3.0 out of 5 stars It stinks but it's OK, 22 April 2014

It really, REALLY stinks of chemicals or whatever the hell it's made of. The smell is so powerful I had to leave it outside for a few days before I could use it. It's still overpowering if I leave the lid open too long. Apart from the smell, it's a nice little watch case! Sure, the plastic top is a bit lame but it serves a purpose. The padded cushions are good and the compartments are the right size for my various watches. The locking clasp doesn't work too well but then, a knife to the plastic would easily open it anyway.

I like it. It just stinks a bit!

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible Company...AVOID!, 22 April 2014
I purchased one of these watches from that popular auction website, where Watchgecko seem to do most of their trading. It was much cheaper there. The watch is ok for the price, it keeps good time as do all quartz watches from £10 to £10,000. Unfortunately the hands miss all the markers, making it look cheap and tacky. Unlike real diver's watches, the crown does not 'screw down'. In fact it pulls loose at the slightest provocation so it's best to wear the watch without long sleeves! The lume is absolute rubbish; if I wear the watch all day, allowing it to absorb several hours of bright sunlight, the lume only glows for 20 minutes before it becomes useless.

I also purchased another watch from these people. It had some sort of stain on the hand which made the watch look bad. It seemed odd considering how they would brag about their quality control. I pointed this out to them. I received the standard circular response and was promptly banned from making other purchases!

My advice; look elsewhere! MWC also have a bad reputation for their customer service but their military-style 'dive' watches are of higher quality than Watchgecko's efforts. Cooper 'submaster' watches are cheap but also better than these 'Zuludivers'. Save up a £100 and you can get an excellent Divex, Apeks or Tauchmeister...thus avoiding the disappointment of dealing with Watchgecko.

I wear it for work which keeps me indoors most of the day. That doesn't affect the solar cells though, the watch stays fully charged all day and all night!

The five alarms are useful. I use three of them regularly. As others keeps saying, they are too quiet. Luckily I work in a fairly quiet environment so I hear the alarms most of the time. If only Casio would hear us! The Timex equivalents have louder alarms and they vibrate too!

The auto-light feature is excellent. It rarely comes on when it's not supposed to and even when it does, it only stays on for a second or two (you can set the length of time yourself).

Power saving mode is also excellent. I set mine to go off after 10pm and start again next morning. Of course, it doesn't really go off completely. The screen goes blank until a light source shines on it again. Press the `G' button and it wakes up long enough to tell you the time before it nods off again. A very clever feature!

The World-time functions are not very useful to me but they're unobtrusive. Same with the Stopwatches and Countdown timer; they're very easy to use and don't get in the way of the watches everyday functions.

Not much to grumble about. The date is in the wrong (American) order of Month/Day instead of vice versa.
The `negative' display is hard to read in the shade but then, the Auto-light feature to remedies that. It's an ugly looking thing at first glance, but its utilitarian appearance grows on you...well it has on me anyway!

Btw, the Amazon picture is misleading. That blueish looking bit around the watch face is actually dark grey/black (it's the solar cells). The watch is all black - except for the writing.

Don't be put off by the apparent complexity of these watches. They're really intuitive to operate and in fact, most of the instructions you'll need are printed on the watch itself (`Adjust', `Mode', `Forward'...etc). There's a very lucid instruction booklet included.

I don't know why the price has jumped to £80. I paid £55 for mine on Amazon. Shop around, you might get a better deal :D

My advice; look at the other Submariner-style watches available on the market. Parnis and Alpha do some good, cheap ones and they're higher quality than Watchgecko's efforts. Gigandet do an excellent Submariner homage but it's a bit more expensive. Seiko and Orient make the best 'cheap' dive watches and they are much more reputable than Watchgecko. Honestly, it's worth saving up for a £120 Orient Mako if it means avoiding the disappointment of dealing with Watchgecko.

3.0 out of 5 stars Looks lovely...from a distance, 13 Sep 2013

It looks fantastic, really eye-catching. Don't look too close though; mine has a slightly wonky Cyclops date magnifier and if you look really closely you'll notice the hour markers are misaligned. You'll also see the second hand stumbling around the watch-face like a drunk, old man tumbling down some stairs! I know some people say it's the reputable Sea-Gull movement but Nautec have never confirmed this and I'm not going to take the back off just to check. Sea Gull movements are in my experience, much smoother than this.

Nevertheless, I've had this watch for several months now and it's been a very reliable time-keeper. It feels great on the wrist too, substantial but not too heavy. The bracelet is good, better than Orient's efforts on their uber-popular Mako, but it could be better for the price.

The bezel is OK but there's a lot of backward movement in it. The screw-in crown is a bit cr*p, it feels too loose and it's way too easy to cross-thread it. Unlike its Rolex GMT Master look-a-like, the Nautec GMT arm is not independently adjustable.

The 300m pressure/depth rating is un-testable for most people and therefore completely dubious but then most of us will never expose our watches to more than a few splashes of rain anyway.

It has its flaws but it's a reliable, `waterproof' automatic watch for less than £100. And it looks great...from over there.

