4.0 out of 5 stars Transilvanian Hunger - How black metal should be!, 23 Dec. 2004
This review is from: Transilvanian Hunger (Audio CD)
A truly classic darkthrone album if not their best excluding blaze in the northern sky. This is 8 raw slabs of true in your face norwegian black metal and it rocks! As i am a big fan of black metal and i own around 40 black metal albums i can safley say this is one of my favourites. From start to finish this is in your face black metal and it doesnt get much more ruthless and cold than this! Like most 80% of all other black metal albums, the sound quality will be bad, but this problem has to be seen through and remembering this was recorded 11 years aga on a low budget sum by a black metal band, it is the music that has to be judged and not the sound quality. If you enjoy other great black metal bands such as mayhem, emperor and carpathian forest and more recently tsjuder, 1349 and marduk, then buy this unmissable black metal album because this is where the sound of these new black metal bands has come from. Transilvanian hunger is an Unmissable darkthrone classic so buy it or miss out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Danzig - Halfway to Hellbent!, 15 Sept. 2004
This review is from: Circle Of Snakes (Audio CD)
A true return to form from the god of heavy metal music! Danzig everybody! This beats the previous Luciferi release by a mile, is just that bit better than satan's child and blackacidevil was different so i cant really say is better. Obviously the first 4 albums wil always be the best to true fans of Danzig like myself but this isnt the original Danzig albums! Its the closest you ill get to the origional sound of danzig 1, lucifuge, how the gods kill and danzig 4 and thats it. But its the best since 4. Anyway the album itself...
The album starts with a pointless Wotans Procession. Hrm not a good start. But then it finally finishes and in kicks the wickedSkincarver! Thats more like it Demon MF's! Circle of snakes is more of the same but has the already classic Halfway to hellbent chorus! YES! THIS IS TRUE DANZIG! PURE EVIL! Next theres the classic 1000 Devils reign, trhe first song anyone heard off the new album! Classic tune but Glenns voice is way low and dull. Oh well its Danzig! Next theres my favourite of the album, Skull Forest! The darkest and most evil Danzig song since stalker song on 4! This album is really starting to pick up now! This album does not let up, as hellmasks first searing riff kicks in and causes an outrageous headbanging session!
When we were dead is a classic danzig track but is really more of the same. Night Besodem seriously rocks the house and My Darkness is a bit like night besodom. Nether bound is yet another awesome heavy riffage track to make your ears bleed but really, this next and final track is the one to knock you flying and saying, dude, this is danzig 2 all over again. SHEER BLISS! Black Angel white angel is the real standout track here man! Heavy quick riffage and awesome lyrics just ginish this killer album off in true DANZIG style! Listen to me, BUY THIS ALBUM! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!

4.0 out of 5 stars Punx Unite!, 21 July 2004
This review is from: Singles Collection (Audio CD)
I first heard of the Virus through the New York street punx, The Casualties. Now if you like your so called punk slow, boring and generally sounding more like a pop band, then look else where now, because this is the almighty street punks The Virus! This band are catchy, fast, talented and nothing less than Pure Punk! If you like bands such as the Casualties, Exploited, English Dogs, Sham 69 or any other similar bands then buy the Virus singles collection. The Virus are the greatest american punk band I have ever heard! This album contains 4 of my favourite punk songs which are 'Looks like Trouble', the incredibly fast 'Full circle', the catchy 'Forgotten Rebel' and the pacy 'Still Fighting for a Future'. Also included is a studio recorded cover of the Exploted's 'I believe in Anarchy' and a live cover of the Angelic Upstarts classic 'Im an Upstart'.
I would have given this album 5 stars, but it is slightly let down by the choice of live recordings included and the inclusion of some weaker tracks like 'Bomb Drop' and 'Celebrity Gossip'. Anyway, the Virus rule so if your looking for a punk album to seriously make you pogo, look no further my friend, buy the Virus Singles and Rarities now!

