3.0 out of 5 stars As I feared..., 31 July 2013

...the cadenza was too fast. I don't doubt Ms. Lisitsa's technical skill at all, but I do find her musical interpretation questionable here. I don't have a problem with the rest of the concerto being played a little briskly, but the cadenza just felt too rushed; it loses the atmosphere and I'm quite sure means she made far more mistakes than if she'd played just a touch slower.

4.0 out of 5 stars Few do it better, 31 July 2013

Great album. Sound quality varies due to age of the recordings, but some have been greatly enhanced and together with the amount of music you get for the price and Rachmaninoff's own one-in-a-million playing skills, this is an album well worth having.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marvellous, 31 July 2013

Horowitz may have been aged during both these performances, but one would hardly notice; those saying he made mistakes must have good ears, because I noticed very few and they hardly matter anyway.

I would usually be somewhat wary of albums like this with technological enhancement of the sound, fearing it would take credit away from the performers themselves, but frankly I find the music just so good there's nothing to complain about.

4.0 out of 5 stars RICHTER, 2 Jun. 2013

Expectedly fabulous performance by Richter; however, I would definitely say his performance of Hammerklavier in Prague the same year was better, as he made fewer audible mistakes during the fugue there and plays with much greater power in places, too.
