Great Hatred, Little Room: Making Peace in Northern Ireland

2.0 out of 5 stars Unenlightening and dull, 3 April 2009
I'm prompted to write this review having been staggered at the other reviews. I was so disappointed reading this book. Powell spent years working closely with all the major figures in Irish politics yet we learn nothing of them from his book. All the interesting parts of the book were published in the Guardian. My recommendation, don't bother.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unreadable, 22 Jan 2009
I was so disappointed by this book. For much of the time the primary character is `off his face'; while `being of your face' can be a very intense experience it is usually pretty dull to around and that is certainly how I felt about this book. One to avoid.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great read, 6 Oct 2008
This review is from: The Wrong Man (Paperback)
This is a great read. One of the elements I enjoyed most was the exploration of relationships under pressure. Pressures caused by living in Belfast and additionally of being involved in the republican struggle. All the characters are very believable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, 1 Sep 2008
This review is from: Molly Fox's Birthday (Paperback)
A pleasure. Engaging, thought provoking, fascinating. Madden explores the complexity of life. Her imagery is so powerful that I feel I've spent time in Molly's house. I enjoyed 'Mollie Fox's Birthday' so much that I've just bought several of her other books.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful read, 1 Sep 2008
This one of my all time favourite books. It is the first book by Gerry Adams that I read; I picked it up at the library and got hooked. He's an amazing story teller, conveying a sense of respect and caring for working class people that it is rare in much of our current culture. It is funny, sad and enchanting.
