5.0 out of 5 stars The reviews have been fairly mixed on this one (I know most of my friends have hated it). Pity only six were made, 29 Sep 2014
This review is from: Crimes of Passion [DVD] (DVD)
Very enjoyable series. Not the trickiest of whodunnits (so far with, with only one remaining, I have guessed the killer or killers) but certainly a very stylish drama and a very agreeable 1 1/2 hour entertainment on BBC 4. The reviews have been fairly mixed on this one (I know most of my friends have hated it).

Pity only six were made.

Absolutely fine - fits perfectly, well perhaps too well but it certainly stops the water running away which is pretty essential.

Key thing seems to be not to ever use the PC printer firmware update (to be honest, can't recall if I did or did not do that - I am always updating things) Anyway, the printer kicked up a bit of a fuss initially saying that this was not compatible (non Epson) ink and initially seemed to suggest that was not going to work. After re-starting the printer, it came up with a note saying that was I happy to continue with the non epson ink so I clicked yes and it then whirred around for a bit before finally printing - whew.

The print seems to be fine certainly for basic printing - which is my main use for the printer along with the scanner part so not concerned about super quality photo prints - so probably won't be testing it for that

As 16 tubs came in a very thin box and I have only used one - I hope to have those others around for a while before using those. So at present reasonably happy with the purchase

3.0 out of 5 stars Sad to say one of the poorer GA Marvel masterworks ..., 14 Aug 2014

Sad to say one of the poorer GA Marvel masterworks for me. Story-wise and art etc is OK and standard GA fare. I really like the HT stories and many are very decent. The reconstruction of the art was the big letdown in this issue and was very poor compared with many recent super sharp GA issues. Just hope the future volumes are a lot better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful films, comics and London Streets, 14 Aug 2014

Very enjoyable set of Children's Film Foundation films. Why these are not tucked away on a TV channel or two I do not know. I saw them originally at the cheap Saturday pictures back in the 60s / 70s and later on Irish TV but they would make a fine addition to many a satellite channel. Lots of wonderful shots of London streets and shops as well as some wonderful performances from many well known (at the time actors and actresses).

Bought this mainly for a single sequence in a London Street showing the kids standing reading a whole load of comics on a comics spinner - Fantastic Four / Avengers etc as well as DC comics and more from the 60s. Perfect for any 60s comics fan. In fact, if they had had the whole film in front of that shop, I would have still watched it all !

5.0 out of 5 stars Yet another superb paperback Marvel Masterwork, 14 Aug 2014
This is the first of two volumes following the separate adventures of the Torch from Strange Tales 101 (before that the tales were mainly all monster or horror tales). Fantastic Four had reached issue 7 and Spider-man (just) Hulk (just about) Thor Ant-man Kathy Patsy Walker Millie etc were on the shelves. Why the Torch ? The youth market perhaps, or perhaps because of the Golden Age Torch (why didn't they continue from the original HT series ?)

The early adventures more often or not had guest appearances of the other FF characters especially the Invisible Girl and in the later issues, the Thing. Little of the FF stories make their way into HT stories so there is no Doc Doom but Sub Mariner does turn up (again, a reference to the GA battles in the 40s) and most of the villains are of the quirky kind such as the Eel, Plant Man, Sorcerer, The Wizard, Sandman or second raters such as the Puppet Master (who could have been a contender if he just used those puppets with a little more common sense). Many of the villains never re-appeared or if they did it was in an obscure issue of Marvel Team up / two-in-One. The art and stories are fine throughout but don't expect any Marvel masterpieces but they are all gems in their own way and a pleasure to read. Timeless yarns.

Lovely to see The Jack Kirby / Steve Ditko Spider-man / Human Torch tale. Really odd.

Yet another Marvel masterworks classic for the shelf. A few original pages of artwork and a few ads feature in the back of the book plus a good intro.

Often wondered why they didn't alternate the characters of the FF and have a solo Thing / Sue Storm / Baxter Building etc story. Also, many of the tales show various 'powers' of the HT that rarely (if ever) re-appeared but then again, many of the early Marvel issues had those weird and wonderful ideas and most have been long forgotten.
