2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 16 Jan 2012
This review is from: Out Of It (Paperback)
The editor of this book was overpaid, I found myself looking for the errors instead of concentrating on the story, which probably wasn't the author's intention. The writing is a little self-conscious too, the endless analogies, which are sometimes silly, pointless and clumsy often seem like 'filling', they do nothing for the flow of the tale.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good value, 14 Oct 2011
I had looked for these batteries in local shops, and, apart from the fact that the packages contained many more than I needed, the price was ridiculous. Very pleased to get these so promptly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good value heater for small space, 26 May 2010
There's something very friendly about a heater that glows when you switch it on. The psychological effect is probably just as useful as the heat it produces, which is modest. I didn't expect tropical levels of warmth, but it made all the difference when I was working in a freezing space during this depressing winter. Like having a happy colleague.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great colour, great product, 26 May 2010
The ease of use of this wood stain (water soluble) is a revelation. No lethal, choking, fumes either. This colour, which is a very, very, dark grey, is elegant, particularly when used with other shades in the range. Great service from the supplier, too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely, surprising garden tool, 26 May 2010
When this arrived I was taken aback by how small it seemed. I have no idea what I was expecting. But it's very effective, especially useful for gardeners who like to get close to their plants. It breaks up even the most concrete of surfaces, and I should know......clay, clay and more clay. Wonderful for teasing weeds away from the smallest seedlings, before the slugs get them. Not much chance of losing it in the undergrowth, the colour is a positive advantage. Very comfortable handle, too.

These are really useful dishes; a good thick glaze compared with others of their type.

3.0 out of 5 stars Workmanlike, 26 May 2010
It does the job, but the lack of a cushioned handle makes it a little hard on the hands.
For the price, it's probably good enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars Masterful and fascinating, 26 May 2010
Elizabeth David covers her subject in such detail that you have to pause for breath sometimes; the breadth of historical information is remarkable. A book that is easy to dip into wherever your fancy takes you though, stodgy it isn't. Her views on mass produced bread are so persuasive that you wouldn't want to eat it, ever again. You will also want to start making bread or many of the other recipes using yeast, which are sometimes surprising, straight away.

Dudley Moore: An Intimate Portrait
Dudley Moore: An Intimate Portrait
by Rena Fruchter
Edition: Paperback
Price: 7.94

4.0 out of 5 stars A very personal and loving memoir, 25 Mar 2010
The author is not objective, since she experienced Dudley Moore's decline into disease and death firsthand. The book is flawed, and her writing is often painful (not in a good way). But, on the whole, the love she expresses was well-deserved. Dudley Moore was talented and funny, two qualities to be treasured. We need another Moore, warts and all, and I imagine the author would agree.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not recommended for windy places!, 19 Jan 2009
For a while this was a good product. I raised seedlings quite successfully in the first year, although snails love the inside of the plastic, it smooths their path perfectly. Mine was anchored to an old door, screwed down, in fact, in a sheltered spot, surrounded by high walls, the wind tore it apart once, was rebuilt and then, a few weeks later, absolutely demolished. On the bright side, the poles and joint pieces came in handy on the allotment to support nets over the veg patches.
