5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating overview, 2 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Anyone fascinated by the Soviet Union will receive a unique insight into the complex background machinations and intrigues that resulted in the Soviet Union's remarkable achievements and failures. If this were fiction you simply would not believe it. This is no dry history book but an easy to read and hard to put down book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ripping Yarn, 2 Jun 2014

This review is from: Greenmantle (Kindle Edition)
The recent hilarious send up of The Thirty Nine Steps prompted my interest to read Greenmantle. The quaint language from nearly one hundred years back coupled with what now seems a slightly tongue in cheek upper class hero makes for a good read. The subject matter of the Great War with the current 'celebrations' is timely, especially since it involves Islam. Richard Hannay could well be the fore runner of Indiana Jones and James Bond

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning Photo Display, 21 Nov 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have thousands of photographs of aircraft and of course family snaps taken over 50 years. Early black & white prints as well as colour have been scanned into my computer and tidied up with varying success using Photoshop. The problem was how to view these conveniently. The perfect answer is my new 18 inch Nix Digital Photo Frame. The pictures are perfectly clear and the colours are superb. Too good in fact as I had to go back into the computer to remove the odd blemish that I had previously missed.
It is so easy to set up, just copy your photos onto the USB Flash Drive, then insert it into the back of the screen. Job done.
With the automatic movement sensor that switches the screen on and off as needed, the pictures displayed in a random manner, I am simply transfixed by the continuous stream of images that just appear. I can just sit back and relax and enjoy the stunning images and reminisce of all the places I have been, there is even a small remote control that lets me change the sequence or zoom into a particular image. No dusty old photo albums any more, or searching in my computers folders.
It is a whole new way to enjoy those valuable photos. Total magic.
Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Frighteningly revealing, 7 Oct 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
History is overturned by this book, incompetence, ignorance, flawed decision making, equipment failure, crisis management or crisis causing. So much has been revealed as to how close we were to all out nuclear destruction. The style is journalistic and the flow of events is interrupted by filling in historical details, but the message is frightening.
A must read for anyone interested in modern political history.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Sat Nav upgrade, 26 Sep 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Easy to fit, easy to use. Very accurate routing on several long and complicated routes, especially driving across some major towns with many turns. Plenty of warning when approaching changes with very clear visual and verbal instructions especially useful at complex junctions. It quickly picked up alternative routes when the chosen route was closed. Most useful was the lane guide on multi lane highways enabling ample time for positioning for exits. A neat touch was being directed to addresses on the correct side of dual carriageways to be able drive straight in.
Simply a brilliant way to upgrade a Sat Nav, an absolutely essential driving aid.

5.0 out of 5 stars Air Power in China, 28 July 2010

very well researched, this very readable book comprehensively covers all aspects of current military aircraft in use in China today. Ther are no other easily available sources of in depth information to compare. For anyone requiring an insight into this secretive and camera shy military there is a wealth of good quality photos to match the detailed analysis.Chinese Aircraft: History of China's Aviation Industry 1951-2007
