with make the device heads and shoulders above anything else. Combined with the retina display, it looks immaculate on your screen.

There are many, many other points to be discussed but these are, for me, the main features that make this device a more worthy purchase than previous iterations. It's expensive, but it's worth the money in more ways than one. If you're looking for a perfect christmas present and you have the money, this is what you should be looking at.

5.0 out of 5 stars Glee-fully fantastic, 2 May 2010
I have not been a fan of Glee for that long. I have only just caught up with the episodes. Needless to say, I am a fan, a very big fan, and this album is fantastic. 8 songs for a fiver is more than worth the money.

My personal favorites are 'Like a Virgin', 'Like a Prayer', 'Express Yourself' and '4 minutes'. However, the best track has GOT to be Vogue. Jane Lynch's vocals are fantastic and the video to the track, which can easily be seen on YouTube, is utterly sublime. I do think they missed a trick by not having 'Hung up' in the episode but for a Madonna fan, or just a Glee fan, this album is a definite buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't take itself seriously and benefits because of this, 29 Mar. 2010
Just Cause 1 was a good game, but heavily flawed. The aiming system was of poor design and although the environment you played in was nice to look at, it couldn't cover up the obvious problems which blighted the whole game. So along comes Just Cause 2. The previous problems have been eradicated, the gameplay flows nicely and the island in which you play on is a stunning creation - gorgeous to look at and gigantic in design.

Firstly, this is one of the few games that comes along and refuses to take itself seriously. It is not supposed to be realistic and benefits because of this. The things you can do, and the stunts you can pull off, are heart stoppingly insane. There are very few games that you can stand on top of a plane as it flies to the ground, jump off and then attach yourself to a moving vehicle before hijacking it and going off the edge of a cliff, right before leaping out at the bottom as it explodes in a plume of fire and you go floating off with your parachute. And this is just one possible thing to do out of many. The entire island is a playground and ALL of it is available to explore.

Secondly, although the game still suffers from an, often, irritating shooting system, the game feels nice to play. The way you control your character is fluid, it feels right and much better than the first. The selection of vehicles is impressive. You can drive jets, helicopters, boats, bikes. Not only that, you can have a lot of fun by using the grapple hook to attach vehicles together, or even people! The island is huge, the amount of stuff to do can easily take you up and above 30-40 hours of gameplay and when you start playing, you might not be able to stop.

All of the glowing attributes obviously have to lead to a big negative. In this case, it's the voice acting. To put it quite simply, it's horrendous. Some characters are better than others but none are good. In particular, a few characters don't even feel real due to the voice acting. It feels forced, accents are blatantly faked and it just smells of silliness. It's the games biggest flaw and if there is to be a third entry in this series, then they need to adjust it.

That being said, if you can ignore the horrible voice acting and minor gameplay flaws, then you should buy this game. It could quite possibly be the biggest game environment I have ever seen before and with that comes a huge amount of things to see and do. If you like massive sandbox games, then look no further.

5.0 out of 5 stars Imaginative, well written sci-fi, 29 Mar. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Being a massive fan of the sci-fi genre, I picked up this boxset just last week (good decision too as it has now gone back up in price!). However, I had already watched the first season. In fact, I am currently watching season two, which will be coming to an end soon.

Firstly, the show is just great. It's refreshing to see a show perfect the sci-fi genre so well. The explanations for each scenario are complete nonsense but when you're watching, it just passes you by and you forget to care about it. The cast is fantastic, a great ensemble of characters that you would never think to see working together yet are thrust into the same team.

The show focuses on a team of investigators (an FBI agent, genius scientist who spent 17 years in a mental institution and his wayward son) working on mysterious, odd cases which are all part of "The Pattern". These include mind control, teleportation, alternate universes, astral projection, mutation and many other situations that are simply out of this world. Some of the episodes are genuinely gory and creepy, so this is probably not something to let the young ones watch! The show also has a very interesting story arc that continues through each episode and also into season two.

The stories are great, the writing is great, the cast are great. To put it simply, if you like sci-fi and enjoyed watching the x files when that was on television, then Fringe is certainly for you. It's modern, funny at times and genius at the same time.

However, there is one thing I must bring up that is not a positive. It is not regarding the show itself, but again, the packaging it comes in. My packaging might simply be a one off but the first time I opened each DVD case, a handful of small pieces of black plastic came tumbling out. These pieces of plastic are what holds each disc in place. The prongs are very loose and although it may be simply a case of bad luck, I fear that if any more fall out, the discs will be unable to remain still and slip about inside the case. On a more positive note, the front cover of the DVD set is great. It is that material that changes picture depending on how you tilt it, which is a nice touch.

