Edition: Hardcover

2.0 out of 5 stars Rare Miss From A Great Author, 10 Nov 2014
This review is from: Lock in (Hardcover)
I have loved everything i have read of My Scalzi but this really was just terrible. I thought it might be because i was really looking forward to the new book so i read it again to be fair, as i really do not like giving bad reviews, anyone who can write a book is more talented than i could ever be. The book is basically a rather dull (apart from a few bits) of a cop thriller. The future is not particularly
believable in terms of the illness and the way America seems to be supporting everyone in a type of socialist state.

I hope people enjoy this book more than i did but if is the first time you will be reading Mr Scalzi i would try another one of his fantastic books first.

I was very impressed with the first book but much less so with this one. When the hero started changing into "stealth mode" and "combat mode" and changed from being someone who was bit nervous and unsure of himself to James Bond. The issue of how our hero can always find a network to hack (even in a post Nuclear war zone) where people dont have enough to eat but seem to have lots of computers. This became a bit silly at times which is sad because the heroins story come into its own and is quite interesting. Will give the next one a go as this might just be "book 2 silliness".

Enjoy

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, 25 Oct 2014

A great book. Good characters, lots of action but some good sci-fi in there too. My only issue was that at times it got a bit repetitive in the hacking talk and how every situation the heros get into is solved because there is a handy computer to hack. That aside it was an enjoyable book.

I wanted to love this book as much as i have loved everything else i have read from Mr Scalzi but i couldn't.. The plot is a rather ordinary detective novel that was predictable and pedestrian. The interesting part of the book the possibility of a distinct new culture was only barley touched upon and would have been more interesting. I don't like being over critical of authors as i respect how hard a job it is and is something i have no talent for. I am not sure if i would have given this a higher mark if it was written by someone else and it was just my very high expectations.
If you have never read Mr Scalzi start with another book such as the Old Man War or Red Shirts.

I was having problems getting waterproof shoes for walking my dog and had looked at these before and thought they were too cheap and must be "nasty". After not being able to get the size i wanted in my "preferred" shoe i decided to give these a try as they had such good reviews. These are excellent shoes they are waterproof and good fit i am size 8 and the size 8 are very nice fit (and i have fat feet). The shoes are excellent quality and would recommend to anyone.

This was a topic i knew nothing about and was expecting a rather dry book, however this was a very interesting book that not only gave the facts but also gave insight in to how Kim Philby manipulated his friends which was ultimately a greater betrayal than that of his country. I would recommend this to anyone.

Not a lover of novella but this one really was fantastic there is so much in the story not a single sentence is wasted and while i would love to read more about this Universe the story was complete in its own right. Price was far too expensive as many people have commented on but i could not even moan too much about this because i loved the story so much.

It is not often i find a book where i re-read paragraphs because they are so beautifully written, i usually tend to be more interested in the story but i found myself re-reading large chunks. This was my first book by Mr Gaiman and i have already downloaded the Anansi boys.

Others have given much better overview of the book than i can but i would advise anyone to give it ago this really is not the sort of book i expected to enjoy but i am so pleased i gave it a go.

Was very disappointed with the second one in the series but this really was a great save to the series. You could easily read Homeworld and Starworld (without Wheelworld - which is a real disappointing)