1.0 out of 5 stars A great watch....if you're lucky!, 11 Sep 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It's true, the Invicta 8926 is an excellent homage to the Rolex Submariner. It's a very attractive, weighty chunk of ticking stainless steel. OK, it doesn't tick, it glides like an automatic watch is supposed to do. Flip it over and you can gaze through the glass back-piece at the inner workings of the watch. It's lovely! The attention to detail is far, far beyond what you could normally expect from an automatic watch in this price-range. They look great, classy even. It's quite an achievement for under £100

But oh boy, there are problems with this watch! The list is long! Just do a quick Google search and you'll find forums full of gripes and groans about bezels that won't move for love or money, movements that inexplicably die after six months, piss-poor lume that fades after a few minutes, Cyclops date magnifiers that are hopelessly misaligned (this is why I sent mine back)...etc. And then there's the customer service. Invicta has a reputation for treating their customers like annoyances to be ignored, a real problem if your watch dies after Amazon's brief returns-window closes.

Watch lovers are divided. Some are willing to overlook the flaws, some aren't. I sent mine back and purchased another brand. So have many, many others. You might want to think about that before buying! You might also want to look at some other, more reliable Submariner homages. Brands like Gigandet, Detomaso, Alpha and Tauchmeister do some good ones in the same sort of price range. Shop around and you might get a bargain. You might not get a see-through back panel but at least the watch will probably work as it's supposed to!

It's a lottery with the 8926. I wasn't lucky. Perhaps you will be. Maybe. Good luck!

4.0 out of 5 stars Sekonda's Best Budget Beater, 9 Aug 2013
I got mine on eBay for a fiver! I really didn't expect it to be this good! OK, it's not a Rolex Submariner but for the money, I really struggle to find anything to grumble about.

The best thing about this watch is the styling. The two-tone scheme (orange/black or yellow/black) looks great on the watch face and on the strap and ensures that it looks as good with casual clothes as it does with something a bit more formal. It's big too, at 46mm (including crown) it's about as big as the daddy-dive watches like the Barbos Seamaster although it obviously lacks such finesse. Nevertheless, for these prices you're not going to find a better looking 200m Dive watch.

Did I say Dive watch? OK, that's a bit of an exaggeration. There's no screw-down crown here. The lume is a bit rubbish and crucially there isn't any lume at all on the minute hand or on the 120 click, uni-directrional rotating bezel. It isn't a sports watch either, it's too heavy for that. It'll be fine for the pool/bath/beach...etc but you'd better swap it for a Divex or a Cressi if you want to check out the reefs!

The biggest fault I could find with this watch was that the second hand doesn't always match up with the markers on the watch face (completely normal with cheap watches). Oh, and the rotating bezel is a teeny bit out of line with the 12 o'clock position, but you have to look really hard to notice it.

It's not a sports watch, or a diver or even a desk-diver (sekonda isn't exclusive enough for that, i suppose), but it's a really nice, good-looking 'beater' (a watch that you don't mind getting beaten and battered at work or out on the town!) that'll keep good time and might even catch a few favorable glances. If you're after a decent-looking, inexpensive, practical time-piece you'd be mad not to consider buying one of these.

This is not the watch you're looking for! Go here for the non-automatic, leather strap Rotary GS03425/04 Divers Watch...

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid, reasonably-priced, lovely looking diver, 5 July 2013
It isn't perfect but considering the price, it's way above average!

The GS03425/04 is a kind of entry-level dive watch, that's to say it has most of the features of a standard dive watch; a good quality screw-down crown, lume, a robust, unidirectional rotating bezel (it won't accidentally turn when your shirt sleeve brushes against it). But it also has a leather strap so...

The lume is brilliant (literally) on the hands but not so bright on the hour markers or on the bezel pip. Hold the watch in front of a bulb for 30 seconds and the hands will glow all night.

Most diver-style watches come with a depth/pressure rating, usually written on the face. Rotary don't do that, they just write `Waterproof'. According to Rotary, this means the watch can be used for "swimming and shallow diving (in swimming pools, lakes, rivers and coastal waters), all water sports, showering and bathing." That's a bold claim for such a cheap watch (Most pro-dive watches cost above £100). The kinds of water pressures associated with water sports and showering will typically destroy a cheap dive watch. Are Rotary exaggerating? You can be the judge!

Keep it serviced every 3 years and Rotary will, allegedly, provide a lifetime guarantee which, is pretty good considering it's a quartz watch and is thus unlikely to need much repairing.

All in all, the Chronospeed GS03425/04 is a reasonably priced, lovely looking, solid-feeling fashion/dive watch. If you want to hit the reefs buy an Apeks, if you want a lovely day-to-day watch that doesn't cost the earth buy this!

If you're really interested in one I'd shop around, prices vary quite a bit. This is the cheapest new one I've seen but I know Argos sell them too. I got mine on eBay for £30 and it's immaculate (some have the luminous pip missing from the bezel!)

This review is from: JVL FABRIC LAUNDRY BAG - BLACK
As already mentioned by another reviewer, the stitching is, well let's be honest, it's cr*p. This isn't going to be a problem for people who intend to use this bag as a laundry basket. That's what I got it for, after my wicker basket fell to pieces. The bag sits in the corner of my room, slowly filling up (it's a big bag!), looking pretty cool with its jet black finish and white trim. It's only when you get close up that you begin to see how cheaply made it is. I wouldn't want to use it for its intended purpose, lugging it down the street to the launderette, worrying when the stitching's going to fail.

Delivery was quick and it was appropriately packaged.

In short, it's a nice little laundry 'basket' but a bit of a cra**y laundry bag! Oh, and there's a warning on the care label of the bag which states 'some dye transfer may occur when product becomes wet.' So be careful where you put your Whites after a sweaty workout! It's probably wise to wash the laundry bag a few times before you use it. Perhaps you should buy another laundry bag to put it in while you wait for a suitable washing day... :D
