3.0 out of 5 stars Easy reading and fun, 6 May 2013
I really enjoyed reading this, but found the ending a little too predictable. The characters were well constructed and the main protagonist did her job in eliciting the reader's sympathies throughout.

2.0 out of 5 stars Sadly Disappointing, 9 April 2013
This review is from: Fruit of the Lemon (Paperback)
After Small Island I was looking forward to reading another novel by Andrea Levy, but as the title of this review points out I was "sadly disappointed".

The protagonist ambles along through life with no real opinions and ideas of who she is and then goes back to her roots in Jamaica for some enlightenment. The premise is good and sounds as though it will be much better than it actually is.

Sloppily written and boring to read. Can't be bothered to choose a more sophisticated adjective than that. Boring!

1.0 out of 5 stars Just an excuse to sell more chic lit, 21 Mar 2012
This book shamelessly pretends to be about an autistic child, but in reality this is just a ploy to sell a novel about a single woman in her mid thirties shagging around to find "Mr Right". The middle section was so mind-numbing that I flicked through most of it. The writing style insults the reader's intelligence.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality Clock, 25 Oct 2011
This clock quickly fell apart and stopped working after a fortnight, much to the enormous disappointment of our giraffe-mad daughter!

1.0 out of 5 stars Over-rated tosh!, 14 Aug 2011
This review is from: One Day (Paperback)
This book was so appallingly dull that I had to stop reading it. The two main characters are flat and vacuous. I felt myself wondering who would care about their pretentious and uneventful lives. The writing style was not engaging at all. It seemed as though the book had been written as a script for some naff half-hearted sitcom rather than as a novel in which nothing really happens.

This guy obviously has an excellent agent who, even now, is promoting this utter pile of tosh!
