1.0 out of 5 stars NOT WATERPROOF, 17 Mar. 2016
Worked fine after getting the connections secure. Very difficult - recommend tweezers to align wiring and get good connection. Why do I hate it?
It is NOT waterproof - discovered only after tripping out the fusebox. Opened it this morning and a LOT of water came out!

4.0 out of 5 stars Tweaked too much in remastering?, 12 Mar. 2016

This review is from: Bruckner: Symphony 7 (Audio CD)
No problems regarding delivery. I still have the mono double LP of this performance but it is showing its age. This recording still captures the ethereal quality of the violins but othar strings, cellos in particular, have been 'enhanced' such that the sound is fuller and warmer with too much resonance which intrudes - particularly in the majestic 2nd Movement.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Packaging - Shame about the music quality, 27 Feb. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Good Packaging. The record sleeve was immaculate. The Berkeley side was very noisy and did not deserve the 'MINT' rating - luckily I have a vinyl record cleaning machine. The Mozart side was better. I would class these sides as GOOD (Berkeley) and VG+ for the Mozart.

5.0 out of 5 stars A classic mystery, 13 April 2014

Peter Lovesey's early work evoked a sense of the period - this is set after the Crippin case and on board an ocean liner crossing the Atlantic.
Good characterisation and a very satisfying twist at the end. One of his best

Does the job in removing surface dust. Not a record cleaner. Arrived ahead of time. Good packaging. What more is there to say?

1.0 out of 5 stars Came without instructions, 9 Aug. 2013

I had to go on the internet to find out that 10mN was equal to 1 gram but there are so many markings on the thing that I have no clue how to align my cartridge using this tool. Or what the majority of the marking mean!

5.0 out of 5 stars Regenerate old vinyl LPs, 14 Jun. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Decided to digitise my LP Collection - many dating back to the mid-1960s. I realised that I needed to clean them to reduce clicks and pops before recording my master 192kHz/24 Bit music files and, with the high number of LPs involved, decided to invest in a dedicated LP cleaner with vacuum. Comparing the number of clicks/pops for an old LP before (3568)and after cleaning (1220) prompted me to give the LP a 2nd clean resulting in 650 registered clicks. The machine was simple to use and allows the LP to be cleaned in both clockwise and anti-clockwise directions at the flick of a switch. The vacuum tube is simple to install and is very effective - powered by a separate switch. The LPs look like new and sound marvellous. Have cleaned over 40 LPs now. One word of warning: the goat hair brush included with the machine did shed hairs at first but this was not a problem after the first couple of LPs.

White Elephant
White Elephant

5.0 out of 5 stars In memory of Michael Brecker, 2 Oct. 2012
This review is from: White Elephant (Audio CD)
I have possessed both these CDs, as White Elephant and White Elephant II, since their original release. It predates Steps Ahead and the music relects a bringing together of individuals who obviously enjoyed playing together. Both Brecker Brothers are present with Michael on top form. Although Mike Maineiri is the focus, the music is almost an extended jam with friends which extends the music by letting his friends rip. It is a shame that no live performances of the 23 piece 'Elephant' exists - this is the total of their recorded output. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good compilation of the best Times crosswords, 15 Aug. 2012

If you buy a book of crosswords and you do not want to carry a dictionary around with you for the obscure Scottish slang, medical diseases, etc., this compilation is an ideal holiday companion and includes wit and humour as well as the usual brain teasing that the Times crosswords are noted for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not really about the man - much more about his engineering works, 16 Mar. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have several biographies of I K Brunel. This book, originally published in 1870, this edition published 1971 (with an introduction by L T C Rolt) does cover his life but concentrates on the engineering works more than the man himself.
It starts with his early life but moves rapidly on to his adventures and tribulations in constructing the Rotherhithe tunnel. There is a large portion of the book devoted to the GWR with interesting detail about the GWR bridges he designed (70 pp) and the atmospheric railway (40 pp). Each ship is given detailed treatment - 160 pp covering Great Western through to Great Eastern.
There is a wealth of detail which I had not come across before - including copies of personal letters and correspondence as well as detailed reports of his appearances in Westminster to answer question on behalf of companies he represented.
My copy arrived promptly and in good condition. The book is well written and a joy to read.
