5.0 out of 5 stars Really helpful to gain comprehension, 12 Jun. 2016

* Physical

The book i have has 422 pages of text, is printed on a fair size of font for those who require specs, and the paper is of reasonable quality too.

* Target audience, A level / H.N.D, Undergraduate,Graduate, Post Graduate?

This book is accessible when considering its quality of writing, but (i.m.h.o) this is better introductory read by second year mathematics students and above.

* What's the best topics then?

With some books it is a historical journey with what they have done added. This book gives a fair explanation of the maths and his life.The more accessible bits of the Riemann contribution to mathematical knowledge is very well explained. The critical theory of arithmetic that all numbers greater than one are a compound of prime numbers is very well explored too. Zeta function, the one of the many function forms, the prime number generating function and its simpler proofs is as well explained as i have seen in other small number of samples. The way the calculation of the number of primes up to any integer is engaging to read. The many forms of the Zeta function, sums and products equivalence, 'golden key' the supporting fundamental math in this topic is really nicely completed. The writer knows his limits as this is a popular science, math book. And this needs to be limited to not overwhelm the general reader. But the math student in particular will find this book supportive of their topics and when, importantly, you access videos from a very well known video sharing website, (you know the one) you may find this knowledge comprehension greatly accelerated. By using both this book and the videos at whichever level of academic difficulty you're at the moment, you may have a clearer time on this introductory level of the important math topic. Its encouraging me to have another look at further books too.

* Summary

With reading this book, ands watching and rewatching the videos on the very well known website that cover these same areas, you may find this a real interest and enjoyable way to gather knowledge in this area. This limited math level dexterity is fair, comprehensible, and really clearly written. You need the online videos, (and a reasonable bb connection), and (this) book together then you're more likely to make progress. (i.m.h.o)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great hardware and price., 6 Jun. 2016

This 64Gb thumb drive is small physically, but it fits into standard USB 2.0 connections very easily. It's shaped into a gentle shape of your thumb. If you need to know, when you look into the port on your computer, the USB 2.0 ports have a white colour to make the user aware of the difference when, compared with blue for later USB 3.0 ports

* Performance

Its of a capacity that would encourage the much faster USB 3.0 connectivity to be more attractive. The USB 3.0 is ten times faster uploading and downloading files than the earlier USB 2.0 ports. So if you're using this capacity of flash drives on a regular basis, and have USB 3.0 hardware, and throwing around very big file sizes on your system, i would consider upgrading to USB 3.0 thumb drives.

* Main usage

I have bought this thumb drive to serve as a 'Recovery Drive' for Windows 10. The current requirements to create a recovery drive is it's at least USB 2.0, and have around 32Gb free capacity. So i overestimated the capacity requirement - just in case - and bought this 64Gb. The drive is made to have this 64GB drive but creating this recovery drive on it permanently reduced its capacity to 32GB. This is to make it bootable as required. When i did the first recovery drive for Windows 8.0, i thought the copy of the whole of drive C: would be placed on a thumb drive, so i bought a 128Gb pen drive. This was actually permanently reduced to 32 Gig too, so even when i formatted this USB 2.0 drive, the 128 Gig was from then on still permanently reduced to 32 Gig!

* Summary

This hardware has a fantastically high capacity, and almost enough to be throw away cost. If you have USB 3.0, and can use this size regularly, this makes sense to use this standard. But if you're willing to wait for files to upload and download, you can save yourself the cost and use these USB 2.0 thumb drives. My main point is it's a lot cheaper to buy through amazon than buying through supermarkets as when you compare cost to capacity it's amazon that is attractive!

How to Prove It: A Structured Approach
How to Prove It: A Structured Approach

5.0 out of 5 stars Really helpful to get you comprehending formal math in a enjoyable way, 30 May 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
* Physical

This book has 384 pages printed in B&W printed on good quality paper.

* Target audience, A-level / H.N.D. Undergraduate / Graduate / Postgraduate?

In my case this book would be helpful to those studying (some) H.N.D and through to selective undergraduate computer science and mathematics in whatever form you need help with. The major bits i feel could help are the logic parts to extend your grasp of these theoretical topics and concepts.

* What's the best bits then?

To be honest, i have previously little grasp of proofs except in niche topics as required for a course not wholly based on this topic. Say studying 'Mathematical Induction'. If you consider this describes your experiences then i feel this book is to be a great help. This book creates a better grasp on proofs NOT jumping feet first into the MUCH deeper parts. The bits i felt the most benefit from is the 'Sentential Logic', 'Quantificational Logic' and 'Proofs', 'Relationships'. The later parts of 'Functions' i have already covered elsewhere in more depth in other works and courses.

