5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Backup, 25 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I read loads of reviews on various back up power packs and on balance this seemed a low cost punt on trying one of them.

This definitely ticks all the boxes and works so well with all our devices.

It is a neat compact little unit, charges quickly, holds its charge, and as an emergency power backup I cannot fault it.

On a smartphone it boosts a failing battery back to full charge in 15-20 minutes, and meanwhile the phone can still be used.

If you are looking for something more heavy duty (eg for a tablet) then I suspect the Anker range will have what you need, and if this is anything to go by they have done their research sufficiently to establish themselves as a trusted brand.

These little gizmos are perfect for just lowering the seat belt line enough that it doesn't scratch along your neck.

One star off as they can be hard to clip on (you do need some dexterity and strength in your hands).

Otherwise they are the perfect solution to a persistent problem that car designers think we are all 6'2"

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect replacement, 25 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
What can I say - like for like at less than half the price of the local department store.

It worked straight away with our Sky+HD 1Tb box, and synced up to our TV as soon as I put the code in.

Wonderful :-)

Philips Sonicare HX6511/43 EasyClean White Rechargeable Toothbrush
Philips Sonicare HX6511/43 EasyClean White Rechargeable Toothbrush
Price: £89.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Good First Sonic Toothbrush, 25 Jun 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
There is no doubt that Philips is the best in sonic toothbrushes - we've had five of them now.

They seem to last 2-3 years and then the seals and battery start to degrade, but hey, they have to make their money and they keep refining the range.

If you haven't used a sonic brush before then there is an easy start up programme built in which gradually gets your teeth and gums used to this quite different sensation and effect. Then you'll be flying and never go back.

The "whitening" aspect of this brush isn't so clear - possibly it is just the brush head itself that does the extra and it is a little different to the standard ones.

As some other reviewers have pointed out the charging stand with this model is quite small, but if you want to try it and find you like it, then the entire range is pretty much inter changeable - we use the same top end stand for all three of the brushes we currently have in (family) use.

You can get a hard case that will hold the brush and the small charger stand if you are going on hols etc, and that may be worth the investment to upgrade.

So the only reason this loses one star, is that it is really an entry level model and I'd be happier if they marketed it as such. Do some research and you'll see all the other options in the Philips range, and you may well decide to spend a little more for the little refinements.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a blast!, 18 Jun 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Almost literally :-)

We have put up with the flat screen sound for years now, and had been considering a sound bar but there are so many out there.

The Sony brand of course brings big expectations, and I have to say these were arguably exceeded.

The connectivity is amazing - from Bluetooth, to optical cable, and routine HDMI etc - this unit seems to have it all. Perfect for this concept of the "connected home".

When the TV is off, we can play music via Bluetooth on phones and ipods. The variety of sound effects is stunning. The cinema option really is just like sitting in the local Odeon. Everything is customisable too - so if you want less bass, more treble, it is easily adjusted through the remote control (very handy).

I'd listened to a few cheaper soundbars in supermarkets and the like. They of course are so much better than the flat tv sounds, but I have to recommend laying out a few more quid to get something at this range in the market.

Not only does it look good, and sound good, but I think the guys at Sony have tried to give us a little bit of future proofing in the way the tech in the back of the unit is set up for input and output.

3.0 out of 5 stars "Grim" Setting - not an easy read for a youngster, 18 Jun 2014
This review is from: Mutant City (Paperback)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Based on the synopsis my 11 year old boy thought this would be a fun read.

The reality is that it is a full-on young adult's scifi story, set in - as most other reviewers have said - a "grim" alien world.

It isn't a short book, and perhaps better pitched at a teenage reader.

From what I have seen browsing and skim reading, it is a punchy read, with good graphical narrative and in a way the excitement of a video game on an Xbox as opposed to a Wii (our kids being the latter).

We've put the book to one side for now and he'll probably pick it up when he is older.

4.0 out of 5 stars Early days, but positive results so far, 18 Jun 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I'll get the one star deduction out of the way first. This particular model cannot be used on the face, and there is no adaptor you can buy to make it work that way.

So that is perhaps the main downside to this slightly cheaper Philips IPL.

Now, the positives.

There are no thermal brushes or needles that have to be replaced unlike some other "permanent" hair removal systems.

It takes effect gradually, and must be used only once every two weeks, but after just 3 sessions my wife and daughter both find that there are areas which appear now to be permanently hair free (ie no regrowth) and some that have less hair.

They have found it easiest to do the treatment for each other, but using it on oneself is certainly feasible - perhaps not trouble free though as you need to work out a system to know which areas you have treated.

Preparation is vital. A whiteliner pencil is, we discovered online, very useful for marking a grid so you know where you have treated and for blocking out moles and birthmarks etc.

The areas to be treated need to be carefully shaved first as the laser in essence burns the hair follicle so that it won't grow back. Any hair left on the surface will be burned too - my wife likened it to having a match burn the hair off.

You can buy laser goggles (the orangey red ones) and although they are maybe not essential, they do help protect the eyes and could make a difference if you suffer from such as migraines whereby the pulsing light could be a problem.

It is absolutely essential that you check your skin type, tone and hair colour before you buy. For quite a few people it won't be suitable.

However, there is no doubt that this is worth the time and effort for relatively pain and trouble free hair removal on a permanent basis. Just do your research and follow the rules, then you really shouldn't go wrong.

It is a considered purchase, and if you are thinking about it do check out whether the version which works on the face is worth the extra cost for what you want to treat.

Compared to salon prices for essentially the same process and result, this little unit is actually quite a bargain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great results, easy to use, 10 May 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
These are easy to use, give great results, and when used in conjunction with other Finish products (glass protector and rinse aid) give great results.

These are also superb as pre-soakers when something is badly burnt on e.g. grill pans and oven roasting dishes.

Other brands may have fancy smells or claim added benefits, but these give consistent results which cannot be faulted to be honest.

4.0 out of 5 stars No fishy tatse and smell!!, 10 May 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
These don't taste or smell at all fishy - unlike some other krill capsules I have tried - so this is a massive positive.

There are not "added extras" either, another difference from the competition.

I can't say whether the beneficial effects are any better or worse than the other krill I am used to, but based on the fact these ones seem more digestible and have no nasty tatse/smell side effects, it will be mega-red I plump for in future.

4.0 out of 5 stars Improving on their basic espresso, 10 May 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
These lungo capsules are rather more aromatic than their basic espresso ones, and give a good clean coffee.

Initially I loved the espresso pods, but suddenly found them too flat somehow. These have a big more flavour and complexity.

They are individually wrapped which helps with freshness, are plastic rather than metal (original nespresso capsules are metal), and are pretty cost effective.

I'll definitely consider rebuying them at some point.