P.S. Look out for a mysterious bald man in each episode. Buy this DVD and you'll know what I mean ;)

5.0 out of 5 stars The best modern warfare shooter available., 20 Mar. 2010
I was a big fan of the first Bad Company game and the download-only Battlefield 1943. It was because of these two titles that I was eagerly anticipating the release of Bad Company 2. And I was not disappointed!

For those of you who are unaware of what the Battlefield series is all about, the entire franchise is based around the idea of big scale battles with a high number of players and playing as a team and aiming for objectives, not for kills. Bad Company 2 only succeeds in furthering this style of gameplay and does it extremely well.

The single player campaign is not the best story ever, but it is playable and even if you only finish it once and never play it again, everybody knows that Battlefield has always been about the multiplayer action. And in here, it excels. There are four game modes, two more than the original Bad Company, and over 10 different maps to play on, each one different to the rest. And then there are four different classes to play as: medic (can drop health packs and revive dead team-mates), engineer (equipped with a choice of rocket launcher, AT mine and a drill to repair team vehicles), recon (long range sniper class that can pick off targets from afar, as well as target enemies with a mortar strike) and the assault class (typical assault rifles to use as well as ammo packs that will give team-mates ammo when they need it). These four classes are integral to the multiplayer and teamwork is the absolute key to victory.

If the Call of Duty style of play is your thing, then you will have to adapt to the BF style or you will NOT succeed in this game. Running around on your own and trying to get as many kills as possible just will not work. Moving as a team, grouping with your squad and playing tactically is how it goes in this game. If, like me, you have been waiting for a game to provide all of these, then look no further.

One last thing - if you buy this game, you will not be disappointed. Also, if you buy a brand new copy, you will get a VIP code that gives you two brand new multiplayer maps, and there is more content on the way for those who buy a new copy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Prepare to be absorbed by this genius show., 20 Mar. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Firstly, I purchased this set without having any previous experience with this show. It was what I like to call a 'blind purchase'. And it was not a regrettable purchase either! This show is amazing from start to finish. The acting is impeccable, the stories are creative and varied, the characters are realistic and the writing is also something to be admired. I have no bad things to say about this show. I've had it less than a month and I am close to finishing the whole set. I've tried to only watch 1 or 2 episodes a night but as soon as I put in that disc, I know I wont be satisfied until I've watched all the episodes on that disc.

However, there is one slight issue I have. Not with the show, but with parts of the packaging. In each DVD case for each season, there is a pamphlet with episode guides inside. The episode guides for season 1-3 are perfectly fine. However, for season 4, the pamphlet incorrectly listed the first four episodes as being on disc one, but that is not the case and therefore the entire guide is messed up.

Also, another issue is the discs themselves. I am correct in thinking that seasons 1, 2 and 4 were released as two separate volumes (first half of the season on volume 1 etc.). Obviously for this set, the two volumes for these seasons were put together into the same DVD case. This is fine by me. Except that the disc numbers are repeated. For example, in the season 1 case, there are six discs. They are numbered in the following order: 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3. This is because of the two volumes being put together. It's very lazy and wouldn't have been that hard to number them 1-6. Season 3 is not affected by this as it is shorter than the others and was not released in separate volumes.

Despite these packaging issues, the show itself is an absolute gem. I am extremely glad that I bought this set as I have now found a new show to watch every week!

The Lost Symbol (Robert Langdon)
The Lost Symbol (Robert Langdon)
by Dan Brown
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as Da Vinci code, but still fabulous., 8 Jan. 2010
I bought this book, not knowing whether or not it would give me the same feeling that 'The Da Vinci Code' did, another novel by Dan Brown that gained a size-able amount of hype due it's controversial nature and theme. The book is considerably bigger but fear not, it is still as exciting and exhilarating as I remembered previously.

The premise of the plot is rather complex to the average mind, but if you give it time and focus on what you are reading, then you should be able to follow along nicely. Without spoiling anything, the plot goes along these lines: A lunatic wants to get his hands of a mystical, ancient treasure rumoured to change the world forever. People are out to stop him, and along the way, you get to experience a rollercoaster ride of twists and unexpected plot turns. Dan Brown has a knack for keeping you reading on and on way past what you were intending. You read one chapter, with the intention of stopping at the end, yet when you get to the end, you find yourself five chapters on and the time has simply passed you by. Cliffhangers come at you from all directions and the action never stops. It really is a constant ride of excitement.

For me, it is not as good as 'The Da Vinci Code'. With that, it was the first time I had experienced something like it and as much as I enjoyed this book, the same feeling was not retained. Also, if you let your mind wander, even for one chapter, you may find yourself lost in the next which really isn't the right direction to take when you're reading this book.

If you're looking for something to give you hours of good reading, and you like a plot with as many plot twists and shocks as an episode of 'Lost', then this is completely the right book for you.
