4.0 out of 5 stars This is really good!, 18 Dec 2010
This review is from: Rock Live (Audio CD)
There are so many live compilations out, which are of inferior quality: in sound, songs and artists. This compilation has excellent live performances of great artists and has many great songs also. The sound is great: it has been remastered, which isn't written anywhere, but you can hear it.
Also nicely done is that in between the songs there isn't a break: the applause goes on and the next song starts.

For example: CD1 is really brilliant. This version of Child in Time (over 12 minutes) is fantastic, also the long version of Radar love (over 11 minutes). What a guitar solo's! The disc finishes of with Roxy Music and the Talking Heads: one of the best live songs ever, Psycho Killer.

I would buy this, if you love really good live rocksongs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Rock Album of 2010?, 18 Mar 2010
This review is from: Beat The Devil's Tattoo (Audio CD)
When you mix the best of all the other albums of the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and put a little Kasabian, Oasis & U2 in it: then you get Beat The Devil's Tattoo.

What a fantastic rock music is put on this album. Pure Rock 'N Roll in all it's beauty! There are also some slower songs. I think those are even better then the ones on Howl, the more acoustic and slower album of the BRMC.

Also important for a really great album are the songs and there are some really fantastic songs on this album. Consience Killer is a real rock killer, Mama Taught Me Better has a great 'Kasabian' beat and the Toll is a beautiful country ballad. If you love Oasis then play Shadow's Keeper very very loud! There are really no fillers on an album with 15 songs.

This album might be the best rock album of 2010. If you buy it, buy the version with the bonus tracks 1:51 & Martyr: those are great songs too, don't miss them.

1.0 out of 5 stars He just walked away...., 21 Jan 2010
I was there, not in the O2 Arena, but in the Ahoy Arena in Rotterdam. Kings of Leon are a great live band and for some time we could hear and see that. It was very hot: more then a 30 degrees celsius. Caleb Followill was from the beginning in a bad mood. He did find that the public should be more enthusiatic. We thought that normally the band should play like hell and then get us in a great mood. He was really calling his public names. After someone throw some beer on stage, Caleb went away, leaving 10.000 spectators and the rest of the band behind. They just played for 1 hour. And what happened? He never returned, the arrogant .... singer. This is why Kings of Leon aren't that popular anymore in Holland. This is why I can only give 1 star to the concert dvd of this tour. It's a sad thing. I saw more then 100 concerts, but never ever saw this happening.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Original At All, 17 Dec 2009
This review is from: Dad Rocks! (2009) (Audio CD)
The second cd of Dad Rocks! 2008 was rather original. Most of the songs you didn't find on many other Rock compilations. This time you get 3 cd's, so I hoped to find other great songs I don't have. But on this box I'm afraid they managed to put it full with songs, which are allready on many other Rockcompilations.

There are so many good rocksongs, why do they choose always the same songs? Are these songs cheaper for the record company? Do they think only these songs sell well....?

If your dad already has some rockcompilations: don't buy this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Boxset with quality Indie & Alternative music!, 12 Sep 2009
This is it! You really get 6 cd's with top artists from the Indie / Alternative musicscene. There is Interpol, Doves, Bat for Lashes, Placebo, Coldplay, The Magic Numbers, Athlete, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Babyshambles, Badly Drawn Boy and many many more. Also they chose really good songs from all these artists. And there are less known artists with good songs I didn't know.

This is really a great and amazing 6 cd box. It's far better in quality terms then the other Original Hits Boxes (except maybe the 80 12" Box). Don't miss this box with over 7 hours of quality alternative music for a great price!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Performance, 4 July 2009
Shame, shame, shame on the reviewers who rewarded this Michael Jackson Bad dvd with low rates, just because the quality of the picture isn't excellent. So what?
Ok, it looks like a VHS Tape, but what do you see? Michael Jackson at his peak, at his very very best. Also: it's filmed really well and the Dolby Surround Stereo Sound is good. What a fantastic performance it is. His first solo tour and you can see that. He smiles a lot and enjoys doing this show. It's if you're looking at a miracle: that guy can dance and sing. It's fantastic!
Also fantastic is the tracklist: many songs of Off the Wall & Thriller and also 3 Jackson 5 Songs and a Jacksons song.
I saw this Bad Show in De Kuip in Rotterdam in 1988. It's magic to see it back.

3.0 out of 5 stars The other Warchild albums are better!, 8 Mar 2009
This review is from: Warchild: Hope (Audio CD)
The Warchild albums are normally on a high standard. This is the one that isn't. Only half of the tracks are really good or great: Travis, Beverly Knight, Moby, New Order and the Charlatans play songs on a level you should expect. Really awful contributions are there from Paul McCartney (?!), David Bowie (?!), Ronan Keating, Lee Ryan and Tom McRae.
Have a look at the other Warchild albums, like the new Heroes album. There are really many great contributions from bands and singers. This album gets only 2,5* from me.

5.0 out of 5 stars CD Two is great!, 23 Feb 2009
This review is from: Brit Awards 2009 (Audio CD)
I've got a lot of indie / rock compilations, but the 2nd disc of the Brit Awards 2009 is really great. You got outstanding tracks of Kings of Leon, Coldplay, Oasis, Kaiser Chiefs, MGMT, Fleet Foxes, Radiohead, The Last Shadow Puppets, Elbow & the Foo Fighters on 1 disc. The other tracks aren't that bad either, like some songs on cd 1. Don't miss it and play it loud!

2.0 out of 5 stars What is this?, 24 Dec 2008
This review is from: At The Apollo [2008] [DVD] (DVD)
First of all: I'm a huge Arctic Monkeys fan and have been to 3 live shows in clubs. They play fantastic and energetic and there's always a magnificent atmosphere.

Did they capture this with this concert film? Not at all!!
First of all: the sound is really awfull. Don't even try the 5.1 mix: it's not balanced at all (Alex Turner's voice is too soft for example) and you don't come near the feeling that you are there.

There are only a few views from the audience and you can hardly hear them. It's more like they play in their own basement. That's also the reason that I gave it still 2 stars: it still are the Arctic Monkeys, with many great songs and in this concert with some nice performances.
Put it in stereo on your headphones: that will work.
