3.0 out of 5 stars Ok, but very repetitive, 20 Jun 2010
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Alan Wake (Xbox 360) (Video Game)
Alan Wake is survival horror action adventure game (I guess).

The game for most part takes place in Bright Falls, with a few flashbacks from New York City.

Nice graphics and some interesting locations when you're not out in the woods.
The characters have a bit of depth to them and this adds to the story.

Extremely repetitive. Every level feels like the same walk through the woods.
The same enemies attack you all the time.
The graphic animations of the characters could have been a lot better.
Very little to challenge your brains as far as puzzles go.

After a while I found myself playing through the game more to just finish it, rather than because it was fun.

Buy it second hand, or when it's available cheap.

2.0 out of 5 stars Extremely predictable, 11 Mar 2010
Whether you see Dan Brown as a good or bad writer, I've found his books to be typical page turners. The Lost Symbol is not. I used a lost more time to read this book that what I normally would. It just got boring.

Biggest issue: Predictable. The second the idea of where the lost word (symbol) was presented, I knew exactly where it was, within no time I knew the twist regarding the bad guy, and as you understand the idea behind the Ancient Mysteries in the book, you also understand right away that the ending is going to be a let down. I believe most people reading The Lost Symbol will feel the same way. I'm glad I borrowed this book and saved my money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sad, scary, but brilliant, 25 July 2007
What makes Jesus Camp such a great documentary, is the fact that there is no specific for or against stance from the makers. It follows a series of events, some interviews, but there's no critical questioning of what happens. The fact that this "screams" anti-jesus camp (and religion for that matter) is all a result of what is portrayed. Betty Fischer comes off as a total fundamentalist, who manipulates and uses children for her cause to create a christian world (though I doubt that Jesus would be particularly happy with her approach). It is an eye opener with regard to the way children are exposed to religion. Small chrildren lying on the floor shaking it what is supposed to be a trance led on by faith, though it looks more like acting on the part of the child, trying to be part of the group (and probably believes they are experiencing something religious as well). Betty Fischer and her collegues seem to blame anything negative on the devil, resulting in one scene in a blessing of the projector (so it will not malfunction during the jesus camp presentation). Though rather comical, it is still incredibly sad, especially when we see her later on chanting "this means war", and "are you in or are you out" (or something to that effect. Can't remember exactly right off the bat).

It is a strong message to the world that religion is something that should be personal, and not forced on children before they can make up their minds on their own. I continue to be shocked by the need to believe in something other than oneself, and can only recommend people to take the time to read Richard Dawkins, as well as do a search online on him. His documentary "the root of all evil" should be mandatory in all schools.

Watch Jesus Camp. You'll be angry afterwards, but it's important to see how religious groups and people (and I don't mean everyone of course, but some) abuse children in the name of jesus and god.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Chili Pepper so far :), 7 Jan 2007
This review is from: Stadium Arcadium (Audio CD)
This is, in my opinion, the best Chili Pepper record so far. First of all, it's a double, and the fact that every song is great makes it fantastic. The biggest difference from previous records I think is John's playing. Being a master of simplistic riffs, it's amazing to experience what a varied guitar player he is when listening to Stadium Arcadium. There's a whole new side to him here, and I love it.

Someone says something about comedy funk in a review here. Well, if that's your experience, I can't change that, but it's not what I hear. There certainly are a few fast numbers, but nothing I would label comedy funk (though "...but you're walking like a sourcrout" always make me laugh" :) If anything, I think Anthony's lyrics are as honest as ever, and as great as ever. It's not supposed to be an open book. He wrote what he felt, and if a lyric and a song brings forth feelings in you as well, great. If they're not the same as his, so what?

Flea's bass playing doesn't really need mentioning, and Chad's as great as ever.

As they always have, the Chili Peppers make me feel good about being alive, and being fortunate enought to be here, for however long it is. Whether it's a sad, angry, crazy or happy song, listening to them always leaves me with a good feeling, and if you can do that to people, you've done great. This record is no exception in that department. I've had it since it came out, and I still can't get enough of it.

Though more or less impossible, here are a few favorites:

She's only 18, Slow Cheeta, Wet Sand, Hey (fantastic lyrics and melody), Desecration Smile, She Looks To Me, We believe, Turn It again, and Death Of A Martian (a song about Flea's dog).

These and all the ones I've forgotten as well as the rest of the album (I guess that means all of them) are pure quality. They just keep getting better :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny, Crazy Book, 19 Jun 2005
This review is from: The Cocka Hola Company (Paperback)
I just read this book, and it's just plain crazy. The action takes place in Norway, and involves the events of a few days in the lives the owners and partners of a pornmovie production company. We meet an array of different characters, from the actors Casco and Tiptop, to the total maniac Simpel, who's addicted to xanax to controll his temper, mainly fueled by everyone and everything, and especially his son Lonyl, a seven year old with absolutely no concept of normal behavior. Lonyl's day revolves around tagging the walls at school, at home, at anywhere (and the TV at home), and jumping 18.000 times in the coach from the moment he gets home, until it's bedtime.
Another charachter is Speedo, a man with a signed contract between himself the Desirevolutions (the pornmovie company) to become an alcoholic within three years.
It's difficult to the describe all that is happening in this book. It's about 450 pages, and I read it in two days. Suffice to say, it kept me entertained all the way, and often had me laughing at loud.

