4.0 out of 5 stars Something different for an adventurous reader, 7 Feb. 2014

I chose this book for a multi-academy Year 6 book club. The boys who enjoyed it most were those who enjoyed the outdoors; cubs and scouts, those who had been camping with their families, etc. They enjoyed the fast pace, sense of danger, relationship with nature and the abrupt ending. They loved discussing the book and thinking about what might happen next, and most were keen to go back to their schools and tell others about it. This seemed to be a bit of a Marmite book: some couldn't put it down and others struggled with the language but all enjoyed the plot.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable read, 21 July 2013

Lots of difficult emotions and ideas dealt with sensitively, sensibly and without rancour. I enjoyed this book - I'd not heard of this author but was interested by the blurb, and I'm glad I tried it. Is the ending a little too perfect, I wonder?!

It took me a little while to get into this book, but once I did I couldn't stop reading! Lots going on all the time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly enjoyable sequel, 5 July 2013

Sometimes sequels are disappointing and don`t live up to expectations. Not so with The Hidden Relic. It was fast-paced and engaging; one of those books where you find excuses to read a few more pages when you really should boring something else!

4.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable and refreshingly unusual read, 24 May 2013

The beginning of the book was amusing, and inviting the reader to write their own ending was inspired - and a good way to encourage creativity amongst young readers.

3.0 out of 5 stars Predictable but enjoyable, 7 April 2013

A gentle tale of overcoming adversity. A little over-sermonising in the later stages but still enjoyable to read. Easy reading.
