5.0 out of 5 stars ETERNAL CONFLICT, 7 Mar 2012
Superb book, Montefiore at his very best. He shows how from the very beginning Jerusalem has been the centre of conflict and occupied by different peoples/countries. At the same time it became a centre of sensual pleasure for the rich. Fascinating combination!

5.0 out of 5 stars BRILLIANT, 15 Jan 2012
This review is from: Young Stalin (Paperback)
One of the most brilliant books I have read. Montefiore has uncovered a mass of hitherto unknown details on Stalin's youth. Did you know that in his youth Stalin was a choirboy with a superb voice? From being a student training for the priesthood he turned into a hardened criminal? The book, full of detail, is nevertheless an entertaining read.

5.0 out of 5 stars MUSIC TO DISCOVER, 21 Nov 2011
Beautiful music well worth having, even if a little sad (understandably so!). Disgraceful that it is not better known. The orchestral playing and interpretation is also excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional playing, 13 Oct 2011
This review is from: Liszt - My Piano Hero (Audio CD)
Lang Lang has the ability to play expressively without trying to gild the lily as so many young pianists do. I look forward to the day when he attempts the Liszt Sonata, Not yet though!

4.0 out of 5 stars MUSIC TO DANCE TO, 5 July 2011
Splendid surprise to hear a symphony orchestra really perform this music as dance music, as it should be. Especially No.6 is most impressive. Bravo Chailly!

5.0 out of 5 stars HUMOR, 2 Mar 2011
Whoever said that Bach didn't have a sense of humor? These excellent performances make you laugh out loud. A "must" for any music collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars HUMAN & ANIMAL, 11 Dec 2010
Superb book and a must read for all who are fond of animals. It also shows where our own characteristics come from and how close we are to the "animal kingdom".

3.0 out of 5 stars DISAPPOINTMENT, 2 Nov 2010
This is a great shame. It is the most wonderful expressive work, but performed in a far too operatic manner instead of bringing out the intimacy and inner conflict of the music.

Quite one of the most outstanding recordings of Liszt. Great combination of virtuoso playing with beautiful poetic intepretation. A must!

5.0 out of 5 stars MUST READ, 8 Feb 2009
Beautiful book, very moving too as it describes the interaction of the Amazon culture with the culture of the American missionary who in the end is himself "converted"to their point of view.Fascinating too for anyone interested in linguistics.
