4.0 out of 5 stars Good if you have a coax output, 14 July 2015
This item will improve the sound quality of most small TVs.

However I had problems connecting it to my Kogan TV using the analogue cables supplied. Happily my small August Freeview HD box has a digital coax sound output so it was easy to connect the soundbar using the coax cable included and the sound is a lot better. NB coax is not the same as optical so if that is what you've got try the Hitachi. If possible use the digital coax connection as I think some of the negative reviewers used the (analogue) headphone output with less good results.

The unit like others is a bit wide for small TVs. Please, soundbar and soundbase manufacturers, do a compact version for small TVs, about 55cms wide please...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good so far..., 12 July 2015
I've just got one of these from my new ISP (SSE). It was very easy to set up and so far I have had quick and stable adsl connections both via supplied ethernet cable and wifi. Range is good with 5/5 bars anywhere in the same room, 4/5 in the next room or bedroom above, dropping to 2/5 in back bedroom. My Asus laptop connects much quicker to it than to my previous TalkTalk router (D-Link 2680) and I am getting very close to the maximum for my line (17mbps).

It is early days but so far it is performing better than other reviews suggest - maybe they improved it?

My unit does not have usb or a cd. It gets quite hot in use so I suggest a spot with good ventilation out of direct sunlight.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly capable tablet, 14 Jun. 2015
This review is from: hudl 2
This is a surprisingly capable device as it has features which you normally only get on high-end tablets such as GPS and a slot to expand memory using a Micro SD card. The screen is bright and clear for indoor use though not as bright as some for outdoor use. It feels quick in normal use though there are faster tablets out there.

Battery life is around 6 to 9 hours which is fairly typical for this type of tablet. You can extend battery life when you are not using it by turning off wifi and bluetooth (in settings). If it does go flat, charge it for a few minutes and then hold the power button down until it reboots - you should not lose any data. You can buy cheap 12v socket chargers on line for use in the car etc. A mains charger is supplied.

Many people don't turn them off properly and then complain it has gone flat. If you are not using it for a day or two, hold the power button down for a couple seconds until the power off option appears. Then it won't lose any charge while you are not using it. Hold the power button down for about 5 seconds to turn it back on again. It will charge much quicker if you are not using it at the same time.

You can buy a cheap keyboard/case online to turn it into a basic mini laptop and you can download software apps from the huge number in the google andoid app store (some free, some not). Try the BBC weather, news, radio and iplayer apps for starters. Sound is good if you plug in headphones. Because of the built-in GPS you can even use it for satnav on land or at sea!

One criticism is the very limited selection of "wallpaper", i.e. the background image on the main screen. I can recommend Muzei (free from the appstore) which downloads a new HD photo of a work of art every day. If that is not your thing there are free add-ons for landscape photos, astronomy and sportscars. Other apps are available.

All in all, much better than I expected.

I previously had an original Hudl as well. The screen is now bigger and brighter with higher resolution and the processor is quicker. The other main difference is that battery management is improved so it doesn't go flat so quickly when you are away from the mains. The above points still apply so turn it off properly if you are going away for a day or two.

UPDATE Nov 2015 - Tesco seems to have pulled the plug on the Hudl range which is a shame. There is still online help on the Tesco Tech Support website. There have been problems with the latest upgrade so I wouldn't upgrade the android operating software if you don't have to. If you do have any problems try rebooting it by turning it off properly (see above) and then on again. There are also various options to do a reset - see the support website for details.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent but, 15 Feb. 2015
If you search for BBC Earth in DVD & Blu-ray you will find several recent BBC TV documentary series which are now available as Dutch imports. All these titles are very good/ well worth seeing if you missed them on TV. In this one the BBC team investigates the plight of the magnificent big cats and other species which are increasingly endangered in the wild. I would recommend all these titles but at around £15 they are all quite pricey. Note that this series does not directly cover the history and culture of Burma/Myanmar, fascinating though that subject is.

Other titles cover the wildlife of Brazil, Borneo, Siberia, Congo, Arabia, New Guinea, and Guyana and it is great to see them available on blu-ray as well as DVD. Be aware that some titles ARE already available, so don't buy the Dutch import unless you are one of our lovely Dutch friends, e.g. Madagascar, South Pacific etc. Also available on DVD only at around £8 are individual episodes of the BBC Natural World series. Again these are excellent but quite pricey.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely bowls..., 26 Jan. 2015
These are very attractive bowls suitable for cereal, soup or pudding. They have a yellow rim with contrasting blue design and measure 16cm wide (just over 6") and 4.5cm deep (1 3/4"). Check the size is suitable and if so I recommend them. Shop around as prices vary considerably.

Walking on Water: The Daredevil Acrobatics of a Pioneering Photographer
by Kos Evans
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £30.00

4.0 out of 5 stars Great photography but..., 6 Nov. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I would prefer the book to be slightly larger in format to make the most of the excellent photographs of all manner of boats from all manner of imaginative angles. My main criticism however is the very small, faint typeface which I found virtually illegible, especially on pages coloured grey. If you want to read the text I recommend you get the ebook, otherwise you will need very good eyesight and preferably a magnifying glass... Publishers please take note.

This is an excellent 7" tablet which has been PC Pro magazine's best buy for the last couple of years but you should also consider "going large" with the 10" Asus TF103C with optional detacheable keyboard (recommended by PC Pro) for around £200:

Asus TF103c 10.1-inch Convertible Tablet with Detachable Keyboard (White) - (Intel Atom Z3745 1.33GHz, 1GB RAM, 16GB SSD, WLAN, Bluetooth, Camera, Android 4.4)

You should also consider the Asus TF103c 10" Google Android tablet with detachable keyboard which PCPro recommends in its latest issue (Dec 2014), currently £240.
