3.0 out of 5 stars A little outdated, 11 Jan. 2010
This is a little outdated in its coverage of Monty and feels and reads old.

Traveling with the Saints in Italy: Contemporary Pilgrimages on Ancient Paths
Traveling with the Saints in Italy: Contemporary Pilgrimages on Ancient Paths
by Lucinda Vardey
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars Travellers Aid, 2 Oct. 2009
Bought this book as I was travelling to Ancona in Italy. This area of Italy is swamped with Saints and is a living testament to their lives. I used this book to explore Assisi and Loreto and the Flying Friar - St Joseph of Cupertino. The book brought me to little visited shrines and areas of La Marche. It was a great guide.

3.0 out of 5 stars light but good, 2 Oct. 2009
This is a different type of book. It relates to interviews conducted during the thirties with members of the armed forces. It provides a good spread of experiences and because the interviews took place while the events were still fresh in the minds of the people who were involved, it provides a realistic view. However, against this you must weigh that these were articles which were published in the press and hence could be a little "sanitized". Overall, light airport reading that can be dipped into and out of at will.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nurses at War, 6 May 2003
The detail in this story is extrodinary and extensive, spanning the entire First World War from the beginning to the end. It shows a different kind of War to that normally written and shows war at both its cruelist and its kindest. Indeed, both the British Tommy and his German counterpart show alot of compassion for each other , according to the Nurses reports. These reports are the result of verbal interviews conducted with the wounded men and officers and are covering both the Western Front and the near East and Turkish Campaigns. An excellent and interesting read.

Where to Ski and Snowboard: The Reuters Guide to the World's Best Winter Sports Resorts
Where to Ski and Snowboard: The Reuters Guide to the World's Best Winter Sports Resorts
by Chris Gill
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars skiing locations, 6 May 2003
This is the best book if you are considering a skiing holiday. Not only does it sort the resorts by type and height but it also recommends them according to your skiing ability. It contains a very useful guide on how to get to the resorts either by road, train or plane. Snow reliability guides are accurate. I have used this guide for the last three years and all its recommendations are true.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rhodesian memories, 20 Nov. 2001
This is a real read! How Mr Godwin remembered all the stuff from his childhood beats me but he has put it together in a very readable format. I brought this book on holiday and never lifted my head. He gives a very good perspective on Rhodesia as he grew up and developed into an adult. It is brutal in some aspects but is well balanced with nice touches of family life. The Author is not bitter even though he lost his sister during the War and he has some good stories about Black and White relationships.

5.0 out of 5 stars Irish Winners of the Victoria Cross, 20 Nov. 2001
This is a fab read, showing the bravery and courage of Irish men down through the history of the Cross . Their stories are told in an intimate and detailed way, so much so that the reading of the book is a very emotional experience. These men were true heroes in every sense of the word.
