Felt a bit like 'going through the motions': some nice logistics (as usual) but rather a routine and languid plot development - neat low-key ending, though).

Feels insubstantial and a little flimsy, but it does the job perfectly adequately and is very cheap. Tremendous value - and saves waste of a USB port (also, my XP computer didn't want to boot normally with a USB mouse plugged in before startup and this was therefore a perfect solution).

This review is from: Dyson Zorb (Kitchen & Home)
Very easy to use: the odour was not offensive and the overall effect was to reduce doggy smells in the carpets. It didn't remove deep wine stains in a rug, but did reduce them. Pretty effective if your carpets are not badly stained.

This review is from: Future Perfect (Paperback)
Not so much a 'whodunnit' or 'to whom' (you'll probably work that out before the end, but that's not crucial) but a 'Whydunnit? A well-plotted and fast-moving odyssey set in the world of science fiction/fantasy publishing with undercurrents of science fiction, political thriller and mystery genres all very intelligently interwoven. The authors toss in some very intriguing and thought-provoking strands of genuine scientific ideas to add gravitas to what is an entertaining and at times rather funny tale with occasional nods to science fiction classics. Well worth reading.

Cheap but solid and effective: I've also used it for American appliances with a two flat-pin plug. Excellent service from supplier.

I happily recommend this.

3.0 out of 5 stars The (In)complete works of Aristotle, 14 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Not bad as far as it goes: a good selection of the known writings with some interesting additional biographical/analytical extracts from more recent commentators. However, it is a misnomer to call it the 'complete works' when it doesn't contain Aristotle's large 'handbook' on midwifery which was THE authoritative work for nigh on one thousand years after his death!

The acid test is the condition of the dog after being on a regular diet of Wellbeloved products. Our dogs are in beautiful condition and it is probably not just down to good exercise and not being allowed to over-eat.

5.0 out of 5 stars 'Ethics' are social and historical, 29 Mar. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
More than just a social history of 'ethical concepts', this is a strong argument for the historically-rooted nature of ethical concepts in forms of life without falling into the infinite regress of a Wittgensteinian notion of something like 'language games'. MacIntyre presents a cogent argument for the philosophical analysis of 'ethics' as an active intervention in ethical forms of life.

Not always easy reading, but well worth the effort.

5.0 out of 5 stars Canon Pixma MP560, 18 Sept. 2010
Another superb product from Canon (we had an earlier MFP which also was terrific). The software installation and detection of the home network were both very slick: cartridge installation and head alignment also very well managed and simple and the overall performance is very, very good.

The only slight niggle is that it takes a long time to produce the first page of output.

Afterglow of Creation: Decoding the message from the beginning of time
Afterglow of Creation: Decoding the message from the beginning of time
by Marcus Chown

4.0 out of 5 stars Chown vs Smoot, 21 April 2010
An interesting alternative history of the exploration of the cosmic background radiation and its implications for the theory of 'the Big Bang' origin of our observable universe.

Chown, through the presentation of a narrative based upon interviews with other key members of the COsmic Background Explorer team and a version of the history of 20th century cosmology, downgrades the role played by George Smoot (who shared a Nobel Prize for his and his team's role in developing the COBE experiment) and presents a panoply of alternative 'stars' of the story - only one of whom shared the Nobel Prize with Smoot.

Chown's explanations of the physical concepts are very clear and the story is quite gripping - and there's a useful update to the COBE findings in the new edition: a teasing coverage of the problems of 'dark matter' and 'dark energy' which may tempt the reader to want to go further.

A very good read!
