2.0 out of 5 stars Misleading, 4 Jan. 2015
This review is from: Lucy [DVD] [2014] (DVD)
This story has been written by someone that doesn't know much about self realisation, or spirituality, or both. The film gets worse by the minute, a shame since Scarlett and Morgan play so well and the theme is worth exploring. What a waste!

If Lucy can snap her fingers to stop a whole group of people, she should be able to do it throughout the movie then and avoid many deaths.

And the end of the movie is as simplistic and biased as if Luc Besson had read about spirituality from a comic book.

If the idea of passing on a legacy is important, then there are other ways to do it. I can't say much if you haven't watch it yet.
Not worth watching though, quite the contrary, I would avoid this to be spared from misinformation ans misleading concepts of transcendence.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than expected, 4 Jan. 2015
This review is from: Dracula Untold [DVD] [2014] (DVD)
Amazing!
This isn't a horror movie. I was expecting something completely different, amateur, a "why not" movie... and waw it was way much more interesting than imagined. Good casting and realisation, worth watching.

How to help without messing with freewill. Rich characters and a majestic realisation make this movie a timeless masterpiece.

Impeccable journey about overcoming fear and succeeding through love. I enjoyed father and son Smith working together and loved the organic technology designed. Fully recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Clever Blockbuster, 4 Jan. 2015

Flawless, intense, well done!

A very interesting explanation about why Cage (an appropriate name for this character) gets trapped in a time loop, and how this is connected with the rest of the storyline.

Groundhog Day is way deeper than this action-based version. This is still a clever, modern and accessible presentation about reincarnation and self realisation.

Amazing casting and performance! Cruise and Blunt together Are imho just amazing! Doug Liman is an expert in telling the actors how to react and interact in their conversations, plus the pace and edition are flawless.

The music is the only downside, effective but really basic and composed in a predictable fashion. The song at the end is just wrong, it doesn't fit with the spirit of the film in any way. The song by itself can be amusing but its arrangements are of the mark. Maybe next time Willy Moon

I'd like to finish with a positive note, the movie is original and is particularly well done. Congratulations to Doug Liman and all the crew.

Definitely, worth, watching!

Oblivion [DVD] [2013]

5.0 out of 5 stars Elegant, unexpected, 4 Jan. 2015

Stylish scenes, clever script, unexpected twists, amazing casting, elegant pace, outstanding production, cool gadgets and very interesting non verbal messages throughout the film make this a masterpiece. On top of that, Joseph Kosinski shows a remarkable work as writer and director, imagine, since this is his second movie ever! Brilliant!
Unlike Tron Legacy (his first work on big screen) that barely supplies depth and contrast, Oblivion delivers a wealth of ideas and their successful realisation.

Downsides:
Gonzalez and Trapanese soundtrack sound great, and yet, there's so much Nolan's Batman on Tech49, and Matrix, and... so much that I get distracted, come on guys an aditional grain of creativity wouldn't hurt anybody.
Pieces and parts taken from other movies are sometimes too obvious to be considered inspired from them.
The 5 minute introduction isn't really necessary since Jack will explain all to Julia again during the movie. Yes it's a Hollywood movie but we don't live in Idiocracy (yet)... and maybe the intro wasn't even Kosinski's idea.

Kosinski says there could be a prequel now... This movie could give birth for both prequel and sequels, it's beauty and storyline call for more Tets and love stories to unfold...

Definitely worth watching, buying and contributing to Kosinski's career.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great for kids, 27 Dec. 2012
First 25 minutes in Bilbo's home, the dwarfs are presented in an ever repeating feast.
Trolls voices are no longer tuff
Kings joke before dying
Goblins look like moppets
Obvious and impossible action sequences
Uninspiring dialogues
The attention of the viewer caught by farts and burps... were we supposed to laugh?
The worst : failed culminations in almost every sequence

One succesful thing throughout the entire film is Gandalf. With Excellent performance, make-up, all around Gandalf is amazing and inspiring. Five stars to Gandalf.
Hugo Weaving's and Kate Blanchet did a nice job alone. Elrond and Galadriel's costumes and makeup are also refined and the character traits remain the same as in their previous participations.
Another great sequence is when Bilbo meets Gollum. Well acted, interesting dialogues, like you're watching another movie all of a sudden.
But all this counts too few to add more than two stars to this realisation.

Not the same team that worked for the L.O.R., we see an un-believable group of artificial dwarfs and goblins. I've never remarked how make-up could be a key element in a movie to be drawn into the story. The superficiality of the make up made me remember over and over that this is an ordinary production and most of all, just a movie.

Howard Shore couldn't keep the same intensity successfully held for L.O.R. Yes, the new theme is related... and yet not as effective. Even the already known great soundtrack doesn't accompany the sequences. There is no effective conclusion on critical moments of victory or grief. The mixing and mastering have lost the unique touch of fantasy and glory. Not only me but people around me didn't feel deeply moved at any moment, not like in many breathtaking scores of L.O.R. (the music in Moria, Rohan, Cirill river entry to Gondor, Lorothien, countless more sequences)

Sunrises and sunsets are saturated to the point of a cartoon-like superficiality. Maybe the 3D treatment didn't help in this regard, in that case I'll watch it again and edit the review in the future.

The same actors that worked on L.O.R. look disconnected from the story, demotivated, there's no intensity.

In my opinion tt is all a bit sad. Even if Peter Jackson's version of LOR never existed, even though we know that The hobbit is rather a kid's tale compares to L.O.R., this work just failed to lead us to a fantastic film for all ages. I don't recommend it and hope that the sequel in 2013 and 2014 have a better outcome, a movie worth remembering.

I simply didn't get the Woody Allen touch, nor the interest in the story. Even though the casting is astonishing, the screenplay and realisation lacks depth and resolution. Not recommended

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicate and rich story, 27 Dec. 2012

One violin, many stories, all intense, beautiful and calamitous.
These stories collide in one great auction, like facets of a crystal, teasing human greed and passion in a very exciting and artistic fashion.

The music, the casting, the stories... Wow! Extraordinary. A must see!
