Greatest Hits from the Greatest Band, 23 Nov. 2001
In releasing a greatest hits CD, you are normally faced with a compilation of tracks made up of all your old CDs which you're ran out obediently and brought on the first day of release. The Smashing Pumpkins however, have decided to pay back their fans for a decade's worth of love and adoration by adding to this the remarkable "Judas-O" cd, a collection of b-sides and rarities from the recesses of their back-catalogue and adore / machina sessions.
Listening to the collection, you feel as if you're listening to a proper album rather than a pre-Crimbo money grabber, as we're treated to everything from the heart-felt, to the ear-bleeding in a way which commands your attention at all times. Classics such as "Disarm", "Today" and the epic "Tonight Tonight" are all inclusive, although it is the tracks on Judas O which should be watched out for with equally hungry ears as they take us through a musical wonderland, delivering us to places such as "My Mistake" and "Soot and Stars".
One of things which such an array of intense musical imagination from Billy and co show us is how at all times over the last ten or so years, The Smashing Pumpkins have always been at the cutting edge of the new-musical revolution as they transformed and transcended from art-grunge rockers to borderline goth electro-static musical artists...
