3.0 out of 5 stars Poor quality discs?, 9 May 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Ignoring the quality of the series itself (it's Star Trek with all the quirks it entails) I was very happy with the box set. It's compact and complete, perfect for my limited space requirements.

However one disc in the first season would not play properly. I skipped the episode that was faulty and carried on watching anyway. Then in season 5 I have found another disc that skips. The disc itself looks perfect, no scratches or smudges, but the final 10 minutes of one episode just refuses to play in any DVD player. As such I have returned it and had the set replaced.

It's not a HUGE issue. Out of 50 odd DVDs I have had two discs that skip 60 minutes of content, however being 50 discs if there are any issues you won't notice the errors until weeks, months or even years after you have bought the set when you finally reach a faulty episode at which point it will probably be too late to get fixed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, 2 Sep 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I bought this expecting some 3rd rate game that used outdated graphics developed by a hack developer who makes his living abusing IP laws.

Boy was I wrong. The first shock came when I loaded up the game after the brief instalation to find stunning imagery. Seriously, the quality of the intro and menu was amazing, it looked like some form of modern art that was so beautiful I threw myself to my knees in wonder. I now understand how the Pope feels when he stares into the face of god!

Anyway, after wiping the tears of joy from my eyes and started up the game. I was expecting text adventure style gameplay, with 3 or 4 locations. Boy was I wrong again! The gameplay was graphical, with real colours and polygons! And not just 3 locations to visit, but numerous ones! All of which could be explored!

Thwe writing was also superb, with a name like "Mythora" I was expecting a 14 years old sci-fi setting, but in fact this game has supplanted both Dune (by Frank Herbert) and A Tale of Two Cities as the greatest writing I have ever had the joy to experience.

Currently I am only 4 minutes into the game, but I was so overwhelmed I just had to let the world know.

Throw your Uncharted 2s, your Starcraft 2 and World of Warcraft CD's in the bin. This is the future of gaming, and I am trully blessed to have experienced it.

Fallen Dragon
Fallen Dragon
by Peter F. Hamilton
Edition: Hardcover

4.0 out of 5 stars Typical Hamilton, 6 July 2002
This review is from: Fallen Dragon (Hardcover)
I am a great fan of all Hamiltons books, howver I am getting annoyed with the same problems recurring in all his novels, notably the same plots and ideas being repeated in every one of his works and the usual trite happy ending..

On its own, ignoring his other books, I'd definitely give this five out of five, however this book feels like Hamilton took the best ideas out of the nights dawn trilogy, the Greg Mandel novels and his short stories and created one superb if derivitave novel.

Despite all this I was tempted to give this 5 stars as I enjoyed it so much, but then after contemplating what I'd read for a few days I dropped the score down to 4. If you've read his other books borrow this one, if you are new to Hamilton you should already be clicking the "add to basket button."

Wellington
Wellington

4.0 out of 5 stars Accessible yet comprehensive, 11 Jun 2002
This review is from: Wellington (Paperback)
Wellington is an enigmatic figure in British history, both revered for his military talent and critisized for his unapproachability.

In this book you are shown his life from India onwards (the book deals with his earlier life but not in great detail.) The book seeks to explain Wellington in a variety of fields, from his military genius to his political life but fals down in several areas, mostly due to the fact the certain areas of his life are glossed over and then a whole chapter devoted to a short episode.

Despite this, the book is very impressive and is a joy to read, if a little unfulfilling in the long term.

The One Tree (The Second Chronicles of Thomas Covenant) (2)
The One Tree (The Second Chronicles of Thomas Covenant) (2)

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, 13 Sep 2001
Donaldson just appears to get better and better as he continues to write. This, the second book in the Second Chronicles follows Covenant as he leaves the Land in search of outside help, a disconcerting read at first as you leave the comforting vistas of the land, but the book soon benefits from the vastly increased setting and you begin to appreciate the genius in the world that donaldson has created outside of the known Land.

A must read for any Fantasy fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes you want to jump., 13 Sep 2001
This review is from: Restless & Best (Audio CD)
This is probably my favourite of all teh Accept albums. It is a compilation of most of their greatest songs, ranging from the anthemic "I'm a Rebel" to the pure heavy rock stylings of "Fast as a Shark". All in all this is a must have for any true metal fan, and album that will truly take you back to the golden age of rock in the 80's
