4.0 out of 5 stars Best book on Philby I have read, 27 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I found this book to be written in an engaging and accessible style. I have read a few books about Philby, and I think this one offers the most convincing account of his personality and motivation. Also, the afterword by John LeCarre is, predictably, very good.

4.0 out of 5 stars A conservative in everything but his politics, 4 Feb 2014

I really enjoyed Ingram's introduction to William Cobbett. It served as a reminder about how far English democracy travelled during the 19th century, and offered a compelling portrait of Cobbett.

1.0 out of 5 stars It didn't work, 19 Jun 2008
It looked lovely and the price is excellent. The only downside was that it did not work. The screen was blank...glowing white with no pictures. The Zen website was hopeless...no mention of this sort of problem. I had to return it (which was very easy thanks to Amazon).

I wanted to get another Zen, but I have just read the reviews on Amazon. Quite a few people seem to be having difficulties with this product. So I'm going to buy an Ipod instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars What psychoanalysis really is (and what it really isn't), 19 May 2004
An excellent introduction which manages to be both scholarly and highly readable. The book is remarkably comprehensive considering its brevity, and should serve as an excellent starting point for anyone who wants to learn about the theory and the practice of psychoanalysis.