The parts i engaged with and covered for the first time in my experience being the mathematical symbols for connectives '^' , 'v' '¨', '<->', '->', '<-', member of sets, not member of sets and quantifiers and few others. The depth in which it is expressed i felt carried REALLY well and engaged my thoughts and pushed me to grasp stuff i had seen in other manners but not in formal set notation before. These topics are to help in other areas and ricochet into other algebraic courses you may reacquaint yourself with.

The depth i feel has been curtailed to make a foot - in- the - door and not to cover every proof that's possible in mathematical terms. There are many questions and answers to help clarify issues if you're confused with too.

* Summary

The author knows how to put an book together to help the student new to some of these areas in a way that's really helpful and enjoyable to encourage the study of this topic further down the line. I really enjoyed this book and found it useful to tidy up a few areas i could not make progress with. The mathematical explanations of qualifiers, 'and', 'or', 'not' symbolic notation is a nice touch and i wish other writers would explain these before going into depth.

Olympus TP-8 Telephone Pick Up Microphone
Olympus TP-8 Telephone Pick Up Microphone
Price: £12.90

5.0 out of 5 stars quality 'phone call voice recordings, 29 May 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
* Physical

This microphone allows clearer recordings through telephones to be made. This is when a microphone connected to a digital voice recorder that gives power to the mic such as Olympus own brands for example. This TP-8 is a otherwise identical to the previous TP-7 Microphone. This microphone allows good quality telephony recordings to be made with it. This microphone sits in your ear and when you turn the device on, you can talk to the other caller and both your voice and the other caller voice can be clearly heard. It works both with landlines and mobiles no problems.

* Tips

This microphone has a 3.5 mm jack on a meter long cable designed to be inserted into the 'MIC' port on your recorder and the microphone end in your ear. I would like to add if you can, please choose between 'voice' and 'music', and go for 'voice'. This means you can alter the quality of your voice telephone recordings .Also consider the 'Menu' selection of your digital recorder and choose its 'Rec Mode.' This means you experiment and select one that has enough recording quality for your needs. I recommend you try them out in turn and select one that's right for you, but (i.m.h.o) 'HQ' (Hi Quality) is great for this type of recording. And Microphone sense 'Mic Sense' to 'Dic' (dictaphone) can help too.

Just a thought, if you have not used your digital recorder for a while, and its battery has run down and it seems dead even after fitting a new battery, try connecting the recorder to a USB port on your computer and it may come back to life again. This repair worked for me!

* Summary

This microphone works well, gives user variable quality to recordings; the bigger the files, the better the recording quality. The price of this is great and is cheaper than the TP-7 it replaces.

5.0 out of 5 stars This math topic used to give me the willies, is more approachable in this book., 24 April 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
* Physical

The book is printed on b&w quality paper, and a good size of font.

* Target audience; A-level, H.N.D. undergraduate, postgraduate?

This book is pitched at around A-level, H.N.D.(2). or perhaps first year degree?

* What is the best about this book?

The book is pitched at a wide - level, with enough information to illuminate the introductory bits of this topic. It covering basic logic, AND, OR and NOT in conditional 'if' true or false forms often in words, Mathematical induction, math sets of numbers ( integers, reals , quotients,real and rational numbers, prime numbers, and also complex numbers in a helpful way.The great thing is it assumes little as required prerequisites, it describes enough to help, and not enough to leave you hanging lost. There is also answers and help file supplied at the back of this volume.

* Summary

This is a lovely introductory book, a good starting point in truths and proofs. The price is great too. Its given me confidence to try a deeper book in the same topic area. What's better than this in a math book?

Brief History of Infinity: The Quest to Think the Unthinkable
Brief History of Infinity: The Quest to Think the Unthinkable
by Brian Clegg
Edition: Paperback
Price: £8.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Brief, most historical explorations in Infinity for A - level and first year degree math studies., 1 April 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
* Physical

This book is well bound for a paperback in standard quality paper. It's mostly text with a few graphs to illustrate a point here and there.

* Target audience, A - level / H.N.D, Undergraduate, Graduate, Postgraduate?

This book (i.m.h.o) is designed for A-Level, or first year degree students that need a bit of background fleshing - out of some fundamental terms in some supporting math topics. The author makes it very easy to get on with and reading this book is a gentle slope in difficulties and in some related and associated topics. This book (i.m.h.o) did not 'get going' until the middle and later chapters, as it described the backgrounds of the math characters in mostly historical descriptions up to this general point. After progressing, more was made of the features of infinity which is why i bought this book and it attracted me to this volume. There is nothing here in this book i didn't know or have read about already from other sources. But this is not to say the book is not beneficial to other readers with less studies under their belts and want to learn about these topics in mostly historical terms.

