2.0 out of 5 stars BBC Anti Israel Bias laid bare, 30 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: War Stories (Kindle Edition)
Political bias within the BBC is well established and widely accepted by many BBC staff privately but this book confirms the bias which many of us have seen and felt over many years by BBC staff. Jeremy Bowen is unapologetic in his anti Israeli tone in much of his writing and in a number of incidents he accepts that his reporting is coloured. He gloats in his importance on the occasion in Irag when an allied bomb struck a bomb shelter by mistake and makes no allowance for the possibility that the regime may well have deliberately encouraged the attack by a variety of methods or that such a thing would even be countenanced by the Saddam regime. All in all the book shows the terrible quality of work journalist often do in getting to the truth allbeit that they often cannot get all the information they would like but the tendenancy to tell the story which suits the pictures they have somewhats sticks in the craw and this book confirms a lot of my suspicions gathered over 40 yrs of watching these people tells their stories and later read completely contradictory stories from others at the same place.

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful and informative, 30 April 2013

This is not a huge or deep manual on the technical intricacies of solar power or its application and function but it does give a starter like me an insight into how it works and more importantly how it works and at what level it works for me on my motor-home. Since buying and reading the book I had the confidence to go and spend 500 on upgrading my batteries and installing a solar panel on the motor-home and I have enjoyed it immensely. I have already saved most of the cost in campsite fees and had the far greater pleasure of camping in small remote parks with a couple of other campers as opposed to shoehorning into a corner of a noisy campsite where i did not want to be just in order to get an electric source, now I have my own.

4.0 out of 5 stars Straighforward interesting read, 30 April 2013

I am planning a trip to Namibia next year and this little book while it is short and aimed at a teenage market is nonetheless a well researched fiction based around the skeleton coast of Namibia and I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Self Drive Holidays: How to Drive in Namibia and Make the Most of Your Visit

2.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat disappointing, 30 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this book on kindle in expectation of a good an informative read but was disappointed to find a very short manual containing little of real value and a lot of sales pitch for the author's services as a travel agent. I am planning a 2 - 3 week self drive safari in Namibia in next summer and thought the book could be a good source but I could probably have gained more by gathering a few travel brochures and reading some blogs on virtual tourist / trip advisor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Saved from the grip of Drugs, 4 Oct 2010
This is the true story of a young man growing up in Northern ireland who from an early age was involved in taking of drugs and becoming addicted depended of crime to fund his habit. The story would almost certainly have ended in premature death for this man if it were not for the saving grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and this young man accepting the free offer of salvation from God's word. The outcome is that a life has been saved to work in helping deliver young people from the grip of drugs and a soul has been saved for all eternity. To God be the praise the life of this young man and the book he has written which will be an encouragement to many a parent despairing as they watch their children sink into a spiral of hopelessness through the abuse of drugs

5.0 out of 5 stars An eye opener for those doubting the corruption of The Roman Catholic Church, 4 Oct 2010
This book is probably the most detailed and enlightening work of any author I have read on the subject of the hidden activity of the RC church and especially the way in which the vatican is run. The book goes into very great detail cover the financial corruption, media manipulation, sex abuse cover up (not just child abuse), political interference and just plain lawlessness of the Vatican and those working within it and under its control across the world. The book is admitedly long and can be heavy going but is a must for anyone who believe that the Pope is really the represnetative of Christ on earth. The author shows that in reality the pope is chosen as a result of a great deal of horse trading and electioneering as well shady ativity that would make a third world politician blush. Almost certainly this book will become a reference source on the subject for many years to come and the fact that the author has not been sued by the vatican confirms beyond doubt the truth of his claims.

1.0 out of 5 stars Woeful story line, poor acting, 17 Feb 2009
This review is from: Burn After Reading [DVD] (DVD)
This is huge dissappointment after the trailer, the acting is poor and story line verging on the childish. There are one or two moments through the film but it is not worth the drudgery of the other 90%

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, great story, 11 Feb 2009
This review is from: A Prisoner of Birth (Paperback)
Another great book from Archer, as always he entertains and keeps you turning pages all day. The story is quite long but worth every bit of effort, funny and serious in the same chapter and a real thriller to boot.

The Appeal

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor relative of the great man, 11 Feb 2009
This review is from: The Appeal (Paperback)
This is the worst book by Grisham yet, his stories always carry a bit of campaigning which I find a bit tedious but put with it. This book however was not even entertaining and was also a bit tedious and I could have written the plot myself once I got to the first few pages, so predictable.

The ending was also woeful but that has been the way for a few of his novels
