Kids will love it, along with the other overproduced bland music that dominates the pop charts these days. Good luck to them, they are obviously going for that market, but i won't be following them in the future. To hear an interesting and creative rock album, go for Foals latest offering, which in parts, reminds me of 'A Rush Of Blood To The Head' album.

I thought this sounded pretty good initially, but after several listens, the songs just don't cut the mustard, and don't have the longevity and enjoyment like their earlier work.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great spooky read, 1 Jun. 2014
This review is from: The Ghost Hunters (Paperback)
I really enjoyed this book. The level of tension is gradually built up, with the supernatural element becoming darker and more disturbing as the book progresses. I also like the interpersonal developments between the characters, which, along with the intelligent writing make this a great read. Nice one, I can recommend it.

This is a fantastic album. I've always really liked atmospheric rock, with catchy hooks, and this ticks these boxes with added dividends. Its the sort of album that should be huge, and the band would be mega-stars if this was released if this music was in vogue. I hope they get lots of new fans with this excellent album.

I rarely bother to put a comment on Amazon, but this album really merits it. Initially, I thought it was quite good, but this is the sort of album that creeps up on you, and after several listens, it hits you with its brilliance. There is no filler at all, all of the songs are great but I do have my favorites (Disconnected, The Starting Line, In Your Own Time, Sea Fog), but the album works as a complete listen, from start to finish. The overall sound is reminiscent of their first few albums, but there is a warmth and maturity to the songs, which manage to be both melancholic, reminiscent and uplifting at the same time. Nice one guys, hope you get all the credit and success you desere with this one.

Good for Duran Duran - a bold thing to do, recreating their earlier sound for todays listener. But is works so well - this is due to the quality of the song material, which is staggering, and the excellent production, which sounds both retro and fresh. Well done guys, hope you have loads of success with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars great lost album, 5 Nov. 2009
This review is from: The Works (Audio CD)
I agree with the previous review. The album is probably his best, and i couldn't understand why at the time it wasn't a hit, ans some of his strongest songs are on this album. My faves, well they are all good, but the wonderful haunting ballad 'Walkabout' has to be the best. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars His Best so far, 9 Jan. 2007

Due to this album, there are always going to be two camps (no pun intended) for Darrens music. Those that enjoyed the lighter pop sound of his first solo album, and those with a bit more of an indie / rock lean who would prefer this one. As you can probably guess my my rating, I am of the latter group. Its still very much a pop album, but with more experimental leanings, and a more stripped down production. Its lyrics are honest and challenging, and I feel this must have been quite an therapeutic demon cleansing exercise for Darren. Hightly recommended.

2.0 out of 5 stars Below Par, 9 Jan. 2007
This review is from: Spin: Repackaged (Audio CD)
Its not terrible, but when you compare this to Darren's latest effort - The Tension & The Spark, or to most of Savage Garden's material, its pretty weak. This was done at a time when Darren was receiving pressure from his record company on how his material should sound, and this shows. Darren has admitted this himself. Still worth getting for Insatiable, Strange Relationship, and some of of the others are quite amusing, but I would give Tension & The Spark a go if you fancy something more meaty and honest.

This is a great return to form for Jimmy. His writing is largely to a high standard, and the tracks vary greatly in their style, so they'll be something for anyone who has liked his stuff before. Shame hes not as popular anymore, he is still making good music. I recommend it.
