Absolutely brilliant - the backdrop of history and politics with a great whodunit to drive the characters forward. Could not put it down - have carried on with the Shardlake series and each book is as good.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good series - comes with Children of Earth, 25 July 2011

It's a good series - not great - but for easy going sci-fi it does make good viewing.
The Children of Earth special comes with this Boxset though so don't buy separately.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the best for 2011, 23 Jun. 2011
This review is from: Room (Paperback)
I was very sceptical about reading a story based around two people who live in one room - but the whole narrative of this book is driven by emotion rather than action and is all the better for it.

If you like emotionally charged books like The Lovely Bones then you'll love this one - brave Prince Jackerjack has become one of my favourite characters from any modern book.

A great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Maybe the best TV of the decade?, 10 Aug. 2010
The Royale Family is a great show - funny, sad, honest and warm, but The Queen Of Sheba take it to other levels - rare for TV to genuinely evoke emotions but Liz Smith and Sheila Johnston's relationship just feels so true it's impossible not to cry and laugh in equal measures - genius writing too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Sunday afternoon fun, 9 Aug. 2010

All very obvious and lighthearted but great performances from Goldie and George - both at their best playing cheeky and sexy in one. Worth getting just for the Goldie's 'fruit' song.

5.0 out of 5 stars Astonishing, 9 Aug. 2010
This film really captures the rawness and honesty of Swedish cinema. Very personal and harrowing, the film actually makes you feel as though you have lived it - a stunning piece of work!

5.0 out of 5 stars A real hidden gem, 9 Aug. 2010

It didn't make a huge noise at the box office but this is one of the sweetest films I have seen. I loved Ryan Gosling in The Notebook and got this on a whim - have watched it numerous times and the magic never lessens.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wasted Opportunity, 24 July 2010
It should have been great - the story is really interesting and Jim Carry is usually funny but can do serious. What went wrong? It's just naff. Fluffy rubbish pretending to have meaning. The love story was unbelievable due to the poor acting and what could have been a complex con-man's story was treated like a bad sitcom. Save your money and get Torch Song Trilogy instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!, 16 July 2010
I've never seen the point of self-help books and to be honest thought most therapy was a little self-indulgent. This book did really open my eyes. Easy to understand and unpretentious, with common-sense examples about real life situations. A five-year phobia of tube travel disappeared pretty much immediately after reading it.

I had been put off seeing this film as it looked like a dull biography but I was very wrong. It's a great story and the characters really make it sail along - Well acted and touching. It's also surprisingly uplifting for a film about a man's final year.