4.0 out of 5 stars If Your looking for trouble!, 20 July 2004
Thrall-Demonsweatlive is Danzig's classic 1993 studio and live album.
On the Thrall part of the album there are 2 of Danzig's heaviest and most powerful songs they have ever released, Its Coming Down and the violet fire. as well as these 2 classic songs on the Thralll section you also get an amazing cover of the classic Elvis song, Trouble(and who better to sing it than the evil Elvis himself?)
the Demonsweatlive section doesnt contain as many live tracks as i would have expected for my money but the live tracks here are top quality in both the sound production and of the classic songs chosen. They play one of my favourite danzig tracks, Snakes of Christ (Lucifuge 1990), the 88' classic 'Am I Demon' from their self titled debut album, the haunting 'Sistinas' off their 1992 album 'How the Gods Kill' and the all time fans favourite 'Mother', which is the best live track ever! Also if you let the cd play on after the end of Mother live (track 7) for about 10 minutes there is the original studio version of mother which is a nice extra. Thrall-Demonsweatlive is a great album for any danzig fan that wants live and new studio tracks.

4.0 out of 5 stars The best Werewolf movie since American Werewolf in London!, 10 July 2004
This review is from: Dog Soldiers [DVD] [2002] (DVD)
Dog soldiers is one of my favourite modern horror films as it has a great story and setting and at timeshas some amazing visual effects.
The movie starts with a small group of soldiers being dropped off in the Highlands of Scotland to complete a routine training exercise (in an attempt to evade the Special Forces soldiers). Things dont turn out as planned though as when the soldiers arrive at their enemy's campsite they find their enemy's camp completly destroyed in what appears to have been a complete massacre.Shocked by what they have found, they immediately take up arms and secure the complete area.
When finding the enemy leader Ryan screaming in pain and seriously wounded the group decide to call for a quick evacution of the area, but as usual, the radio they need to communicate with is not working.
The soldiers decide to take shelter in an nearby abandoned house for the night until morning, but as the sun goes down and darkness falls upon the lands strange sounds begin to be heard from all over the woods. The screams that could be heard before were now turning to unhuman growls and as the full moon began to rise more with every minute the howling and movement heard in the distance was slowly creeping ever closer.....

5.0 out of 5 stars Expirience the Nightmare for the first time!, 10 July 2004
This review is from: Eraserhead [DVD] (DVD)
EraserHead is one of my favourite horror movies of all time for one simple reason. This film is just pure madness! EraserHead is a one of a kind horror movie. It is the most bizzare, abnormal & nightmarish film its viewers have ever laid there engrossed eyes upon. John Nance plays EraserHead, the wild haired father to the premature deformed baby that never stops crying.
There are many bizzare scenes in this film the best of which have to be the people behind the radiator, the chicken at the mother in laws house and the Dream Theatre scene. Eraserhead was cleverly filmed in black and white to back up the theory that evryones nightmares/dreams are seen by that person without colour. Both the surreal soundtrack and the fact that the movie was filmed in black and white add to the overall visual and audio aspects of the movie, therefore providing viewers with a more confused and surreal outlook upon the film.
If one definite fact has can be retrieved from this extrordinarily confusing masterpiece of a film, it's that David Lynch is obviously not all there. He has a mind that is both insane and pure genius at the same time. A film as visually shocking as EraserHead could only have been created by a man who is only as mental as the movies that he creates. EraserHead, David Lynch's Nightmare comes to life!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lucifuge: The formula for a classic rock album!, 10 July 2004
This review is from: Danzig Vol.2: Lucifuge (Audio CD)
With Danzig's first album release, most believed the band were only capable of playing hard rock and roll, yet with their second release in Lucifuge Danzig adapted more of a blues rock sound to their music. In doing so I believe the band broadend their musical talents and limits and enabled the band members with the chance to play a more comfortable style of music to their liking. Danzig's vocals work better with the overall flow of music and this further increased Danzig's status as one of the most essential rock bands in America.
Lucifuge continues with the same dark edge of music this band adapted in their classic debut album, though this time contains much slower musicallly talented songs such as the dark Killer wolf(one of danzigs greatest vocal songs), and the classic Evil Elvis ballad that is Blood and Tears. As Proven in the 50's rock and roll style "Long way back from Hell" and the metal style "Tired of being Alive" Danzigs voice could not be more perfectly suited to this album if he tried. I play this album almost everyday as I believe I do not own a greater album than Lucifuge at this point in time. Perhaps the main reason for this is that no other band has ever been able to match the musical talent and strenghth shown in Danzig's albums since the original Misfits.
Glenn's vocals are supported perfectly with the exeptional talent of guitarist John Christ, the smooth, bouncy basslines from the legend that is Eerie Von, and the pacy drumlines provided by who i believe to be the greatest rock drummer of all time, Chuck Biscuits. The pure raw talent of Lucifuge has not yet been matched by any other rock band since it's eagerly awaited release in 1990. There is not one single filler track that can be found in this perfect album. It's talented music matched with the equally classic vocals from the great Glenn Danzig in all his pure, howling, vocal glory.

