The Saving Mars Series Books 1-3

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read, 20 Sep 2014

Jess, along with a crew of other raiders from Mars, are sent to trade the precious metal Tellurim for essential rations that the Marsians (that's how the call themselves, not Martians) desperately need to stay alive. Of course things don't go quite to plan and this is their story.

A great read, imaginatively written characters, a good storyline, no writing errors that I've found - what more could you want? I've just had to go and buy the next book in the series!

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant, very unconventional time jumping story, 11 Aug 2014

A very clever and original novel that is most unlike any other story involving time travel I have read. Rather than physically going back in time, Jake is only able to send his memories back to an earlier version of himself within a limited time and physical distance. He uses this ability to 'correct' violent crimes from ever having taken place.

The consequences from his actions and the scrapes he ends up in are well thought through and lead to an exciting and imaginative story.

I can thoroughly recommend this book and will be looking to read more of Bob Blink's material in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally gripping, 12 Feb 2014

This story was one of those that keeps you up well beyond the time you ought to be going to bed!

The concept of the 'Ring' in the story is a very imaginative one which provides the backdrop for the more personal aspects of the story which include a mysterious neighbour and a missing child.

Well written with only a very minor number of typos - overall a great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A delightful winding up of the Touchstone story, 11 Nov 2013
Having brought the adventures of the Touchstone trilogy to a very satisfying conclusion in the book 'Caszandra' this further book is, as it is described in the product description, a "self-indulgent collection of family reminiscence" that is "more saccharine than dramatic".

If you are just after adventure, then it's not as exciting as the three books of the main trilogy, but if you want a delightful look into the further lives of Cass and her friends you'll love this book.

It's just such a pity that I've finished all the books now :(

5.0 out of 5 stars A very satisfying conclusion to the Touchstone Trilogy, 11 Nov 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The trilogy of books are written as the journal of a 17 year old girl called Cassandra ("Cass but never Cassie") who, on her walk home from school, finds herself on a different planet and discovers that she has some rather unusual abilities, some of which make her a danger to herself but are essential to the saving of the lives of billions on three worlds.

The first two books in the trilogy were 'un-put-down-able' and this book is no different. It continues with its totally believable style of writing with mundane, excitement, pain, adventure, terror, love, hurt and all the other things that make up real life entwined together to make such a real story.

'Caszandra' brings the main story of the trilogy to a very satisfying conclusion which is then happily further built upon by the separate short story 'Gratuitous Epilogue' which draws everything to a delightful finish.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb second part to the Touchstone Trilogy, 11 Nov 2013

The trilogy of books are written as the journal of a 17 year old girl called Cassandra ("Cass but never Cassie") who, on her walk home from school, finds herself on a different planet and discovers that she has some rather unusual abilities, some of which make her a danger to herself.

Just as with the first book in the trilogy, Stray, I struggled to put this book down at bedtime which isn't helpful when the books are wonderfully long and you have to go to work the next day!

Someone else has already commented that the second book in a trilogy is often weak, not so with Lab Rat One - this book builds on Stray and leaves you anything but disappointed - I can't recommend it highly enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars A captivating start to a fabulous trilogy, 11 Nov 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The trilogy of books are written as the journal of a 17 year old Australian girl called Cassandra ("Cass but never Cassie") who, on her walk home from school, finds herself in a totally different land. After a short time she realises she's on a totally different world. She survives on her own for a short while before being rescued and that's when the adventures really start!

I was totally gripped by this book and had to hold myself back to read at a leisurely pace rather than to rip through the book and then through the subsequent parts of the trilogy and then the 'Gratuitous Epilogue'.

The journal is so believable (if you believe in living on other planets) and I love the way that it realistically covers the mundane of life as well as all the adventures.

If bad language offends you, don't be put off by the expletive on the first page, that's about it for the whole trilogy!

I can't recommend this series highly enough and am only upset by the fact that I've now finished reading it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for my purposes, 20 Sep 2013
This is perfect for me. I've been using it to keep my phone (Sony Xperia SP) topped up when I use it as my Sat-Nav. I've done a number of journeys with it now and it works beautifully.

Physically, it's a good solid and attractive design.

I loved this book from the opening chapter and can't wait for book 2. In this story Jayne Bartholomew demonstrates herself to be a fabulously witty author with a great sense of humour and, as another reviewer has already mentioned, brings far more than just a hint of Douglas Adams' brilliance into her writing.

I found the start a little (but not very) slow but soon the pace picked up and I found myself unable to put my Kindle down until I'd finished the story. An excellent adventure story based inside a virtual reality world. A most enjoyable read and I'll certainly be keeping my eye out for more work by this author.