* Summary

If you're new to math and enjoy recreational historical explorations of mathematical history, this is a book to consider but don't expect to delve deeply and broadly within this area of mathematical studies.

4.0 out of 5 stars The kneeler is great too for planting, 14 Mar. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
* Physical

This seat is both a kneeler on, and as a seat. Its collapsible too.

* Advice

To make this seat as stable as possible, my dad recommends that you mount it as if riding a motorcycle, legs either side and not side saddle. This makes it very stable. The kneeler is great too for planting.It helps my dad to still do gardening, which is great for his well - being.

* Summary

Its well made, nice price, and when you follow the tip above, its stable and great. In fact i have seen this same item being sold through a national news paper for double the price its being sold here.

Logitech Keyboard K120 for Business - UK layout
Logitech Keyboard K120 for Business - UK layout

4.0 out of 5 stars Great quality at a great price!, 10 Feb. 2016
* Physical

Generally, keyboards ride and fall by how they feel when using them. This is a Logitech K120, and is a straightforward designed unit that is powered by U.S.B connectivity. It's lightweight, but not lacking in physical and sight high build quality.The keys are very responsive, bouncing back with a lovely feel when typing.

* Design

The trend is going towards battery powered wireless keyboards, and U.S.B keyboards are in decline. In fact i bought this one i am working with as it was the last U.S.B. keyboard in the whole super store, so had it at a knockdown price. These newer wireless keyboards can push over £120. Which i think is pointless levels of build quality whatever they may build into them. So i have bought another (different) Logitech keyboard from Amazon just in case (U.S.B) keyboards become harder to obtain. Through trial and error, the better keyboards have laser etched symbols on its keys. Not sure if this keyboard has this feature.

* Failure rates

These keyboards claim great longevity, such as 10's of millions of key presses guaranteed. But i have three keyboards stored away all the keys working physically. It's not that they failed with faulty keys, but the characters wear off and it becomes harder to type as you cannot see some of the letters. It's noticeable that the keys which suffer this rubbing - off are the most common letters in the english language, such as 'a' and 'e'. So take this 'failure' with a pinch of salt. The keyboards keys (i.m.h.o) last around three years before some of these letters and characters being worn away beyond legibility. It could be i do more typing than others? My brother has his keyboard for 4 + years and his keyboard is fine.

* Summary

This keyboard is nice quality, with good springy keys and high quality build. But the main failure is not physical failings but the characters rubbing off the keys. If you're using a system that needs a U.S.B. keyboard, i would buy one and keep it spare in case relentless technology leaves you stuck.

4.0 out of 5 stars enjoyable afternoon movie, 7 Feb. 2016
This review is from: Dad's Army [DVD] [2016] (DVD)
In this film's favour, this movie has a genuinely new story, and not just a cut - and - paste from the original series. And yet this cast generated a atmospheric evocation of the original series that allowed the new players to not seem out of place. The story proved to be well - balanced and well paced too. The afternoon cinema showing i attended was 4/5 full, and the audience laughed more than a few times too. To do this new story with the same characters with new actors is no mean balancing feat. The film used some computer special effects which is a nice story support.

N.B. The vicar and one of the military staff are original cast members from the original series.

The Queen [DVD] [2006]
The Queen [DVD] [2006]
Dvd ~ Helen Mirren
Offered by best_value_entertainment
Price: £2.23

5.0 out of 5 stars What a week..., 30 Jan. 2016
This review is from: The Queen [DVD] [2006] (DVD)
* Plot

This is a well - balanced, even handed portrayal of the time when British monarchy almost collapsed under a emotional turmoil in the wake of the death of mother of the future king of England in a week. I thought this story would be too supportive of the royals and that was why i did not see it in the pictures. This film is so fair to all parties. The lead in Helen Mirren, is superb. Even Helens walk of the queen is in character! As are all the supporting cast. This is beautifully edited too. There is emotional support and also the political ramifications and dimensions are mixed to still stay addictive and alluring to the way the news is sold.

* Personal Reflection

Whether it's my recollection of the times makes it more attractive i am yet to figure out. I admit i was upset at the time when i heard the death of Diana. But the way in which the major portions of the world became so upset over someone they had probably never met in public is a feature of the global village. It's a reflection on a time when the concentrated, over - emotional reaction to Diana's death by the world seems a different time and place never to occur again.

* Technology

This DVD disk is a dual - layer, single sided DVD. I play this DVD on a blu-ray player and the images and sound are high quality and well - rendered. The initial menu is simple to use but expect little in technology settings to change. There is however, a commentary available to share insight into the films issues and the movie background.