4.0 out of 5 stars A classic zombie movie!, 9 July 2004
When there's no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth.
Dawn of the Dead is George A. Romeros classic follow-up to the equally brilliant, Return of the Living dead. As the plague of zombies continue to roam the earth a, 4 fortunate survivors create themselves a zombie free hideout andt take refuge in the ultimate place to be in their situation, a large shopping centre. Once all of the dead have been cleared from the shopping centre and the quartet are securley sealed inside, the four friends are having the times of their lives!
With dawn of the Dead most oftenly being classed as a long film(as it is on over 2 hours) for me this film ends too soon. The pure quality of this film keeps you so deeply engrossed, that instead of seeming too long, the movie seems too short and keeps you wanting to more right at the bitter end. The shopping centre itself is a perfect location for the setting of this movie, allowing Romero to create a deeply humorous side to the movie as incredibly stupid zombies fall down stairs, scratching hopelessly at the door windows of shops and walking around the shops like the living.Dawn of the dead contains some of the most clever zombie deaths ever and the best of which include a screwdriver through the ear, head explosions from gunshots and the classic decapitation by machete.
25 years on from the original release of Dawn of the Dead, the film does not look the slightest bit dated, the gore, humour and effects are just as amazing now as they always have been. With the ravenous swarms of zombies reeking havoc all over the world and the gore laden action that makes Dawn of the Dead the brilliant horror film its turned out to be, its obvious why this film has many a time been rated, the greatest Zombie flick of all time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Groovy!, 8 July 2004
Evil dead 2: Dead by Dawn
Sam Raimi's Evil Dead 2 Dead By Dawn is with out a doubt the greatest horror movie of all time!
This is a classic horror movie for the 3 simple reasons:It is funny, gory and well written. Dead by dawn is a vast improvment upon the Evil Dead 1 as the acting is better, the camera work is unbelievable and the dialogue is very catchy and clever.
Ash has returned to the cabin in the woods for a quiet, romantic weekend with his girlfriend but things take a turn for the worst as (for some unapparent reason) Ash plays the recorded words from the book of the dead for the again and in doing so unleashes the forces of the dead for a second time. I Ash is hilariously put to the test of having to fight his newly posessed girlfriend, being viciously attacked by his own hand, getting locked down in the fruit cellar with an old witch and single handedly battling the forces of evil using a chainsaw that he has cleverly sewn to the stub of where his arm used to be.
Evil dead 2 is the funniest Horror movie around! There is not a single person who will be abled to watch this film without laughing at the most horrible parts. Through the wicked creation of Evil Dead 2, Sam Raimi has produced a comedy/horror masterpiece that can be highly appreciated for many more years to come.
