better than it had any right to be., 16 April 2014
As a life long fan (mine not his) of Jack Vance I shied away from this book for many reasons. Finally deciding that impersonation is the sincerest form of flattery and thus assured of the contributors intentions I found that each and every one of these were swept away within the first few pages like transient blemishes on a dying sun to reveal a glimpse of its former radiance. Sure there are some missteps along the way but the greatest compliment I can give is that I can imagine some of the stories as being penned by the Master himself and for those that fall shy of this exalted standard then I would imagine that he enjoyed reading them as much as I.