5.0 out of 5 stars Links 2004 - Great Game, 21 May 2004
This review is from: Links 2004 (Video Game)
This is a great game. It has the best graphics I've seen in any golf game so far.
There are 9 courses to play (1 fantasy course), and they all look great. Also, if you've got xbox live, you can download additional courses. Also, you can join tournaments, or start your own and play with people worldwide if you like, or just play along with some friends if you like.
It's also a great single player game, with the possibility to play tournaments on several tours, or play a single round of strokeplay, stableford, skins or matchplay (many others as well).
A great feature is that you have 3 difficulty levels. This is great since it keeps the game alive a lot longer.
The nicknames you pick for you player pretty much suck, though, but it doesn't really matter.
Compared to Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004, it's quite similar. It doesn't have as many courses available, but the courses you have look a lot better. Also the fade/draw option and spin control is a bit different. Everything is done ahead of the shot, so you can't manipulate the shot after the stroke. This adds a lot more realism to the game.
Customizing your player is a lot more simplistic than in TW 2004, so the players aren't that personal. Also, the swing animations are a bit better in TW. Otherwise, there's nothing to complain about.
Anyway, it's a great game. If you're looking for lots of courses to play, go for TW 2004. That game gets very easy, way too fast, though.
If you're looking for superb graphics, and somewhat more of a challange, go for Links 2004.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great golf dvd, 11 May 2004
This dvd is great. I have seen at least four of leadbetter's video's (noe dvd's), and this is one is so much better.
First of all, Simon Holmes is a great teacher. Unlike most instructional guides, he is not interested in teacing you "the perfect and only correct way to swing" or something like that. What he does is tell what the different parts of your swing motion do, and explains why you should try to put the to use. Basically he gives drills and tips that are easy to understand and to learn.
The dvd consists of four parts. The swing (also a small section for the driver, and of course the fade and the draw), the chip (three different chip shots here), the bunker and putting. These parts are again devided into several parts, making it easy to look back on certain areas of interest right away. This is very helpful.
There are also easy drills for curing slicing and hooking.
The only things that are not covered are medium to long putts. Some might also miss the pitch shot, but you can easily use the other techniques in the dvd to understand this shot.
This is without a doubt one of the best interactive golf instructions you can get. You won't be dissapointed.

3.0 out of 5 stars What a f...... waste...., 5 Mar 2004
Doesn't sound good, does it!?! Don't get me wrong. In many ways this game is great. It's got some of finest grahpics I've ever seen on the xbox, and the gameplay is superb.
The prince can do all sorts of acrobatics, not to mention running along the walls.
Of course there's the ability to alter time, even rewind it if you like. This really comes in handy during the game, because you ARE going to fall down from ledges and get killed by various traps and enemies a lot.
Now, why only 3 stars, and not 5 like everyone else? For one, many of the puzzles in the game really aren't that hard to figure out. So what do we do? The solution is to add lots of enemies. So basically instead of challenging our brains somewhat more, we are dependent of luck. Because you are going to end up in situations where you are attacked by 30-50 enemies I'm sure. Having 3 or 4 of them hacking you to pieces (even while you're lying down) gets old really fast. Believe me. This is even more "fun" when you in addition to keeping yourself alive, are dependent on keeping Farah (a mysterious girl with a bow and arrows that help you out along the game) alive as well. She pretty much dies if the enemy even looks at her. Imagine how much fun that is when you're facing a hundred foes.
Too bad. This game is great in so many aspects. The fact that it's been hyped so much seems make everyone scared of giving it less than 5 stars. It's no 5. Sorry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Golf Game, 13 Feb 2004
Now this is one hell of golf game. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 has a lot to offer the player.
One of the really fun aspects of the game is the possibility to modify your golfer to look like yourself. I suppose it makes the whole experience somewhat more personal.
Different types of playmodes include:
- PGA season where you can follow your golfer through 10 pga seasons.
- World Tour where you play various rounds of match play (anything from 9 to 18 holes) against both wellknown golfers like Tiger and John Daly, to made up charachters.
Other modes are regular match- and strokeplay, stableford and practice. Also there are modes like the SkillZone where you aim for various targets earning money per hit, Speedgolf and battlegolf, where you play a type of matchplay to take away your opponents clubs.
There are more as well.
You can improve your golfer's skills in the proshop, as well buy new equipment and clothes. This also has an effect on your golfer's abilities. What equipment you use also bring money into you pocket if your choice of brands are your sponsors.
There are lots of courses in this game. Both real and made up. Some of them are St. Andrews, Royal Birkdale, Pinehurs #2, Poppy Hills, Princeville Resort and Bayhill club. The last time I counted the courses it was 21 + a random 18 hole course, so you get the picture. Also, you can make two additional courses yourself from scratch if you like, and add them to the rest of the game's courses.
Gameplay is simple. You use your left or right thumbstick to swing the club, and can also add spin and fade or draw to your shot. Shooting a fade and a draw is a bit harder on this game compared to other games I've tried, which I like. It should be a bit of a challange.
The game does get a little easy after a little while, but you can modify aspects of the weather, greens and rough along with your aiming to make things more challanging.
The graphics are great. Nice flow. I must admit that I do like the graphics in Links 2004 better, but it's not enough to give this game less than 5 stars. It's great.
If you like golfgames, or want to try one, get Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004. You'll get lots and lots of courses, great gameplay, and lots of different gamemodes to try. It's great fun!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Pearl Jam - Live at the Garden, 4 Feb 2004
First of all I have to say that I love Pearl Jam. They're the GREATEST BAND.
Like any PJ show, this one offers a wide variety of songs from their catalog. In addition, there are some extra numbers here.
The reason that I'm only giving this one 4 stars, is because of the choice of the camera angle during the show. It's just incredibly boring. Not enough variety. For the most part you only see one, sometimes maybe two om the bandmembers at the time. Somehow the whole show loses some of its magic.
On "Touring Band", where you also get to see the whole band together during the songs feels a lot better.
Everyting else is great. Shame about the filming, that's all.
