2.0 out of 5 stars Not nearly enough new info, 7 Jan. 2010
A lot of speculation, but surprisingly litte new information. If you are interested in hard facts and sordid details, look elsewhere. If all you want is a well-written and fairly entertaining compendium of all the gossip surrounding Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, then this is the book for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the best seasons, 20 Sept. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Season 6 is one of the best of the series and highly dramatic: drug addiction, accidents, murder, a wedding, - and Dylan leaving for good, this and much more can be found here. The sound quality is good, the picture quality - probably due to the age of the material - is just average (a lot of grain), but all in all a worthy addition to anybody's 90's TV collection. Not so sure about the packaging though
(7 discs crammed into a small box). No extras.

4.0 out of 5 stars Terrific movie, not everyone's cup of tea, 5 July 2009
This review is from: Last Days [DVD] (DVD)
Caution! "Last Days" is a movie that a lot of people will probably find boring, especially those who expect a saucy tale about the circumstances leading to Kurt Cobain's demise. This movie takes its time, is arty, quiet, a character study, depicting the banal and often boring home life of a rock star. The athmosphere is melancholy, and nothing much happens - just like in real life. Michael Pitt is great as the doomed rock star, and "Last Days" is pretty much a one-man show. Cinematography is top-notch, the music fits perfectly.
If you are willing to spend 90 minutes in the lonely and self-destructive world of a man who could be Kurt C. and happen to like esotheric overtones and the blues, this could be the right movie for you.
I was pleasantly surprised that "Last Days" doesn't have the least bit of sensationalism about it as could be expected considering its theme.

4.0 out of 5 stars Old school slasher, great "fun", 25 May 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Laid To Rest [2008] [DVD] (DVD)
"Laid to rest" is an 80s style, no-nonsense slasher with a cool killer and enough blood to satisfy every gore-hound. The kills are surprisingly innovative and nicely shot, story and motivation are of no importance here. No "Saw"-like puzzles or torture porn to be found here. Just good ol' slashing to hevy metal beats.
A cool indie gem that deserves a place in every self-respecting horror fan's collection.

The Seven Days of Peter Crumb
The Seven Days of Peter Crumb
by Jonny Glynn
Edition: Paperback

3.0 out of 5 stars Could have been better, 16 May 2009
Don't be fooled by the constant comparisons. "The seven days.." is NO "American Psycho". More troubled than brutal - and not as witty as it would like to be - Jonny Glynn's debut novel lacks the dark humor, the strange fascination and the obsessive descriptions of Ellis' finest, and the main character is no Bateman.
Although the book starts out promisingly, presenting us with a rather likeable Peter Crumb, it all deteriorates in the second half. To much whining and over-analyzing make it hard to follow, and the hero's actions become less and less understandable. The Jeckyll/Hyde-style schizophrenia doesn't help much either, because it puts a distance between the reader and the narrating hero. And the acts of violence pop up rather arbitrarily; it almost seems as if the author was required to put in a certain number of murders.
As a comment on modern society it puts its finger in some wounds (so to speak)but is not as cynical and to the point as the best of them.
All in all a pretty decent first outing by a talented writer, but not as good as it could have been.

3.0 out of 5 stars Notorious but not so great nasty, 8 April 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
"Night Train Murders", original title "L'Ultimo Treno della Notte", is the earliest example of the "Last House on the Left" copycat phenomenon. The film is an Italian exploitation remake of "Last House..." and copies the basic storyline of Craven's original with one crucial difference: the first half takes place on a moving train.

The set-up: two school-girls are traveling home by train from Munichto Italy to spend the christmas holiday's with their parents. On their way they run into two young punks on their flight from the scene of a misdemeanor and a nameless, decadent "Lady On The Train". In a compartment on the "Last Train Of The Night" (literal translation of the original title) things take a turn for the worse for the two girls, culminating in the films most famous and notorious scene as one of the girls gets raped with a knife.

While the scenes on the train are quite intense and nerve-wracking, the movie as a whole lacks the psychological impact, subversive engery as well as the sense of humour and the inimitable style of Craven's movie.
Features one of the least inpired scores by the great Ennio Morricone.

For hardcore horror fans this first uncut release of one of the former video nasties is worth a purchase. Everyone else, stick with "Last House.."

