5.0 out of 5 stars Understanding more about the Anathomy of the female body and the Physiology of Birth, 30 April 2014
This book has five amazing chapters about the physiology of birth and the anatomy of the female body. It also cleverly guides the reader into the story of how birth became medicalised and how the relationship between families and doctors became about fashion and social status, changing the dynamics of birth.
All doctors, midwives and obstetricians should read this. But ultimately is for women so they can take a more active role in their care because knowledge is power!
Enjoy your reading

Baby Management for Men: A Very Practical Guide
Baby Management for Men: A Very Practical Guide
by Henk Hanssen
Edition: Paperback
Price: £9.99

4.0 out of 5 stars A practical and fun guide for `beginners'., 24 Jun. 2013
I was originally sceptical about the title: he word `management' scares me a little on baby topics. But the book won me over after few pages. In this case the world `management' is more about how you manage yourself as a parent, specially related to work -life balance.
I found the book fun and entertaining with very practical information. It touches on a variety of topics to do with baby care, child development, products to buy etc in a very concise way. It talks about one topic in a basic informative way and moves on to the next one with the same concise way.
While I wouldn't recommend the book for those people that are passionate about the subject and want to explore more, I would passionately suggest it for those people that are new to the subject and want an understanding of involvement with practical concise facts and a fun approach. Plus it is easy to read `on demand' rather then form beginning to end. A `sure start' book!

5.0 out of 5 stars SWEET AND EDUCATIONAL, 30 May 2013
I love to read this story book. It's so sweet, while communicating important values, and the end of the story is so empowering!
I also enjoy the unique and different design as well as the colors throughout the pages. The small details in design in each page give the possibility to expand on the text and personalize the story telling. I can easily read it every night!

4.0 out of 5 stars The gifts of manual skills, patience and wisdom, 26 Feb. 2013
While I found some of the chapters too historically heavy, I loved the positive and empowering birth stories scattered through the book. It was also interesting to read about cultural blindness of industrialised countries, how technology impact not only labour but also midwives and doctor training and the importance of manual skills to excel in assisting pregnancy and labour. Birth Matters is packed with Ina May Gasking extraordinary experience and knowledge and she shares her `personal' experience in attending births.

5.0 out of 5 stars Evergreen breast-feeding bible, 19 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I found this book very practical, clear and thorough on the subject. With lots of ideas and different angles on breast-feeding. The common denominator between chapters is that breast-feeding is natural, nurturing, can be enjoyable indeed and with care can be easy.
It doesn't have to be red from beginning to end but consulted on demand with a wonderfully detailed index.
As a holistic practitioner I think prevention is better then cure, reading this book early gives confidence and knowledge on the subject so mums can healthily and easily breast-feed and practitioner can refer to a reliable, professional source.

4.0 out of 5 stars Body sensations, 29 Nov. 2012
This book is a rediscovery of a deeply instinctual act as well as a rediscovery of when, how and why birth has become medically managed. It empowers women to be the creator of their own experience. Making birth as pleasurable as it can be, without expectations. It is about channelling the energy and letting your body experience its sensations rather than wanting to achieve an orgasm. The book also has a practical section with plenty of suggestions for active labour. Only a wonderfully experienced child birth educator such as Sheila Kitzinger could have put so much content into a such concise book. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did ☺

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have in preparation to birth, 30 Oct. 2012
This review is from: Confident Birth (Paperback)
I like everything of this book! The `cute' size, the concise length, the smart chapters' division, and the inspiring content! It is a wonderful resource to understand and become familiar with the journey that giving birth is. I would highly recommend this book to every expectant mum as well as friends or family that may be present at birth (a chapter is dedicated to them) or indeed to doulas or any practitioner supporting pregnancy and birth. It is a very practical book. The most amazing gifts the author gives in this book are the 4 tools you can use to make birth the most comfortable and empowering experience you can have or witness. It is a must have book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Practical and 'yummy' book, perfect to have, and use, in the kitchen!, 16 Sept. 2012
This is a very practical book full of recipes and tips, from what to put in the shopping basket to what to eat on different occasions and different times of pregnancy or motherhood.
The very good thing is that while the book is focused on good nutrition, full of reminders for a healthy lifestyle while pregnant, breastfeeding and raising a family, it is aimed at having a positive approach to food and not `perfection'.
It also promotes the skill of asking for help, which is very useful to have as a new mother. Tips and tricks on how to do this are in the book!
It is divided in 5 chapters, which makes it very easy to consult on demand rather then reading it throughout. The only negative side of the 5 chapters division is that sometimes the information is a bit all over the place (e.g vitamins).
Overall it is a fantastic book to have in the kitchen and it makes it the perfect gift for a family.
