"The Smile of a Ghost", the 7th book in the Merrily Watkins series, is an enjoyable, athmospheric tale with just a little spookiness added to the mix. Loved it.

I loved this book. It was an enjoyable, gripping read. Alex Delaware and Milo Sturgis have been around a long time now, and never fail to impress me.

"The Cure of Souls" is the fourth book in the Merrily Watkins series, which is proving to be more than just a flash-in-the-pan series. In Cure Merrily finds herself in the Frome Valley having been asked to exorcise a hop kiln. Things don't go well however, and she soon finds herself in the middle of a murder enquiry.
It's not all doom and gloom in the Watkins household however as Merrily and daughter Jane find themselves moving to the next level in their respective relationships. Could Merrily be about to settle down? We shall have to wait and see.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down., 30 Nov 2013

As with the previous Charlie Parker Books "The White Road" was so gripping I just couldn't put it down. Connolly is on to a winner with this series. The Parker books have it all; Crime, supernatural undertones, humour and characters that this reader cares about. Loved it.

Once again John Connolly has brought us a crime thriller that is downright chilling. Mr Pudd is my nightmare personfied owing to his taste in pets. Chills aside I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Charlie Parker is my favourite P.I. and long may he reign.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark, but oh so Good!, 30 Nov 2013

"Dark Hollow" is the second book in the Charlie Parker series. It is far darker than it's predecessor, though the humour is still there in the interaction between Parker and his friends. When it comes to blending crime and supernatural John Connolly is King.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Brilliant!, 30 Nov 2013

"Cockroaches" is the second Harry Hole novel. The action this time moves to Bangkok where Harry is sent to investigate the murder of the Norwegian Ambassador. He finds his investigation hampered by those in authority back in Oslo, but Harry is not one to bow to authority. He may be an alcoholic but Hole is a fine detective.
I really enjoyed this book. As with "The Bat" it gives a great insight into Harry Hole's early days. One need not have read the other books in the series, in fact "Cockroaches" can be read as a stand alone, but it would be a shame to miss out on a great series.
I would recommend "Cockroaches". It is simply brilliant.

The Safe Man: A Ghost Story
The Safe Man: A Ghost Story

3.0 out of 5 stars Too Short., 28 Nov 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
"The Safe Man" is a ghost story by Michael Connelly, better known for his Harry Bosch and Mickey Haller series. It started off well but ended rather abruptly. It was far too short, just 39% of the kindle edition. The remainder of the book was taken up with a preview of one of Connelly's full-length novels. Disappointing.

Three more great short stories featuring Harry Bosch. Thoroughly enjoyed them. My only problem is that, once again, 30% of the book was taken up with a preview of one of the full length Bosch novels.
