AmazonBasics Bluetooth Audio Receiver
AmazonBasics Bluetooth Audio Receiver
Price: £21.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Needs an auto standby feature., 30 Jan. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Does as described and easy to set up and use. Like the fact when bluetooth is switched on my devices this product is automatically connected with no faffing about, unlike other similar products whereby connecting is far more complicated than it needs to be.

The constant blue light is un-necessary when plugged into the mains. Why is there no auto standby feature?

They're plastic and not wood as advertised.

They're OK - nothing spectaculer. The timer function works as described, but don't see the need for it to be honest.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good CD and service, 8 April 2015

Another cool album from JJ Grey & Mofro. As expected.

First CD arrived in time, but had a flaw so the final few tracks wouldn't play. Not the sellers fault as obviously a manufacturing problem.

Contacted the seller and they sent a replacement no problem.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not for us., 8 April 2015

Whilst one of our two cats eats this, it has little effect on him. The second cat isn't interested in even sniffing it, but has enjoyed previous brands of catnip.

Lots of twigs in this.

I wouldn't describe it as the "best" as our cats aren't fussed by it. As ever, it's about "personal" taste I suppose - from the reviews other cats love it, whereas some patently don't.

"Gentlemen start your engines."

If you can't see Thorogood live, then this is the next best thing.

But do yourself a favour and go see him live when he's next in your neighbourhood. You will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Will appeal to cider drinkers who like something different, 1 Mar. 2015

Want to try something new? Then check this out - my current fave drink.

Will appeal to cider drinkers who like something different, and this delivers on the ginger front!

Also don't forget to pick up one of the official Jeremiah Weed drinking glasses, fashioned from a jam jar. It's the only thing to drink Root Brew out of.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good bit of kit - does what it says it ..., 1 Mar. 2015
Good bit of kit - does what it says it should.

I have 2 units attached to 2 separate hi-fi's - on different floors of the house. Both work well independently when one is switched on and the other is off.

But I can't switch from one unit to another when both units are switched on simultaneously. I can't "swap" between the two bluetooth connections that are displayed in my bluetooth connections and the device I'm using always wants to connect to the unit that is on a different floor! So I have to keep one unit switched off at all times and keep reconnecting to it to get it to work.

Is there a simple way of swapping between the units when both switched on, using whatever device I have connected to them via bluetooth at the time?

5.0 out of 5 stars Where have I been?, 25 Jun. 2014

Mulvey has been recording and touring for the past 20+ years and whilst his music has mostly passed me by, my fellow writers at Americana UK hold him in great stead, so I’d better be spot on with this review. You don’t want to get on the wrong side of some of those guys.

As you’d expect from a performer and songwriter with such a pedigree, this is his 18th (dependent on whose stats you believe) album, and Mulvey has played with the great and the good of the folk and Americana scene that includes Emmylou Harris, Richard Thompson, Greg Brown plus numerous others and he’s recruited Chuck Prophet to play guitar and produce this album. I have an interesting story I could relay at this time about my brief encounter with Prophet at one of his gigs at The Borderline many years ago, but I shall park it for now; you can read all about it when I release my autobiography.

As an artist Mulvey isn’t just interested in producing music and touring in support of the latest release, although he does spend a lot of time on the road away from his native Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but when at home he hosts his annual “In the Round” gigs and he also does an annual Autumn tour entirely on a bicycle, and teaches guitar and song-writing across the US. Presumably whilst not travelling there on his bike!

Funded by his supporters via the Kickstarter site and raising three times more than his original target, ‘Silver Ladder’ doesn’t disappoint. If, like me, you’d heard of Mulvey but didn’t know what to expect, but by some form of osmosis have realised that you don’t get to last as long as he has in the music biz, without having the relevant musical chops and chutzpah, then it shouldn’t come as any surprise that this album cuts the music mustard that will continue to garner him more fans around the world.

‘Lies You Forgot You Told’ kicks the album off full of confidence and probably refers to the turbulent part of his life he’s recently emerged from; and the details of that episode are unclear, but there may be a clue in the title. ‘You Don’t Have To Tell Me’ bounces along with the “I Already Know” response in the refrain. Track three ‘Sympathies’ continues in the same up-tempo anthemic vein and explores the loyalties of an un-named individual.

For the past year, Mulvey committed himself to writing one song a week and they came flooding out and he ended up with more than enough for 'Silver Ladder'. Presumably there are a few tucked away in preparation for his next outing? The slightly funky ‘What Else Was It?” lays down a cool groove that allows some subtle guitar playing from Prophet (or is it fellow Mission Express guitarist James DePrato?). ‘Trempealeau’ is a beautiful acoustic led love song that examines honesty and I assume refers to the Wisconsin vacation spot, whereby perhaps love ended? Nickel Creek’s Sara Watkins accompanies Mulvey on ‘Where Did You Go?’ and whilst it’s a good enough song, there’s something about it that doesn’t engage these ears. ‘Copenhagen Airport’ is a seemingly a swampy tinged guitar instrumental groove, until he repeats the simple two lines of lyric midway through.

The final two tracks don’t do it for me. ‘If You Shout At A King You Must Kill Him’ clogs up this fine album and is quickly followed up by the conclusion of that song with ‘Landfall’, which leaves this listener with a sense of disappointment. But overall. this album is a triumph and is released on 31 March 2014 and he’s supporting it with a UK and Ireland tour (but of course) playing intimate venues and I suggest you check both of them out.
