3.0 out of 5 stars lion of the desert anchor bay blu-ray, 15 May 2014
I bought this expecting the worst but was pleasantly surprised.ok it's dvd quality not blu-ray and it's been cropped from 2:35:1 to 1.78:1 aspect ratio to fully fill a widescreen tv so there are no black bars top and bottom which is an annoyance and there are no subtitles but in it's favour it is the uncut version of just over 2.hrs 53mins and what is presented on screen looks decent enough and the audio is clear.if you like this film and are too impatient(like me)to wait until a better version comes out then this is watchable if you can purchase it at a cheap price.fans of Oliver Reed,Rod Steiger and Anthony Quinn who have not seen this film will enjoy their performances.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stone The Crows featuring Maggie Bell, 14 May 2014
This cd is a re-issue of an early 70's vinyl compilation of Stone The Crows. The re-mastering job done by Talking Elephant is superb. You can hear all those intricate bass runs, piano, keyboards, drums and guitar wonderfully clear with no muddiness.every song here is an absolute corker great ballsy rock with a few slower numbers thrown in,the sequencing is so well done that it's one to be played all the way through no skipping tracks with this beauty.I had forgotten how great a vocalist Maggie Bell is,she really gives it some welly on the harder numbers like Big Jim Salter and then is equally accomplished on slower tracks like Faces and It Ain't Easy.anyone who loves early 70's rock will enjoy this I think.great stuff.

Alfred Hitchcock 5-Disc Set [DVD]

1.0 out of 5 stars Hitchcock 5 disc dvd set, 14 May 2014
On the surface this looks like a great package, five early Hitchcocks including the classics The 39 Steps,The Lady Vanishes and The Man who knew too Much but be warned the quality of this set both picture and audio wise is extremely poor.soft overbright damaged prints with numerous frame jumps and crackly soundtracks that are like public domain third generation copies with zero restoration and no subtitles.these films deserve better.avoid.

4.0 out of 5 stars Koch Media Western Unchained 8dvd box, 5 Mar. 2014
This is a good 8 dvd set from Koch Media for the Spaghetti Western fan.The restored widescreen prints are pristine and the audio choice of English,German or Italian Dolby Digital 2/0 ch is very clear and dynamic,a must for the fantastic soundtracks. Yankee as far as I know never had an English dub but even though not listed on the outer sleeve does have optional English subtitles though none of the other films do.The only downside to this set for English speakers is that most of the extras such as the film documentaries which have interviews with the directors and actors involved and look fascinating are in Italian with only a choice of German subtitles. Not all these Westerns are classics but all are enjoyable.worth purchasing if you like the genre.Koch have also released some but not all of the titles from this set on blu-ray if that's of more appeal though in truth these dvd prints are excellent.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Naked Spur region 1 warners dvd, 28 Feb. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This unusually for Warners is a very poor presentation for what is a 5 star film.the audio is fine but the picture quality is only average with faded colours and blurry image.it looks like it was transferred from a VHS tape.it's watchable but this classic deserves better.on the plus side it is region 2 compatible and has optional subtitles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Budd Boetticher spanish region2 box set, 24 Feb. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
There are only 4 films in this Spanish region 2 import.it does not contain The Tall T.they are Decision at Sundown and Buchanan Rides Alone in 1.85.1 aspect ratio and Commanche Station and Ride Lonesome in 2.35.1.The U.S. edition of this box which also includes The Tall T is prohibitively expensive selling new for £240 and secondhand for over £100.If you were to buy this set and Seven Men From Now(which includes a documentary about Budd Boetticher) and The Tall T separately it would be a cheaper option. The menu is easy to navigate and the prints are excellent and the audio is nice and clear with a choice of either Spanish or English.there are no English subtitle options and the extras aren't much just cast list, synopsis, and a few stills.I paid £30 for this from one of the Amazon sellers and it's worth every penny but I noticed that at the moment it is available from Amazon Spain for 15 a real bargain.

5.0 out of 5 stars michel legrand la musique au pluriel(box), 9 Jan. 2014
This review is from: La Musique Au Pluriel (Audio CD)
This box has 4 cds divided into vocal, jazz, cinema and piano/harp.well, what can i say, what a treat this is to listen to.just a cursory look through the tracks reveals collaborations with stan getz, miles davis, stephane grappelli, sarah vaughan and lena horne pure quality and that's only a taste of what's on the jazz cd.the cinema disc has such treasures as the three musketeers, thomas crown, baron munchausen, unused love theme from robin and marian and the fabulous love makes the changes with ray charles.the piano/harp cd is a lovely listen with Orson's theme from f for fake a highlight and smashing versions of don quixote and yentl.and if that isn't enough for you also included is a cd of michel's own vocals and collaborations with talent such as nana mouskouri sung in french don't let that put you off it's superb swinging jazz.to sum up what you get so in total is 72 tracks over 4 cds that cover michel's entire spectrum from the 50's to the present day with a lovely booklet in french and english with nice pictures and a little biographical info.before buying this I only knew Michel legrand's music from the film the thomas crown affair and am now delighted to get acquainted with some of his other excellent works.this set is an absolute steal at it's current asking price of less than £14 and is highly recommended to jazz and film buffs as well as fans and newcomers alike.superb listening.

4.0 out of 5 stars Where's old Worzel spending the festive season?, 22 Nov. 2013
I absolutely loved Worzel Gummidge especially the first four seasons before he moved to Zoo Nealand and this special is a lovely addition to the original series. There was a special magic between Worzel, the crowman and the two titchy humans that good as they were, the two later Down Under series never really recaptured. This is a delightful tale with a lovely true meaning of Christmas message that's not laid on with a trowel and is incredibly funny to boot.

3.0 out of 5 stars Flash Harry re-issue, 18 Nov. 2013
This review is from: Flash Harry (Audio CD)
Harry's voice on this is described as gravelly in the sleevenotes,it's nowhere near as bad as on Pussy Cats but it's a long way from One or Without You.The songs on this aren't as good as his previous release Knnillssonn but it's not a total train wreck. The two Eric Idle tracks are the best things on here which is a sad thing to have to say,Harry's best effort a nice but inessential retread of Old Dirt Road, and I never thought that I'd say this about any Nilsson song but How long can disco on is exactly what I was thinking listening to it.If you have stayed with Harry all the way through his career then you'll want to hear this but in truth it's a pity he had to bow out with this less than stellar effort.

2.0 out of 5 stars not very illuminating, 8 Nov. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book is an endless repetition of uninteresting "I can't believe a fat guy like me ended up in bed with a cracking dancer/model/singer/groupie stories.there are also two very unsavoury tales about John Lennon and Keith Moon that if either were alive would not have been published.the making of the albums and songs is covered in one sentence each.for example Do You Know what I Mean is dismissed as I don't even remember the words and we never sang it live. There are no insights into the recording process, the producers they worked with apart from saying that looking back we should have gone with Ray Davies mixes for Turtle Soup.We learn absolutely nothing about Howard's relationship, musical or personal with Mark Volman his co-creator for nigh on 50 years apart from that their families meet up once a year on Christmas eve..I bought this book to learn more about how he created his wonderful music and to read an amusing anecdote or two.I got neither.considering how intelligent and amusing Howard comes across on his records this book was an awful disappointment.
