It's hard work, having your own hypocrisies highlighted, but so necessary. Should vulnerable groups not be protected from the damaging words of bigots? Well no, the w
Bigots should be exposed as such with open debate. Brilliant.

Compared with other garmins I've had (this is my fourth) it's a poor imitation, it does the job most of the time, but when you've been running for twenty minutes and find that it froze two minutes in; or return from a special run to find it won't upload... it doesn't happen often, but it doesn't have to to make this a really disappointing purchase

4.0 out of 5 stars excellent, not too tough, 5 April 2014
This review is from: Airplane! (App)
A simulator for the casual user. Oddly addictive, but not likely to sustain the enthusiast. Controls are super-simple, but I would like a hangover version where you tip it to steer

Journey Through the Solar System: The Wonderful World of Simon Abbott
Journey Through the Solar System: The Wonderful World of Simon Abbott
by Simon Abbott
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, fun and informative, 30 Dec. 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
A brilliant little book, packed with facts, general stuff, and did-you-know details, which had my son claiming that 'It has every little detail in there'
The scope isn't quite as impressive as that, but it does have lots of information, and a nice mix of language, from the chatty, informal and short, to sections with longer words where mum and dad can help out without knowing the subject matter.
It's entertaining enough that the kids pick it up unprompted and it's great to see them enthusiastic about a subject like this.

2.0 out of 5 stars Iphone misery, 28 Dec. 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Got this mainly for when I visit my parents, so I can escape into the digital world
Fired it up, and it all seemed to be going swimmingly, but I found I couldn't ctually do anything, I needed a code from vodafone, which would have popped up had I been using a pc, but I couldn't find how to get it on an iphone. I gave it a star as the signal strength was good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth a good chuckle, 5 Dec. 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
If you don't know the show, it's a gently funny parlour game done on the radio, not much more skilfully than you would at home, but the interplay is funnier. And this is the best thing about it, everyone knows each other and you feel like you've dropped not a party full of clever egotists

3.0 out of 5 stars Broad scope, sketchy detail, 4 Nov. 2013
This review is from: Pocket Beer Book 2014 (Flexibound)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
When you consider how good this book is, the question really comes down to 'what do you want it for?'
If the idea is that you're on your travels, and you want to find out which of the local brews is worth a look, then it's fine, it shows a large number of breweries, has some brief notes on each beer and awards a score to each. All well and good, but you coul;dn't possibly use it for selecting from a wide range, and you don't really get a feel for which beers suit a particular palate. In these terms, it's worth four stars.

Where it loses an extra star for me is that I flatly disagree with the ratings, at least on the English and Belgian brews which are the only ones on which I can offer an opinion. It's personal preference no doubt, but I find the authors' tastes far too conservative.

3.0 out of 5 stars How to get a job, 28 Jun. 2012
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Got this hoping it would be a 'review what you want to do' guide, but it's really for people who know what they want, but aren't really getting it. It's sensible, but simplistic.

Goon Show Classics (Vintage Beeb)
by Spike Milligan
Edition: Audio CD
Price: £5.43

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic stuff, 23 May 2012
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
It's like listening to a time-travelling Monty Python which has gone back to before they were famous to set up a radio show to seed the ideas for the Flying Circus. And it's even more perplexing than the pythons as no-one will ever convince me that Harry Secombe was doing the sort of thing the Pythons were up to, if you know what I mean, or even if you don't. It's fabulous stuff anyway, though some of Milligan's voices are a bit irritating.

5.0 out of 5 stars An astonishing man, 30 April 2012
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I think we have to forgive him for being a bit too keen on seeing his minders see off would-be assailants. You can't finish the book without a deep admiration for Michael Moore - a stubborn, irritating, smart-arsed campaigner against social injustice.

I was worried at first that this was going to be quirky stories about what he was like as a kid, but it very quickly starts on the explanation of how he ended up doing what he does, and it's a magical story of keeping pushing back at boundaries which turn out not to be the brick walls you'd imagine. I found it funny, inspirational and thought-provoking. You may find it a bit self-congratulatory, I suspect you'll find it reinforces your opinion of the author one way or the other.
