4.0 out of 5 stars Totally absorbing (watch your pocketbook/wallet), 15 May 2016
Love this show; violent but realistic and superbly well-developed. A little annoyed that I bought season 1-5 box set first. Getting hold of 6 and 7 separately costs more than the whole of 1-7! No logic whatsoever to the pricing structure of these box sets... except maybe to lift your wallet! Anyway; great show.

I bought my signed copy from his very hands at a festival in summer of 2015. Chatted backstage prior to his gig (I was a festival steward). Nice fellah. Great guitarist. Legend.

I've watched this numerous times. Lovely warm traditional story. Perhaps a little syrupy at times but an excellent little drama with some simple political history thrown in.

Very enjoyable buddy movies. Excellent chemistry. Love the modern take on an old story. Guy Ritchie's done a really professional job on this one and I reckon he has actually enhanced the Holmes cannon. Cue episode three?

How this disjointed drivel ever got one Oscar is utterly beyond me. Scandalous!

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid and purposeful., 14 Feb. 2016
It's made out of metal and has robust controls especially the power/heat setting knob. It has a good thermostat. The lower heat setting is fine for taking the chill off moderately sized spaces (small living room, workshop etc). Won't win any awards for looks and the fan's a bit noisy but that's not a deal breaker. Switches off if knocked over. Lightweight, sturdy and compact. Overall very robust construction. Don't waste money buying smaller cheaper heaters with a plastic housing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent instrument for the demanding classical player., 13 Feb. 2016
I was going to spend way over a thousand pounds on an electric piano (choice between Roland RD700 or 800 and Nord HA88) primarily for the piano quality. Friend of mine who's a truly superlative classical player and recently got himself a P105, persuaded me to try his machine. The 105 has the same piano action and piano sample as the P115. I was totally convinced. The P115 has a realistically weighted and genuinely expressive action. It also has a superbly well sampled piano sound (I assume a complex sampling process has been applied to every note and at a range of volumes) with no evidence of sample glitches or unsubtle changes in quality as you run up and down the keyboard, a quirk which is detectable on several instruments at a similar price range. There's no sense of fatigue on the ears at medium to high volumes and more than sufficient polyphony. Of course you can play with the well judged reverb settings but the standard piano is quite faultless anyway. There's the option of the bespoke integral wooden stand and three pedal set up too for total expression. I'm not sure that Yamaha quite "meant" to create such an effective tool at this price range but I've tried their top end instruments (upwards of £3.5k) and I reckon that's what you'll have to pay to get a truly noticeable improvement over the P115 in the quality of the action and the sound. Other keyboards will serve you well in the synth and organ department but I judge the P115 to be all you need if your space and budget is limited and you're looking for a genuine alternative to the sound and feel of a really good quality mechanical piano.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not up to Sony standards., 4 Feb. 2016
I bought this a couple of days ago in preference to a well known supermarket own brand product thinking that it would be of a higher quality. Cost £20 (US price $20). I expected the promisingly large display as depicted on the box photo to include info about station tuning as well as time of day and alarm stuff. The actual analogue tuning dial located on the top of the box is the tiniest and hardest to see (with no back light) that I have ever seen on a small radio with a correspondingly fiddly rotary control. The volume control is also ridiculously small and fiddly. The large display is a complete sham as it shows nothing but time and alarm status. And the sound quality is very poor - I have an old and slightly damaged (hence the need for a replacement) portable radio which has quite a bright and articulate sound especially for speech; this Sony rubbish has very poor treble response i.e. muffled. There's a reason why these things are only displayed on the supermarket shelf inside their (heavily securitised) box. If you could clearly see/learn whilst in the store how limited is its functionality, you would never buy the thing. Extremely poor product and a very bad advert for Sony.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good quality spy thriller., 13 Dec. 2015
This review is from: The Double [DVD] (DVD)
I found this quite an engaging film which maybe missed out on being a very high quality work because of the poorly timed reveal and also a certain misjudged change in tempo combined with a slightly reduced credibility of the story line at a couple of points. There was almost an homage to Keyser Söze about Gere's character but only just. Otherwise the tension was generally well maintained right to the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Addictive., 29 Oct. 2015

Epic multi-layered storyline. Non-stereotyped fight and battle scenes. Realistic depiction of visceral violence. All kinds of sex. Probably the best child acting I've ever seen making for totally convincing child characters wholly embedded in an entirely adult context. Very powerful female characters. Pivotal role for a dwarf depicted in an unflinchingly non-PC manner. Nicely restrained supernatural elements. Believable social constructs and themes (rape, slavery and exploitation, class, nationality, family and ancestry, honour and loyalty, deceit, treachery and betrayal, politics and, of course, warfare). I've just spent several evenings (running into the early hours of the following morning) over the past couple of weeks bingeing on this utterly bonkers medieval mayhem. I'm now completely exhausted! It's going to be a long wait for the season 5 DVDs...
