5.0 out of 5 stars A recommendation from Peter Murray, Chairman New London Architecture and The London Society, 23 Jun. 2014
Peter Murray – Chairman of New London Architecture and The London Society has done terrific work in promoting architecture in London. His notable and active career includes founding what is now the annual London Festival of Architecture at, at the NLA (which follows in a long tradition of city architecture centres that began some time ago in Paris), Peter has encouraged all kinds of seminars, conferences, exhibitions and the installation of an impressively large model of central London. Peter kindly had this to say about the guide book: “London’s Contemporary Architecture has long been an essential and perceptive guide to the new buildings and places of the UK capital, but this revised edition brings new clarity to the amazing transformation that has taken place in the city since Ken and Victoria published their first edition 20 years ago - an essential read for all students of London, visitors and locals alike.”

a very good film. Why did I miss it first time around? It nicely avoids the cliches of the genre.

Not very good - poor edging (cheap), otherwise fine and reasonable value, although not the best of cotton. What else can I say?

1.0 out of 5 stars bad product, 7 July 2012

This product doesn't work. I wanted it to use with standard Braun toothbrushes and there is no charge to the device. I substituted an adapter that came from Germany with a toaster and, hey presto, the German device worked. I double checked and, yes, this device doesn't work.

Dreadful machine. The aerial could not receive any signals at all and I had to revert to an indoor aerial. The sound is horrible and one has to connect to a hi-fi system. And, with this device, the DVD player wouldn't work properly. Don't go near it. Oh, yes, the picture is OK.

Back to the Rough Ground: Practical Judgement and the Lure of Technique (Revisions: A Series of Books on Ethics)
Back to the Rough Ground: Practical Judgement and the Lure of Technique (Revisions: A Series of Books on Ethics)
by Joseph Dunne
Edition: Paperback
Price: £22.49

5.0 out of 5 stars techne and pronesis, 28 Oct. 2010

To engage with Aristotle is to edge into swampy territory where a knowledge of Greek is not necessarily an advantage, but entirely necessary in order to play the game - meaning that the non-Greek reader such as myself is reliant upon people such as Dunne. This is an excellent and important work of enormous import. It fails to tackle the manny nuances in Aristotlian studies that can be found to litter academic journals, but this would have detracted from Dunne's essential path and doubled the size of the book. The autor's grasp of the notion of techne, as well as that of phronesis, is subtle and eminently plausible. The work is well written and both it's preface that locates its subject matter, and its epilogue which raises contemporary considerations and criticisms (such as the importance of a critical aspect to phronesis) are crucially important to Dunne's convincing presentation. Read many of the other references to phronesis and one quickly realises how thorough and convincing Dunne's work is. I would not hesitate to place this book among my treasures ...a pity, then, that it isn't in hardback and that this paperback publication is such deplorable quality!
