5.0 out of 5 stars Chevaliers De Sangreal, 10 Mar. 2015
This review is from: The Da Vinci Code (Audio CD)
An amazingly rich and atmospheric soundtrack by one of the greats, but especially Chevaliers De Sangreal, which to my ears might be the most perfect piece of music ever composed... and perfectly suits the section of the movie it accompanies too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better and better, 20 Feb. 2015
It doesn't happen often. The list would be short: Tree of life, Fight Club, The Matrix, There Will Be Blood, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Mullholland Drive, Requiem for a Dream. Maybe a few more, but not many. These movies that are so good you actually sit there thinking "I can't wait to watch this again". Interstellar is one such movie. More than any other Nolan movie their is schmaltz, but in a good way. Sci-Fi can be very cold and/or very cheesy, but this dodges both bullets with layered storylines, some of the most amazing visuals put to film and a lovely score to match. The acting is great (though comparatively Mr. Caine was a bit hammy), and the story is cleverly thought out and weaves nicely in and out of time zones and dimensions. Can't wait to see what Mr Nolan does next.

Oliver Jeffers is a man of many talents - I can't decide whether I like his fine art or story books more, both are mixed media marvels, loads of ideas and loads of fun - in the best sense possible. This book is my favourite by him, great story about greed, knowledge and youthful reading with a great dye cut towards the end. Highly recommended.

If you love fashion photography, you know of Nick Knight. One of the most infuential of recent times, he pushes the boundaries and has amazing technique, very creative without being OTT. Plus that cover image is one of my favourites of all time!

Great work. Great artist. Great book... comprehensive. And nicely designed to let the work be the focal point.

Really?

I don't often feel strong enough to right a negative review but this was derivative (Pan's Labyrinth and LOTR) to the point of distraction, and Angie can't deliver a battle speech at all - and I like her. Sam Riley was fun but his character was derivative of Matthew in Sandman... felt like a wasted opportunity to me. Great idea, and Angie looked great too.

5.0 out of 5 stars no plot!, 11 Sept. 2014
This review is from: The Master [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
I get what most people are saying, and completely understand why they say it. But that's why I loved The Master - it literally is a character study of Quell and Master and their relationship. That's all. Where, what, who, and how are basically left by the wayside as you get a glimpse of both men's lives. Phoenix's performance was probably one of my favourites. Hoffman's too. They carry the film because they are the film.

3.0 out of 5 stars Wasted opportunity?, 24 Aug. 2012
I love Nolan's movies. By comparison to most (if not all) blockbusters they are clever, brilliantly shot and not overwrought with emotional tug-of-war like say, Avatar. But Nolan missed the chance to create a brilliant trilogy, I think. Batman is missing in approximately 2/3's of the movie, and Alfred, usually the clever comic relief and heart of the Wayne household spends the entire movie crying. I don't blame him, I was almost in tears too. Bane isn't even as strong or clever a character as The Joker. The twist is a bit of a blindside, although I did wonder about the twist-character from the beginning, but essentially this felt like a rehash of the previous two installments without adding anything to the story. Anne Hathaway was a blast, and looks way better on the batbike, but to me it wasn't enough. The end will have you cheering though.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Mirror., 11 May 2012
This review is from: The Tree of Life [DVD] (DVD)
This movie will only give back what you put in. If you have any moments in life that can relate to what's on the screen, you're in for a treat. If self-analysis and musings on religion/faith aren't your thing, don't watch this. But what can't be argued is that this is a PERSONAL film, made by a man with vision. So many movies are controlled by committee, and rightly so, they cost a fair amount and need to show a return, but rarely does an artist get to express himself like this. And like all great art, it'll divide the masses.

Been with them since album number one. They've gone from garage to grand arena seamlessly. The guitar part on The Face is enough reason to buy this album. Even the Chili Peppers have a KoL like song on their latest with Dance Dance Dance. Great band. Great album.
