WARNING: This DVD is the cut version - Scenes showing forses falling have been chopped, 23 May 2012
I have been looking for an uncut version of Ulzana's Raid for a long time, and took a chance on this one hoping it would be OK.
However, it is not. The film has had vital moments removed because they show horses being tripped (using wires I assume).
To be absolutely clear, here is an example of how it has been cut. There is a scene where Lancaster rides in pursuit of Ulzana's son and another Indian who are trying to loop back behind the soldiers. Lancaster jumps off his horse and starts to shoot, hitting Ulzana's son first, which is shown.
However the effects of further shots by Lancaster are not shown as they show horses being hit and falling. So you get the rest of the scene where Lancaster is shooting with no pictures of the effects of his shots. This does not make sense to the casual viewer who may not realise the importance of him shooting the horses to deny Ulzana mobility. It is a real downer as these moments are crucial to the understanding of the movie.
The search goes on for an uncut version of this much underrated movie.