4.0 out of 5 stars Great low-budget horror!, 7 April 2009
This review is from: Five Across The Eyes [DVD] (DVD)
If a constantly moving camera and spotty lighting a la "Blair Witch Project" do not make you sick, you should check out this little movie that was shot on DV for a couple of thousand dollars. It is one of the best independent horror films in years. The story is gripping, and the directors know how to create susppense, not to say terror.
Two major flaws prevent it from being a true masterpiece. First, an actress who is so bad that it is not even funny, she is just terrible, hysterical right from the start and with the same expression throughout the movie (she is said to be a last minute replacement). The second is the musical score which is way to loud and omnipresent, probably to drown out ambient noise created by the constantly moving cameramen and actresses. Apart from that, a very interesting debut by two real talents. just imagine what they could do with a bigger budget...
If you are willing to make a few concessions to the almost non-existent budget and approach this movie with an open mind you might just be agreeably surprised by this nasty little movie.

1.0 out of 5 stars A not so scary mess of a movie, 30 Mar. 2009
This review is from: Primeval Kill [DVD] (DVD)
"Primevil Kill" is supposed to be a creature feature about a killer crocodile. Or is it? Other reviewers compared it to "Anaconda", just with a crocodile instead of a giant snake. That is wrong. "Primevil Kill" is in fact a poorly written movie about a civil war somewhere in Africa, but the production company seems to have gotten scared and decided on throwing a man-eating crocodile into the mix. It simply doesn't work. There are too many subplots so most viewers will probably lose interest fairly quickly.

There are two main storylines: the civil war and the giant crocodile, and the crocodile part is not that bad. There are a couple of mildly entertaining action scenes, but, unfortunately, the crocodile looks like it was created at an animation workshop for beginners. The civil war part is a catastrophe and doesn't lead anywhere.

The pacing is terrible and the shaky camera is just annoying, it doesn't make the movie the least bit more interesting. The only positive aspects of this movie are the great pictures of the African landscape and the performance of Dominic Purcell.Other than that, "Primevil Kill" is just a waste of time.

If you are looking for a good killer crocodile movie, you will be disappointed, but if all you want nothing more than a nonsense action-thriller, this one is for you. Everyone else, don't bother.

4.0 out of 5 stars Overlooked noir gem, 25 Mar. 2009
This review is from: WaZ [DVD] (DVD)
"WDeltaZ" is the victim of bad marketing. Being compared to "Seven" and "Saw", it had to fail. And the slogan "Is this the most violent film ever?" suggests an orgy of violence and blood.

This is NOT one of the modern ultra-violent movies that try their best to gross you out. Admittedly, there are a few disturbing and gory scenes, but they are not in there for their own sake, they are necessary tools for clarifying characters and motivations.understanding of characters and motivations. "WDeltaZ" is a noir police film as well as a drama about guilt and redemption, or crime and punishment if you will, with a chilling atmosphere and great actors, all of whom are in fine form. There is just one aspect that prevents it from being or becoming a true classic of the genre - all the clues to solving the puzzle are given away in the first act, so that the rest of the movie boils down to just stopping the killer. Apart from that, it's thrilling entertainment.

If you are a fan of Stellan Skarsgard, Melissa George, or Selma Blair, you should seriously consider buying this underappreciated movie.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nonsense, action-packed ride, 22 Mar. 2009
This review is from: Doomsday [DVD] (DVD)
If you are interested in a plausible and original story, great acting and the like, look somewhere else. This movie is a purely nonsensical, hard- hitting action spectacle.
The storyline is taken from "Escape from New York", and a lot of scenes and characters seem to come straight out of "Mad Max" movies, "28 Days later", "The Warriors", and a number of others, but that does not necessarily have to be bad.
The trouble lies in putting together these different influences, thus creating a well-structured and interesting movie. It seems more like a medley or a collage than a solid piece of work. The exposition and the first half of the movie are great action cinema, but then it starts to go downhill, and what could have been an interesting retelling of "Escape from New York" in a different setting deteriorates to the level of "Escape from L.A.".
But not all is bad. "Doomsday" presents you with a tough and convincing heroine, a marvellously underacted villain, fantastic sets and cars. Not so sure about the knights, though.
A fun and entertaining movie as long as you don't think about it.
