5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible achievement, 8 Nov 2011
This book is an incredible achievement. Susan Crawford and her team have reworked and recreated 80 vintage knitting patterns, writing the patterns out in modern terms with beautifully worked charts and diagrams to make the instructions crystal clear, and illustrated with absolutely beautiful photography. I love that the original patterns have been photographed and reproduced as it's so interesting to see how terminology has changed over the years - I especially love that the reproductions show their age and previous use, even if this does result in the occasional very minor blemish. It really is so hard to decide just which pattern to knit first - there are so many gorgeous garments to choose from. If you have an interest in knitting or textiles or history of fashion, this book is a must-have for your bookshelf.

5.0 out of 5 stars The sacred art of writing great books..., 18 Oct 2002
Once again Christopher Brookmyre has excelled himself. The Sacred Art of Stealing is incredibly well-written - from the excellently observed characterisations, to the truly funny dialogue and a plot that twists and turns more times than a big bowl of spaghetti. It's just as tasty and satisfying too, while being much, much more witty and entertaining.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book, and will probably read it again very soon, just to check out exactly how the plot was set and then unravelled so magnificently. If you're after a good read, and a few laughs along the way, this is your book.
