Great guide to an important topic, 25 Feb 2011
This is a well written and insightful book on a topic that is, as far as I know, not covered in depth in any other publication. Yet a basic understanding of ratios is important to beginners and vital to those wishing to widen their investment skills.
The ratios are grouped sensibly into themes. Readers are told what each ratio is, how to calculate it and what it tells you about each company. The book also explains how to use the information you glean from company results and how relevant, if at all, it is to your investment aims.
I would advise beginners to start by looking up each ratio they come across in the press to grasp the basics. As they gain confidence and knowledge they can then work through the book without difficulty.
Although the book is billed as a beginner's guide, which it most certainly is, it is also invaluable to those who have got past the initial stage of investment. It makes a great reference guide for those seeking a career in the City. I heartily recommend it.
